I haven't sewn for nearly two weeks so today I'm going to just try to do 15-20 minutes so I can get back into it.  I have a top that I made which only needs the hems and the neck attached to the top.  I can probably finish it in two short days.

That's pretty cool @Bill

Kudos to whoever gave it to you.

For most of the last 20+ years I put mats on my kitchen counter.  The one in Phoenix was long enough I could up to four of the large Olfa mats but when I moved last year I switched the mats to my rather large dining room table.  And the same thing at my new house now.  The funny thing is I always thought the counters were great but the lower table seems to be easier on my arms and hands so I'm pretty happy with it.  I can leave it out for multiple days since we typically eat at the counter rather than the table ... except when we have guests.

I know I did the floor thing in high school and early 20s but there is no way I would want to do that these days.

Patterns Discussion / Re: Vogue Spring 2023 patterns
« on: March 20, 2023, 01:19:51 AM »
When I did the last move I got rid of nearly all of my Vogue patterns.  Many I had for a long time but the truth is I haven't made a Vogue pattern in many years.  The ones I kept I may make.  I find the quality of the patterns pretty bad overall though.  And I hate 5/8" seam allowances so I tend to avoid patterns with them.  As long as Style Arc keeps making a few things I like that will continue to be my major pattern company.

I have probably said this before but I get the feeling they will not do the Designer patterns once their current contracts are up.  And those were virtually the only ones I ever bought.

My 2-4pm is way later than yours ... I will cut something out today.  Not sure what.  Then we'll see what happens after that.

That's so gorgeous @Bjay

I'm thinking of cutting some pants out today as well as working on some of my WIPs.  We'll see how it goes.  It's not quite 9am here so I have some time to think about it.

No sewing but I have finished organizing my fabric into bins.  I was originally going to do it by color but as a person who primarily buys prints I realized that wasn't going to work.  So instead I've organized by fabric content: knits (which are primarily rayon/lycra or cotton/lycra plus a couple of sweater knits), rayon & silk, garment cotton, linen (including the linen/cotton and linen/rayon blends) and wool.  The bins are on a metro rack in the corner of my sewing room. All of my quilting cotton  is in bins which are stuffed into the closet.  I also kept all the PFD fabrics together (on the top shelf of the metro rack) regardless of content but once they are dyed they will get moved into the appropriate content bin.

I'm glad I decided on this method of organization as I can already see it will work better when matching fabric to pattern since I primarily care about content. Instead of having to go through nearly all of my bins when looking for fabric I can limit it to only a few.  As it turns out 1/3 of my fabric is knits and I was surprised that I had a lot more cotton than I expected.  I would prefer more linen so that is probably were the majority of future purchases will go.

Tomorrow I will be organizing my cabinets with all of the sewing supplies.  Hopefully I'll be able to sew next week.

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Re: For Sale - HUSBAND

I guess I'm lucky in that Mr M is a bit OCD (that's not the actual word but the one we usually use is a bit rude) and does clean, cooks, handles his own laundry because he's particular, etc.  In fact he's better at it than me and tells me that he often "cleans up" after me to which I'm oblivious.  When I say "cleans up" I don't just mean it literally but also straightening things, turning stuff off, etc.  He's the type of person that can't stand for things to be unfinished while I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum and tend towards procrastination.

I'm afraid you're stuck with him @Diane because there is probably a surplus.

I assume he has his good points in any case!

@Renegade Sewist   Yep, it's the final move. To be honest I never thought I'd leave Arizona (I still love the place about 6-7 months out of the year) but the summers just kept getting hotter and longer.  It got to the point where I didn't even want to leave my house in Jul-Aug.

No sewing but I washed seven fabric bins so I can put fabric into them tomorrow.  I also got all of my patterns organized and put onto the bookshelf. It's something.

Once I get my new sewing room organized (fabric is still in boxes) I'll have a go at this.  I need clothes for the much colder weather here.

@Renegade Sewist ... I've also collected a few winter coat patterns over the years with little need for them when I lived in Arizona.  However, in retrospect it was a good choice because in Nevada I'll need a few.  You never know ...

I still have my Viking #1 which will probably die soon (and isn't repairable due to age and lack of boards available). I used maybe a dozen different stitches on it.  I'm pretty sad about this as I love this elegant comfortable machine. I'm not happy with the cheap kludgy replacement I bought a few months ago .. the Juki HZL-F300.  The ad was misleading and I thought I was going to get some stitches I used on the Viking but they were only on the F400 and F600 models.

I'll be replacing the Juki once I move to Nevada.  I'm not sure what I'm going to get.  I would have thought another Viking but I've done a bit of research and they seem to have gone downhill quality-wise so at the moment I'm considering a Baby Lock.  I also have a Janome Gem Gold that I bought to take to classes but have yet to actually use it or even take a class (mainly because of all the moves/covid nonsense over the last three years).

Outside of that I have a very old Baby Lock serger that I rarely use even though it works fine.  And the Janome Coverstitch 1000CPX which I do like and am happy to have much better looking hems on my knits.

Overall I don't need 100s of stitches but I do need the subset of the ones I regularly use.
