Fun with Fabric / Question about elastic?
« on: March 22, 2018, 19:18:29 PM »
I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place, I haven't a clue which section to post it in.
Which is best between knitted elastic and knitted honeycomb elastic in waistbands?  I want to make some pull on pants for wearing around the house, I'm not too keen on ordinary elastic and it's been years since I used knitted elastic on anything, I can't even remember what it's like to be honest  :S.
Thanks in advance.

Tech Know How / [SOLVED] Flagging posts?
« on: March 03, 2018, 17:18:18 PM »
I'm not tech savvy enough to know how difficult it would be but I wondered if it would be possible to have some way of flagging posts so we can go back to them at some point.  There's been a couple I've seen today alone that I would like to go back to but know I'm going to forget where I've seen them  :S

A Good Yarn / Aldi UK
« on: February 02, 2018, 21:58:05 PM »
Just to let anyone who's interested know Aldi have yarn, looms and fat quarters from Sunday 4th Feb.
I've used the Aran yarn and it's not bad yarn, I haven't a clue about the looms as I've never used one.

The Haberdashery / Teasle brush?
« on: January 23, 2018, 20:50:04 PM »
Does any one know where I can buy a proper teasle brush from please?  We don't have a proper haberdashery anywhere near us and the ones I've looked at on Amazon and ebay look rubbish.
Thanks in advance.

In the wardrobe / Any ideas?
« on: November 25, 2017, 22:30:41 PM »
I'm most likely posting this in the wrong place so apologies in advance if I have.
I've got a piece of cashmere I'd like to make a skirt with, the only problem is I'm allergic to any form of wool that comes into contact with my skin for long I end up scratching like I've got fleas.  I don't wear full underslips and hate tucking blouses etc into waistbands because I've got a bit of a belly nowadays

Vintage Machines / The Husqvarna is here
« on: August 30, 2017, 20:39:55 PM »
As promised, pics of the Husqvarna 21E I bought a couple of weeks ago.
It needed a new bulb (no problem) and I've cleaned the parts I've got the tools to get it apart with, it really was incredibly dirty!
I've also given it a good soaking in oil as it looks like it hadn't had an oil can near it in years, it sounds as sweet as a nut when it's running so I'm so I'm really chuffed with it.
I'm going to take it to my mechanic on Friday and will let him give it a good service, I don't know what damage may have been done to it if it's been used without oil for a while plus I think in view of its age PAT test wouldn't be a bad thing.
Hope you like it but I really have got to stop buying them now  :'( :S

In the wardrobe / Resin buttons?
« on: July 06, 2017, 17:46:10 PM »
Has anyone used the resin buttons I keep seeing lately?  I tend to use glass or wooden buttons, plastic if I'm desperate but I've never seen these resin ones in the shops. I've got a top I need buttons for and can't find the size I want in the right colours other than resin.
Has anyone got any feedback on them please?

Fun with Fabric / Scuba Crepe?
« on: June 18, 2017, 13:10:34 PM »
Has anyone used or does anyone know if scuba crepe is cool and suitable for the current weather?  I've never heard of it but I've been out of the game for about 10 years so im assuming it's something new and from what I've read about it, it says it's got similar folding properties to neoprene whatever that means which is a bit of a worry as neoprene generates heat.
If this link works this is one of the fabrics I've spotted but I'm not buying any if it's going to be too warm.  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Summer-Illustrated-Artistic-Flora-FlowerStretch-Scuba-Crepe-Dressmaking-Fabric/192209577240?_trksid=p2060778.c100290.m3507&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160727114228%26meid%3De6373468f6234f25974f199459c99a0c%26pid%3D100290%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D222538941554
Thanks in advance.

Vintage Machines / I bought her.
« on: June 04, 2017, 19:49:42 PM »
This is the 201k I went to look at.  She runs so smooth and is so quiet it's quite hard to believe.  I got it for £60 in the end, it needs more spools as it's only go 2 but I found some on ebay from the Singer sewing centre in Barnsley and ordered them.

In the wardrobe / Surefit vs Lutterloh
« on: May 20, 2017, 21:12:33 PM »
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, apologies if it isn't.
Could I have some opinions of the two systems please.  I've just purchased the Surefit pants kit and sat down with it tonight to have a practice drawing the pattern.  Either I'm a very strange shape and I do mean strange! I don't look strangely shaped in the mirror and if I could get pants long enough to fit in the shops I can find some that fit everywhere except the leg length.  The dots for the centre back waist seems to be miles out to the side waist, the hip to waist dots make it look like I've got an hour glass waist and that's just for starters.  I'm post menopause so have virtually no waist now and am honest with myself and quite critical of my figures.
Both kits are expensive but I will buy the Lutterlol kit if you vote it better than the Surefit kit.
Thanks in advance.

In the wardrobe / Question about toile fabric?
« on: May 09, 2017, 23:00:09 PM »
In my last job I had unlimited access to muslin to make toiles from but I'm finding it hard to get hold of at a reasonable price now I'm in civvy street so to speak. I just wondered what you use please?
