Title: The Truth will out
Post by: realale on November 18, 2021, 16:25:34 PM
Darksiders, avert your gaze. Move along, there's nothing to see here  :embarrassed:

The truth will out. I am a closet patchwork and quilter but I've stayed below the radar because I learnt in the school of 'blunder-around-till-it-works'. I then graduated to the 'That's-near-enough' academy before getting my degree in 'That'll-do'. Hence my embarrassment before all the precise greatness on here.

Anyway, my Christmas project this year was to make my grandchildren cuddle quilts to use whilst watching tv, snuggle under when on 'puter etc during advent. I first started with the idea of a quillo but the flipping thing kept evolving and changing until I ended up with this:
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
There are 12 Christmas embroideries and then some mismatched strips and whatnots. Do not look closely!!! My excuse is that it will be used for perhaps three weeks in every year so it's not worth getting het up about. Near enough is good enough in my book!!c :P

I just need to do the label to go on it but otherwise it is finished. I did think I would top stitch all around the edge. Mistake. Big Mistake. It gave the edges a hard feel where everything else is is cuddly and soft. It took forever to unpick  :headbang:
I backed it with a Christmas fleece from B&M.
So this is grandson's finished.
I now have to finish granddaughter's.
I may be gone some time.....

OOoooohhh! What a lovely Quilt and I do believe I have the middle embroidery in my files!

How long did it take to stitch out ??

That is a lovely make @realale  and dont worry about any imperfections only YOU will see ..

The magic of quilts or Quiltrickery as its called is that the whole overwhelms whomever gazes upon its quilty wonderfulness and any so called imperfections or rather design features are lost from view.

@Iminei the santa across the night sky took AGES to stitch out. I think it was 126 minutes plus of course thread changes so it seemed to take forever.
However, I really like it and have used it again in granddaughter's quilt.

It looks gorgeous @realale . The grandchildren will love them. There is nothing imperfect about them at all- just perfect actually for cosy Christmas movies!

It is lovely and you need never be hesitant about showing your makes on here.
@Iminei isn't quite right....there are people who delight in finding flaws and pointing them out ( put me off showing my creations for years ) as I'm sure there are people who love to point out fitting issues with clothes. However.....not on our darkside and as for quilt police......@Acorn has them under lock, key and brambles  :thumb:

Hey - lock the door and give her a biscuit!  She's ours now.

That is lovely - and really, as others have said, flaws will be mostly, if not entirely, visible only to you.

@Lowena  @Iminei  I hear the odd grumble from the quilt police, but I think they must be trying to make something out of the old polytunnel cover that got thrown into the field shelter with them.

And don't point out any flaws you think you see to your grandchildren!

I think it's pretty nice and my personal favorite is the reindeer with lights.  :perfect10:

That's a lovely quilt :loveit:

Absolute perfection - if it is ever achieved by anyone other than God - leaves me with a feeling of it's too precious to be touched and that really isn't what quilts are about.  They are about warmth and security.

Lovely.  :perfect10:
Made with love by grandma/nana, it doesn't matter what anyone thinks, your grandchildren are all that matter and they will love them.
Welcome to the dark side by the way. :thumb:

It looks lovely and quite cuddly. We are, of course all our own harshest critics.  That is not to say the work is perfect, but instead, to try & learn to improve upon what you weren't happy with.

If you aren't sure how to make it better, ask. Folks here (who are far more expert than I) will help you.

The second quilt is now finished!! Yay!!
It's another quick and slap dash one, no precision used but the quilt police are safely under lock and key (thanks @Acorn   :D) so who cares?
I went through a crisis earlier in the week when I didn't think the fabrics were going to work. I hadn't got enough of one fabric so had to drive an hour to see if I could get some more - I couldn't.  :(  Out of the racks and rows of red Christmas fabric I couldn't find one that blended  :o They were either too orange or too something else. I got the nearest and although not ideal it works ok.
I sewed all day Friday and finally finished it yesterday, now I just have the labels to embroider and they are done.
I'm taking them over to the grandkids on Monday so that they can be used for the run up to Christmas rather than waiting for Christmas day when they would be getting out of date!!  0_0
After two months of doing something on these quilts virtually everyday (those embroideries took forever!!) now what shall I do? (rhetorical question - I have a list as long as my arm!! ). So glad the pressure is off though.  :P
