Sewing Machines / Re: Bills New Machine

You may get skipped stitches when you've got a lot of layers - the needle can no longer drop so far down, and fails to connect with the lower thread. So that is a constraint that cannot be worked around.

Enjoy the machine :)

Some folks put extra face masks in them too, to carry in their bags?

There was more than one type of slot I believe - but your best bet is to talk to Helen Howes

Lovely lady, very knowledgeable, may well have what you seek.

Best of luck with it

A Good Yarn / Re: Fitting a knitted garment
« on: January 13, 2024, 08:50:23 AM »
You talking hand knitting here? Machine knitting?
For hand knitting, because knitted garments, tend to have much more give in them, there is much less said about fitting. you just have to make sure the basic size is right for your measurements, the sleeves long enough, that sort of thing.

I suppose if you have a very specific fitting issue you could make pattern adjustments, graph paper used to be how I did it - knitting is very straightforward, one square+= one stitch LOL - but it would be hard to judge how much of an alteration you'd need to make until you'd tried, at least by knitting the back panel and seeing how it fitted your shape. And each different yarn would have a different kind of stretch and drape I imagine.

I don't think there is a simple answer to this one, trial and error (which I hate myself and so am sorry to have to ssay it here)

I recently took up the offer of some free Kremke Soul Wool from @LeilaMay  Sorry memory is awful lately so apologies if it wasn't you.
Anyway i have crocheted a shawl with the wool and i would like to buy some more to crochet a cardy but can't seem to find a UK supplier. Can you help?

My apologies for not having seen this sooner.
I bought the wool at Wool on the Exe :)

You can drop the dogs on a 201 - it's from underneath and you need to know what to unscrew  :)

Scroll down this PDF of the booklet - provided free from ISMACS - and you'll find a picture and instructions on the booklet's page 34

I've been cleaning the tension mechanism on a 201, and knitting the second sock. Both jobs in the conservatory whilst watching the rain :)
OH has wired a modern motor to put on the 201 - the old black was a goner.

Sometimes I find it helps to use a narrow pair of short DPNs.
Then I can literally re-knit the section - even if it's just 2 or 3 stitches wide, putting in any traveling stitches, YO or whatever. I find I can only do the most simplest conversion from knit to pearl or visa-versa with a crochet hook.

Work in good light. Don't do complex patterns when you're tired. Don't worry about a small mistake. All things that work for me, depending on how precious the thing is  :)

Unfortunately, WildAtlanticWay has had to withdraw from buying the Bernina, as she isn't able to get it over from here to there  :)

I have messaged @Sewbusy - but I think she has the builders arriving this morning (?) so it may be a bit of wait  :D
