Sewing Machines / Uten sewing machines
« on: February 20, 2022, 10:48:14 AM »
Does anybody know who makes these machines? I've seen them advertised and I got the impression that they may be from Singer. I'm not thinking of buying one but just curious.

Technical Help / So can I ------?
« on: December 19, 2021, 16:15:42 PM »
I decided to make a top with some 4 way stretch jersey, a piece that I bought to make a t-shirt months ago. The top has long sleeves unlike a t-shirt.
Here's my question - I can get the whole thing out of the fabric IF I cut the sleeves across rather than down the length, will this work and be ok?
The top is to wear under another one so won't all be seen.
TIA

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Help wanted please
« on: June 23, 2020, 14:14:01 PM »
Ok all you super sleuths, I'm making a quilt for DGD2 ( all the other littlies have had one) the colours I'm using or hoping to use are pink, grey, cream, navy and ---------- a pale copper colour but I can't find anything. A shimmery fabric would be okay as that is what is on her wallpaper, any ideas gratefully received.

Current Projects / I'm back-----
« on: March 19, 2020, 17:10:36 PM »
I'm back, well if only for today. This enforced 'not going out' has given me the oomph to finish my scrap quilt. It was abandoned  at the end of October when my charity sewing started but I've come to a natural break with that and as I've now got lots more sewing time out it came this afternoon. The blocks were finished so it's been a case of assembling today,  all the sashing is done and the binding, now for the hand sewing to finish. It's my first QAYG attempt and so far I'm happy with it and what a change to be able to do some nice easy straight line sewing.
I might just get round to finishing my mystery quilt from a couple of years ago but there is a lot more still to do with that - sandwiching, quilting etc.
All in all I've enjoyed this afternoon getting back to P&Q. :)

Your Favourite Suppliers / Sewing machines direct SMD
« on: October 28, 2019, 16:20:32 PM »
What fantastic service, one of my machines decided that it would protest yesterday so I had to stop using it. I phoned SMD at 9.45am today - 'if you can bring it down let us know when and we will see if we can fix it for you'.
OH said that we could go down so phoned them back - ' fine see you soon' Took machine in, it needed something replacing - 'can you go for a coffee and when the engineer gets a break in what he's doing he will have a look?' Went back an hour later - all done. Brilliant service, would recommend them any day.

I can't believe that it's already a month since 2019 FOQ, only 11 months to go to the next one.

Your Favourite Suppliers / Jaycotts - again
« on: August 14, 2019, 11:48:57 AM »
Thanks to other enablers on this forum - duck billed scissors, you know who you are, I have just visited the Jaycotts website (no I haven't bought any scissors - yet). I found their blog and what I didn't know was that they have started selling fabric, not online but at the shop. Since when? Also the blog is informative, lots to read and advice re patterns and sewing techniques. Of course they mention tools etc available at Jaycotts but well worth a read if you have a spare hour or two.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Time to waste?
« on: June 26, 2019, 21:22:19 PM »
I was wasting time playing games and came across this
https://www.bigfishgames.com/online-games/5935/quilting-time/index.html
Choose your fabrics, build your blocks and make a quilt. Take your time or play against the clock, didn't try the other options but I've been playing for over an hour!!!!!

Your Favourite Suppliers / Affordable Sewing Machines - gone
« on: June 10, 2019, 20:35:47 PM »
I was in Moreton this afternoon and noticed that Affordable Sewing machines has gone. In it's place is Trojan sewing machines, they seem to sell mainly industrial machines and have been in a building a few hundred yards away for a while. Sadly ASM hadn't been the same for a while, not carrying the stock that they used to but my Janome was there for a service in January. I don't know whether I will be able to get my machines serviced by the new people.
