Thanks Ohsewsimple, and yes I have that book as well - in fact I have far too many sewing books!!!!! I am prepared to try anything to start with, and for starters I shall be using a much narrower seam allowance than the old 5/8" as that is far too bulky in knits. As I have two overlockers, I will leave the one that converts to coverstitch ready for this to be used for coverstitching, as it took quite a while to tinker with all the settings and to get a suitable and satisfactory finish, and the other one can be used for the seams and any other overlocking. In fact I have dug out of my stash some fabric that I picked up in Peter Jones Sloane Square (John Lewis) way back in 1980 - it was a remnant and has a huge flaw in it, but bearing in mind the time frame now I have nothing to lose using this as a toile and see how I go, if anything I can always wear this around the home. In fact I have spent some time searching through my patterns and dug out all the ones designed for knits, and whilst in theory they are too small for me, I can at least do an FBA etc. on these, and courtesy of my lovely Osteopath I have an abundance of cardboard tubes from the examination couch paper which I keep my ironed out ready patterns on, and again courtesy of Lakeland rather long and large delivery boxes and ideal place to store these tubes of patterns.
