Courses & Classes / Fabulous upcycling workshops at Janome, Stockport
« on: November 09, 2019, 15:11:22 PM »
I've booked myself on to two workshops at Janome in Stockport for upcycling boring clothes. There's the 'jumper chop-shop' on Wednesday 20th November and 'jacket to 'waste-coat' on Thursday 21st November. They are run by Carys-Hedd of Wenchwear in Cardigan (https://www.wenchwear.co.uk/en/). Details  of the workshops are here: https://www.janome.co.uk/masterclass They are £56 per day including lunch. You can book for one or two days.

I've seen Carys's shop in Cardigan and what she does is REALLY FABULOUS (follow the links on the Janome site). Unfortunately it now looks like the workshops might not run as there probably aren't enough people booked on. She's going to decide early next week.

So if anyone out there is interested in upcycling their boring old jumpers and jackets... Janome is easily reached from anywhere in Greater Manchester, Cheshire, West Yorkshire, Sheffield, Derbyshire etc.... (near the M60 and Stockport is 10 minutes from Manchester by train and 40 minutes from Sheffield).  And you get to spend two days with me....  :D :D

I see that Sewdirect and Weaverdee - and presumably all the other usual places - have Vogues on offer at 50% off and Simplicity at 40% off. Buttericks are still on offer until Sunday I think. Sewdirect has the new Vogues but their website fell over when I tried to use it so I've ordered some Simplicity patterns from Weaverdee.

Those of you who are fans of the famously comfy Hotters shoes may be interested to know that the TKMaxx website www.tkmaxx.com (then just do a search for Hotter) has quite a few pairs of Hotters winter boots at £29.99 per pair. However, unsurprisingly, most are a size 3 or 9 with only a few sizes in the middle range. I am at one end of this range (hums herring boxes without topses) so I've ordered up a couple of pairs.  :D

I saw this & I thought you may be interested! / Sew Direct flash sale
« on: February 15, 2019, 17:33:21 PM »
Don't know if anyone has posted details elsewhere but the Sew Direct website is doing a half price sale across all pattern brands until Sunday with free postage on orders over £10. The website is grinding along VERY slowly and I got a number of errors. I also can't persuade it to go through to Paypal - just got an error code- so had to use sagepay. It's a good time to stock up if you have been waiting for a sale.

Patterns Discussion / New Vogue Patterns - Spring 2019
« on: January 28, 2019, 14:35:12 PM »
The new spring Vogue patterns are out on the US website now here

I'm not finding a huge amount to really love. There's only one Marcy Tilton V9358 and while I like the dress it is very like a dress pattern I already have from Style Arc.

The Julio Cesar jacket pattern V9368 looks really like one of his patterns from a previous release - same big sleeves.

I quite like this Sandra Betzina jacket V1621 but not this SB dress V1612 Way too many frilies!

Naturally if I were half my age (and half my dress size!!) I'd swan off to Waitrose in this: Vogue 1616

It should be quite a few weeks before we see these in the UK shops or websites.

Patterns Discussion / New Vogue patterns - Winter 2018
« on: October 12, 2018, 17:20:11 PM »
The new winter Vogue patterns are now available on the US website here .

These won't be available in the UK for a few weeks yet.

There are a number of party frocks of course but I quite like the Marcy Tilton coat/ top V9352 although I don't think the fabrics they have used set it off to best advantage. Also the Zandra Rhodes top is nice if the fabric is like the one in the photo (but I don't like the hang bits - what are they about?!?) V1609
This skirt is stunning V9349. Maybe one for @DementedFairy .
The Bellville Sassoon Dress is lovely if you are thin! V1600

There still seem to be an awful lot of foofy sleeves about!

Patterns Discussion / Pearl Red Moon/Boho Banjo patterns
« on: August 12, 2018, 14:06:14 PM »
Has anyone tried any of the Pearl Red Moon/Boho Banjo patterns?  On Etsy here

and the blog which has some fabulous stuff on it.

I like lagenlook styles and some of these look interesting. I like the look of the Pheenie dress. They are in pdf form of course and most are about £14.40 or so on Etsy. I only see one Boho Banjo review on pattern review although there are some positive reviews on their Etsy site. I'm somewhat wary of indie companies but I wondered if anyone had experience of this one.

The new autumn Vogue patterns are now on the US Vogue site so I wondered what y'all thought of them. I like the Julio César jacket and the two Betzina patterns. Quite liked the Tilton dress pattern but I think.I can frankenpattern two existing patterns to get the same effect.

Events / Adamley silk sale 24th February, Langley nr Macclesfield
« on: February 12, 2018, 09:53:41 AM »
Adamley silk printers in Langley near Macclesfield are having a silk sale from 10-1 on Saturday, 24th February, 2018. https://en-gb.facebook.com/adamley.fabric

Langley is a village about 2.5 miles from Macclesfield. There are loads of trains to Macclesfield from Manchester and Stoke and beyond and from there it's a bus or taxi ride. I think there may be an infrequent bus service from Macc, so you can probably get there by public transport but it's not easy. There's limited parking at the Adamley mill.  If you do go it's worth getting there early. I've had lots of great pieces of silk from their sales over the years - see my winter glitz outfit!

I saw this & I thought you may be interested! / Fabric Guild Sale
« on: January 07, 2018, 14:28:11 PM »
http://fabricguild.co.uk/product-category/fabrics/. Probably mainly of interest to dark-siders but some very good bargains here. I've bought from them in the past and they are very reliable.

Standfast & Barracks in Lancaster used to print Liberty tana lawn and many of us drank from the font of fabulous fabric at their factory shop or katsfabrics on ebay.

We were inconsolable when they stopped printing Liberty (although luckily we had had the foresight to stock up on all the Liberty tana lawn we would ever need and then some).

I've just checked their facebook page and I see they are now stocking their own brand of Classic Lawn at £6.99. Some nice designs and looks comparable to Liberty. Goodie. An excuse to swerve off the M6 at J34 on next trip oop north. DH will be pleased!
