I started some EPP about 35 years ago, @classical retro  - threw it out, last year, because the 6 hexes I'd joined together were more than a little fusty!

Gosh Ouryve, we were EPPing simultaneously. Mine was supposed to be a summer bedspread project.  I planned it, started  putting the flower (7 hexagons sewn to look like a flower) hexes  together but didn't like the effect so unpicked it with a view to trying again. I watch that much tv, I've no excuse really. Luckily, they are still in good nick in various bags in the sewing room along with the original plan. I've got plenty of fabric remnants.  I need to make better use of my time!

There is some serious inspiration here.

I'm new to machine patchwork, although I did a lot of practising last summer. With the lighter nights coming, who knows.
I also started a hand patchwork quilt last century.  Maybe this is the year.

Thank you all.

Here they are https://simplicity.com/vogue-patterns/

Marked new, but not on a separate page. (20)Vogue have also re-released 1970s Diane Von Fursternberg wrap dress pattern 50 year anniversary.

Not much to write home about for me although the DVF has had rave reviews. That said I do like the skirt and trouser suits patterns, but I have patterns that I can use to create the effect.

The Haberdashery / Re: What needles?
« on: January 24, 2024, 20:20:51 PM »
Having been a woven needle, one size needle only user for many, many years, I always need to look up which needle to use and when.  I'm getting better, but I found this article and printed out the needle chart at the end to put with my needle collection.

I've learnt to hear when my needle needs replacing, but still need to work out in my head why universal needles can't be used for everything, but that will come with time. Enjoy.

Your Favourite Suppliers / Rotary Cutter Blades
« on: January 24, 2024, 20:03:54 PM »
I ordered a 10 pack of 45mm blades from this company. Before I had closed my computer I had an item dispatched message.

I was sceptical to say the least, but my blades were delivered the next day, much sooner than I expected. They were the cheapest I could find too.

That is the machine I learnt to sew on. Brings back happy memories.  I had to do years of hand sewing before being allowed to use it. Thank you Cheesecake.

It’s now mine, I used it again for the first time a couple of years ago.  My reaction, takes too long and turning the handle … when did that get so hard?

Maybe I ought to go back to it, slow sewing is good for the soul??

Sewing Spaces and Furniture / Re: height adjustable table
« on: April 24, 2023, 07:57:11 AM »
I bought the IKEA Trotten 160 x 80cm some time ago and have used the top on my old system: that  top was too narrow. I went to store to look and try.  I am below average height so I can’t comment on that aspect, but the mechanism is sturdy, which was a consideration for me.

I ordered in store and they delivered, but you can buy on line. The base is quite heavy.

I will set it up …. before too much longer…

Hello Clem

Here are a couple of sites that may be of use. Joost shows you how to create a pattern from your own measurements, as well as demonstrating how to measure, holds your hand through the whole process. 20 short vids, don’t seem available on YouTube. No waffle, just fact, with loads of tips.

https://joost.decock.org/fromscratch/trousers

He also has a site that includes a lot of interesting stuff.

https://freesewing.org/

The fact you’ve already investigated how trousers are made and made your own is way better than any commercial pattern in my view. (Unless they were pants!) Pun intended. Soz.

There will be info on how to create a button fly somewhere on line.
Enjoy.

Embroidery and Embellishment / Re: The red dress project.
« on: February 28, 2023, 14:19:21 PM »
I took a whim to visit the exhibition.  It is really worth seeing in person especially the venue. As well as a venue for exhibitions, there is a fabulous park with playground, climby things for children and loads of space to run around.  I was sorely tempted.

The dress will be back in the UK later this year, Bristol in May.
