A Good Yarn / Re: Beaded Lace Wedding Shawl

Truly stunning ... Brava Charlotte!

When is the wedding again?

26th February. Coming up fast now and just keeping everything crossed that it can go ahead.

Machine knitted, or hand?  They are very cleverly done.

Hand knitted. One day I might own a knitting machine, but not yet.

I made another knitted bralette and shorts. I based it very loosely on the stitch counts for Jessie Mae's Ripple Bralette and Shorts, and added silk lined foam cups, elastic and a clasp at the back of the bralette. So happy with how this set turned out.

Dolls and Toys / Little Cake Topper Mouse
« on: December 17, 2021, 15:48:20 PM »
I finished my little 'mouse me' wedding cake topper.

The mouse pattern was from Carolyn Mee on Etsy, but I bought it almost two years ago, and she seems not to sell it anymore.

The dress is a mini replica of my wedding dress.

Now I need to get to work on the mouse groom.

Finally blocked it. Had to clear all the furniture out of my sewing room to do so!

Fun with Fabric / Re: sewing with fur fabric

Never had this, but a good tip for minimal shedding is to cut with a razor blade - just press very lightly and you will cut just through the backing fabric. It's still a bit messy, but much better than scissors or a rotary cutter.

A bit of a 'do' / Re: Bridesmaids outfits

Another one done! Halfway there now!

However, wearer of the V neck top in the centre of the above picture has decided that she doesn't want the top tucked in, and wants it cropped to the waist.  :\ I think my plan is to leave the invisible zip in the back (just unpick a bit just above the new hem) and add a second invisible zip upside down in the side seam. It does also need taking in a bit, so I  need to redo the side and/or princess seams anyway, otherwise I think I would flat out refuse.

A bit of a 'do' / Re: Dress code Glam/black tie

I think you should wear your skirt with something like a silk blouse and a big chunky bling-y necklace.

Two more top toiles completed! I feel like I am approaching the home stretch now... which is fortunate given we've got less than four months left!!  :D

Progress! All cut out, with the exception of the newly-introduced contrast waistband, for which I am waiting for the silk to arrive. Everything that can sewn in the meantime has been, except the back neck button loop and hem. Here it is all pinned together (with the similarly-coloured lining standing in for the waistband):

A bit of a 'do' / Re: Bone or underline?
« on: October 25, 2021, 15:19:00 PM »
I would underline with a nice sturdy cotton, rather than silk organza. I think I would probably sew some sew in polyester boning (Rigilene) to to the underlining (assuming it is also lined) - a couple of pieces front and back, along the grainline of the fabric. It won't support the skirt, but it will give it a nice structure.

I don't think I would want to add a waist stay for an eight year old for comfort, but if I did, I would do an elasticated one.

I would be tempted to look at an elasticated waist separate petticoat, instead of attaching the tulle, but do consider her waist definition, as @Esme866 says.

Can we have a close up pic????

It will look better once it’s blocked and the lace all opens out, but I need to tidy up first!  :D

That is amazing, you must be so pleased to get to the end.
How do the beads get on to the yarn while you are knitting?

I add them with a seriously tiny (0.4mm) crochet hook. Like this.

IT'S OFF THE NEEDLES!  :VV:

Well ahead of schedule. Now I just have to work out where to block it...
