Ouch! @Tamnymore you ought to be hung, drawn and quartered for that insult!

Do you go into Manchester for shops? I know Abakhan is in Manchester too, but not aware of anywhere else there.

Nooo, too big and scary for the likes of me. Anxiety.
I'm a cyclist so my go to place is Nortex mill. Dead friendly and just down the road from me. Cheaper than abakhan too.

Hello and welcome to the friendliest forum on the whole planet Carol. I'm in Bolton where we have as mentioned...Abakhan.
There is also Nortex Mill which is a nice place. There is also Gas Street Fabrics in Farnworth who deal mostly with fabrics of an eastern/asian look.
Another I've used is Always Knitting and Sewing which is in Chorley.

Not really keen on that idea @Ploshkin but it's an option if things get too much for me.

Ah no, the tables aren't actually against the walls. There's about an inch gap. I'm even thinking of widening the gap to about 6 inches so that fabric can fall behind it when cutting out etc.
Round about COVID outbreak I actually looked into paying for getting the wall fitted with sound proofing but ££££££££££££ pricey!

Agreed @WildAtlanticWay
Needle threaders on my bernette and even the Bernina is bloody crap.

I was re-watching series 3 of the GBSB recently on iPlayer and noticed that they swapped the sewing machines after the first couple of episodes from Janome to a Bernina 3 series. (I think it was the 350 that’s been superseded now). I hadn’t noticed that before. 😳

I read that they were using the Janome 5060 QDC in newer episodes right up to and including the 2023 series. A few contestants can be heard cursing it's slow speed as the machine tops out at 820 stitches per minute.
Pay attention woman!  :P

I have had a lovely time looking at all these machines, I am beginning to come down on the side of Janome,

has anyone seen this machine https://www.franklinsgroup.com/product/janome-sewist-780dc/. This seems a really good price and it is not too heavy.

I read that was the machine used in the great British sewing bee 2021.

Every machine I've had since my brother A150 has been a quilting/long arm machine and if memory serves, that was about the only real reason I sold it. More space. Other than newbie issues, I can't recall having any problems with it.

More room basically @Cazlyn
The walls in these houses might as well be made from tracing paper for all the soundproofing they offer.
Maybe I'm just not used to the new spot yet. We'll see.

Currently thinking about returning my sewing spot to back upstairs in my bedroom.
All I can hear all friggin day long is the neighbours. I could drown out the noise with my stereo but unlike those morons I was raised to have consideration for others and that's the other issue. I'm wary of making too much noise in my sewing. If the table squeaks, I worry. If I knock a ruler against the wall, I worry. If I swear at some stupid mistakes I've just made, I worry.
None of this was a problem before because the sewing spot was on the other end of the house.
Sigh.

I should've stated earlier but the denim Bernie chewed through wasn't in levi 501 territory. Probably 8 oz.....if that. So not really 'real' denim. Stitches were removed following each successful run too as I know those things don't half bulk up seams.
Despite how I might come across to some folk, I'm not the sort to run into a burning building without safety gear. I do have a lighter fluid soaked polyester cardigan to protect me.  :thumb:
