In the wardrobe / Re: Bartacks made with straight stitch?
« on: September 29, 2023, 10:33:55 AM »
A lot of machines have a bartack on them now, not very helpful if you haven't got one, but sometimes you don't even notice you have it with a machine with a lot of stitches.  I get to use mine on replacing trouser zips for DH, they seem to stick them near the bottom of the zip top piece.  Just looks like a tight zig zag.

Regretably, right this minute the only thing I could warm to @Deafoldbat was wellbeing.

That's useful.  I normally use my 'board' on the table all the time. It's weird that Horn make the cutting out table but don't include these, even as an extra to leave you to decide whether to use or not.

Dolls and Toys / Re: Gastropod anyone?

I've looked at it @Mick black bit only, and thought it was a shoe, then saw the metal at the top.  Then read your post, looked again, centered on the denim, still puzzled, then read the the other posts, came back to the picture and the penny dropped   Very clever. <3

Sewing Machines / Re: Yet another rethink about machines

Got three now @Celia a Husqvarna Mega Quilter (one stitch and as tough as old boots), little Pfaff Passport, for downstairs in summer and main man Pfaff 710, tend to use all the time.  If I could get them all in the same room at once they would probably be used more, but that space is taken by the overlocker and coverstitch.  I don't keep for 'best' no point in that.

I think she looks terrible and has obviously had work done.

Actually I always think she is trying too hard with severe looks and sometimes clothes @Lowena

Waffle have some patterns with lots of pockets on but added on their Utility Apron, which is not quite the same thing although I suppose it could be canabilised.

I've got oodles of tops in that particular New Look pattern @SewRuthieSews

Same with the jacket, or jean jacket in my case McCalls 5860, not oodles but made 3 and dithering whether to make another.  I've taken in the sides recently as I wanted more boxy plus the weight loss.

The blackwood cardigan, I think I have four in it and wouldn't mind in a different fabric

I do need another dress pattern though, as I've been using an old McCalls, straight up and down and short sleeves, but I need a change.

In the wardrobe / Re: Beige Knit Top - embellish or leave as is?
« on: July 27, 2023, 10:57:50 AM »
Of all the tops I have the ones that have had minimal emelishment around the neck are the ones I like best, (all purchased) sometimes it can be too much on the whole body.  I've tried myself around neckline and sleeves (different fabric) and that has worked well.   Sometimes colour and fabric determines whether it's overkill.

I bought and even cheaper Motorola  off Ebay for about £160.  I  did some research and found they had the longest battery life, even longer if you don't switch on   Does every thing I want, which is mostly receive a code for different things, which it gets in seconds.  I don't use it much so my current contract is £7 something a month.

We've always kept a landline because in the event of a power cut they always work but now BT are threatening digital.

Current Projects / Re: Christmas Craft 2023
« on: July 13, 2023, 16:52:27 PM »
I've already made C**mas presents this year just kept quiet about it as you'd all likely think I was crazy.  :scream:  My justification is that I had some down time between real sewing projects - bags,  clothes etc and needed something to sew that I could do from stashed goods. Even worse is that they're all packed up ready to gift.

 :faints:

I'm not a fan of layered dresses @marylou but that's probably because I'm short and the taller you are the better the range of things you can wear.  Men sometimes have funny ideas about what women wear.  Mind hates trousers, I've never worn them since I bent over at a kitchen cupboard and split them across the backside.  Black is another thing he doesn't like, but I do or used to wear occasionally (actually that dress will fit now I've lost weight).

I'm 77 an I've just bought a Joe Brown dress after my husband saw another one that was or would be with my height down to my ankles.  He likes it, but I can guarantee he only likes it because of the colour.  Funny really, because Joe Browns actually ask your date of birth.

If you like it, who cares what anybody else thinks.

Fun with Fabric / Re: 10 Good Reasons to Buy Fabric
« on: July 07, 2023, 10:36:52 AM »
I actually found some fabric yesterday, still in the wrapping with the invoice, in one of the chest of drawers in the conservatory.  I have no idea why I bought it and I must have bought it.

Around two meters of mesh Lawnmower repair fabric in white.  :S  I've taken it upstairs, no idea why.
