I agree with UR - the ones in the second photo are lovely - especially the multi-coloured one - I'm envious.  <3

Oh Ruby - you're not having a very good time at the moment, are you? I'm sorry to hear about your Juki - it's sod's law in operation again. :S

Sounds as though the glue experiment is over. Thanks for being the guinea pig on this one - you've saved those of us who were considering using glue a whole lot of hassle and unpicking, and for that we'll be eternally grateful. :) I've got a Bernina which I use for most of my quilting, so I suspect it would have refused to play ball too.

I think most modern machines make "wake up" noises when they're first switched on, which is all quite normal and acceptable. But the noise I referred to in my previous post happened every time I used the auto presser foot (which was frequently). My dealer confirmed that this was the normal noise.

I was torn for a while because the auto lift was absolutely great for quilting, but I just couldn't live with that much noise while I was sewing - it really irritated me. I love peace and quiet while I work, so this was much too intrusive into my lovely peaceful world of stitching.

It was still a beautiful machine though and I was sad to see it go before I'd got to know it better. :(

I love my auto presser foot

Can you turn it off Stitches ?? Cos' I sure wish I could!

I've used it for about 8 hours in total now and Im not sure about it yet ... mainly cos of the auto presser foot but also because any time I start stitching it makes this weird , raspy mechanical start sound ... not whilst sewing but just when I begin and I dont know whether A) that should be or B) I can live with that.

I bought the Atelier 7 a year ago. I used it for 24 hours and then took it back - I simply couldn't live with the noise that you've described above, Iminei.  :S Some people don't notice it. Unfortunately, I wasn't one of them. Lovely machine otherwise. I bought a Bernina instead, but I still love my older Janome too.  <3 Best of both worlds.

Hi, I'm new... / Re: Just arrived

Hi Giotto - nice to see you on here. I'm also a returnee to sewing - so many things have changed since I was sewing in the 70's and 80's - mainly the availability of information on the internet (which is good  :)) and the plethora of new fabrics (or fabric names anyway, which is confusing  :S).

Wow, Vezelay - you sound like a really busy person. :) I'm fairly new on here myself but lurked on TSF for a long time. This is a great forum with lots of knowledgeable members. It's nice to see you.

Very useful research, Ruby - I'm looking forward to hearing the results of your tests!  :)

I'm one of the fairly new people on here - it's nice to meet you, Bobbinalong.  :)

I've used 505 successfully for basting on both polyester and cotton batting. I also use a glue pen for matching tricky points when piecing but I've never tried Elmer's glue. Have often thought about doing so though, so would be interested to see how you get on.

Beautiful quilt and a labour of love. I started one many years ago when I was a teenager but soon got bored of the repetitive hand sewing. I know how much work goes into hand-sewn quilts - especially the actual quilting - so very well done indeed.  :toast:

Block of the Month 2017 / Re: Block of the Month - December

It measures a perfect 10" too!!! GRRRRRR!!!

It's a lovely block, so thank you to Catherine too. Also adding: I had to use a VERY scant 1/4" seam to achieve the 10" square! -<
