Hi, I'm new... / Re: So glad to be here
« on: November 11, 2019, 11:26:12 AM »
More greetings @pip !

I did what someone else mentioned with my serger when I got it. Mine's a Singer and has color coding to show how to thread it. So I changed to matching thread colors so I could really study what each thread was doing.

Only being true to my name here I was brazen. Took a deep breath and cut all the threads and totally unthreaded the machine and started from scratch. I've only done the tie on once and didn't enjoy it so every color change is a complete rethread. I give it a good cleaning and floss out the tension disks while I'm at it.

It helps that Singer has an online, full color photo PDF tutorial on how to thread it. The tiny B&W photos in the manual are worthless.

So show it who's Boss. They're not really scary so long as you keep your fingers away from the blades.

Again, welcome!  :toast:

Oops wrong button.
Only when motor cycling or skiing!  0_0
They stop the draught going up your sleeves! The rain runs down your sleeve though!  0_0

With less then 10 inches of annual rainfall this sounds like a good conservation tool. More fashionable then rain barrels as well.  ;)

Sewalongs and Competitions / Re: Question regarding the last contest
« on: November 09, 2019, 19:47:19 PM »
As a viewer and not a participant I can say that December often turns into a blur. All the beautiful garments will be much nicer to enjoy early next year. Hate to see them not be seen by many of us in our rush to local activities.

They would certainly brighten up a dull and dreary February.  :flower:

I've done a blatant copy & past from @WendyW for the answers with a few additions.

The PROJECT LINUS - Nope. I'm on the wrong side of the ocean. Thought of doing one to donate here but the local Director won't accept anything from anyone with cats or dogs due to possible allergies.

A SPRING EQUINOX MUG RAT SWAP - Yes! The last one was fun, and the postage is fairly minimal, even for an ocean crossing. I believe Wendy on the postage so will be asking her for mailing coaching.

BLOCK OF THE MONTH - Maybe. Yes!

DARKSIDE BLOCK SWAP - Maybe - will depend on details and timing.

A SEWING ROOM ACCESSORIES SWAP - No Keeping my sewing room accessories for myself.

A FABRIC POSTCARD SWAP - Maybe - How is this different from a Mug Rug? Wouldn't they both be small squares of quilted fabric? Yes. They're fun.

MYSTERY QUILTALONGATHON - Nope. My life is currently not cooperating with large project plans. No. I don't do anything over lap sized.

SCRAP STASH QUILT CHALLENGE - Yes. I make these pretty consistently anyway. Sounds like fun and I've got scraps.....

Lovely! And the shirt's not bad either.  :flower:

Looks terrific. Everything about it is really good. The only problem I see is that it isn't my size. Can you go a bit larger on the next one please?

1056
I would enjoy that.  :flower: Mind you, I'm not saying I'd get anything made. But Jungle January always gives me a grin.

Now I might be tempted if it was fairly wide open, not just garments but accessories as well. I have a leopard print Minkie remnant just crying out to be on a hat and some gloves/gauntlets.

You do all wear gauntlets, don't you?  ><

@SewRuthieSews, November 7th for early finishers, December 7th for late finishers  :)

On calendar now. I'm working at it. OH should be gone for 5 days toward the end of November which will definitely help.

@SewRuthieSews , lovely collection!

WOW!!!!

And what a coincidence ... I myself came across this unfinished embroidery project from 1916 that I would love someone to finish for me, as I dont embroider ....  :P    ;)

... 1916? >< Methinks I smell something  :fish: here....

Yes @Ploshkin , I just discovered that. @Manuela was sharing one of my favorite *Americanisms*, rat's Patootie.  Just dipping my toe in a bit here and there as time allows. Hope to re land here about the end of October.

We could group write an R rated romance novel from this thread. Moist, pant, slack, panties, pant and fanny?

I will not supply any sample lines or paragraphs.

Nice pant Ploshkin!

(Yes. I'm *back* from the Colonies as it were.)

Today being the 15th, I am participating in SWAKOP.  :fish:

Fun with Fabric / Re: What would YOU do with this fabulous fabric ????
« on: April 01, 2019, 04:19:32 AM »
I'm starting to feel rather unwelcome here at TSP.

Teasing about fabric that isn't to your taste is basically OK, I suppose, as we all like different things. But to run it down, repeatedly, as some posters here have, simply because an American designer, designing fabric for an American company and primarily the American quilt market at that, has included words with American English spelling rather than the UK spelling? Absurd!

It enters into the realm of hate speech. Apparently some of you have a real problem with American spelling. Do you have the same dislike for Americans as well?

Should we be reporting hate speech? Asking for a friend.

I had no idea that the thumbs were functional, I've been 'liking' like billy-o. So that answers my question as to what the karma was all about. Also, recently discovered that the message icon can be changed so I like that too.
I think newbie's could do with an instruction sheet when they join  :S

I didn't know I could change the icon for the message. So I just did!  :)

Don't listen to 'em @Iminei  ! It's fabulous! Almost everything Janet Werker Frisch does is. These naysayers are just envious of you. The spelling looks fine to me.  ;)

What about some nice sewing room accessories, so you can enjoy these all the time? Machine cover, etc.
I also like T&T's dress idea. Or cut apart and re-pieced into a nice lap quilt just for you.  :cake:

I might need to get this. I'm surprised it's still available, as it came out in 2014  and most of them quickly vanish. I have the Sew Scarey Hallowe'en fabrics but haven't sewn up the bits yet. And several other panels. The 2019 Hallowe'en fabric line is to die for.  :ninja:
