We start the new year in good fashion with busting your more or less considerable stash(es). Here are the rules, feel free to fire away any questions.
1. Sew an item (usable or wearable) using fabric in your stash within the contest time frame.
2. To count as stash, the fabric must have been in your possession for at least 6 months (so prior to July 1st, 2018). If you aren't certain when you got the fabric, your educated guess is fine; the concept is to exclude more recent purchases, not track exact dates.
3. Any sewn item is allowed (clothing, accessories, home dec, pets). Sets, such as curtains, count as one 'project'. Slip covers count as one project per piece of furniture.
4. Any item entered must have been made entirely in the contest time frame started no earlier than January 1st, finished on January 31st and pictures uploaded with a short description here in this thread by February 7th.
5. You are encouraged to submit more than one project, and state the amount of fabric (in yards) you used for each item. You’ll get an extra point/vote for each yard of fabric you used up (I may live to regret that....)
At the end there will be two winners, the biggest destasher (using maths) and the best destasher (by vote).
Happy de-stashing

Well that explains it. There is someone sneaking new bits in, all the time.
-
I've got two or three projects already in mind, and I haven't even gone through all my boxes yet! I want to make a full sleeved highnecked blouse out of some ivory viscose leaf patterned voile I have had for years. Also a length of thick stripy wool jersey is taking too much room and needs to be turned into a coatigan.
-
I'll plan on joining this contest and I have 2 garments already planned!
I need to re-do my skirt muslin from 20+ years ago, am I able to do this before January 1st to perfect fitting before I cut into my good fabric?
-
This sounds like the kind of contest I need to join. My stash is in serious need of busting.
-
Back in April I bought some seriously floral knit fabric from Francesca - without a clue what I was going to do with it. I am awaiting a date to have my knee operated on and need a new dressing gown for the hospital so I had already decided that this was it's destiny. Depending on what date they give me, I think this might do for the contest, providing there is enough time between 1st Jan and O-day!
-
ROFL, this is up my alley. I got a ton of clothes I have to make. And when my folks were sick, I shopped rather then sew so I got A LOT of fabric that is anywhere from a year old to 8 years.
I say this, but we all know I got the ideas but never seem to pull through!
-
@Helen M - I'm pretty sure that toiles are fine in advance, but @Manuela will give the definitive answer. :D

@Helen M, all kind of preparations such as toile making, fitting, amending the pattern, etc. are allowed to be done beforehand. :)
-
Thanks for clarification. Not sure how much time I'll have but sometimes you can do a lot in small snatches.
-
This could be the shove I need to make up the dress/tunic I've had planned for around 3 years now. Thing is, I'm very erratic in my sewing habits. Good idea for a group sew though.
-
My operation is scheduled for 21st February so I shall have time after all.
-
...... and remember, each uses up yard gives you an extra bonus.....
-
Time to replenish my pillowcase collection. Too sloooooow at anything else to compete.

@Manuela, on that note in some competitions cutting beforehand is sometimes allowed. Where are we on that for this competition? (not like I really think I would get to it; you never know)

I’d have no problem with that :)
-
Cool. Thanks Manuela. :)
-
Cool. Thanks Manuela. :)
Does that mean that you committed to take part? Hint, hint
-
Yes! Photos are another matter, but I'll try to get that sorted out. Don't get too excited though. My sewing is usually far from impressive....very far. :S
-
I feel a bit silly now!!! when I read the list(2019 Jan) and it said stash I thought you were talking about all the off cuts from other things that you have made. So off I went to the box(large) with all offcuts in and started choosing fabric that went well together then I thought how does the forum make a garment out of all these offcuts(stash) >< I ironed all the little bits of fabric some no bigger than 4" to 1/2 metre stacked them up and thought the only thing I could make is a quilt or Joesph multi coloured dream coat :o
Then I read Skoutsew post and they mention they have had projects that have been bought for a long time and it was a shove to complete those. 0_0 it is not bits of fabric thats just called stash it is fabric you've bought for a garment that you never started! thank goodness for that this has puzzled me for days.
I have two projects all fabric and pattern ready bought November 2017 but never started so I will do one of those.
I still feel silly
-
That's not silly at all @Ragtimedoll . I've made several garments from lots of little bits! You could make something really nice. :)
-
Ah, the subtle difference between stash busting and scrap busting. :D More commonly you see the Darkside denizens talk about scrap busting, as Q & P as well as applique lend themselves to saving every little scrap -search confetti quilts to see what I mean.
Most Sewists I know have vast yardage stockpiled for whenever in the future they get to that project. See a good sale, buy. See another one, buy more. And on it goes. No matter if you (me) only sew three or four items in a year. We must be prepared in case inspiration strikes. :toast:
Actually, if I get the main project done I have a secondary project in mind that will use up any and all scraps from the first one. >:)
edited to adjust spelling.
-
Renegade, you describe it so well. Oh the burden of inspration! I'm pretty sure my stash will not bust. Maybe nibble at the edges.

You could use those for the Refashion, Recycle and Upcycle contest - I’m happy to include scraps there.
BTW, I made a Techno Coloured Dream Coat for the school’s musical performance 2 years ago. I used all kind of upholstery fabric samples, patched them together into strips of one colour arranged in an ombre effect and then sewed the strips together. It looked great - too bad there was not enough time to incorporate LED lights....
-
You comments are amazing and some made me laugh! however I have only two stashes to my name and both fabrics have a pattern attached waiting to be done. I have 15 stashes or packets containing 10 balls of wool in each all waiting with patterns to knit. I have 6 quilts waiting to be backed, I have 12 different B.O.M to finishes I have 30 cross stitches I do one through the summer (better light) I love to read and read (try ) two books a month. I play the piano, so really for dressmaking I only buy fabric for the pattern I have found and use that fabric for nothing else. Stashing fabric that as no project (pattern) as never crossed my mind.
Perhaps I could change!
-
I think I got a bit confused.
I tried to combine selfless with stash busting so I had a go at busting Craftsy's stash. Actually I had two goes... :( :|
 Well they keep having sales and I need to make the postage worthwhile and they have such pretty things......and I am weak...very very weak... :[ and poor

I have removed my post - apologies that my attempt at humour misfired.

@Ragtimedoll, I think we need an UFO contest just for you.....
-
@Ploshkin..... I did not know this was an English Marking site I thought it was a sewing site if you want to correct a persons post then you should do it via a private message and not in full view.
Therefore I will be bowing out gracefully :(

I think you missed the point of the post there- I read it as a jokey correction designed to help you disguise the extent of your stash/es/ing from your other half [as most of us do lol]
-
@Ragtimedoll - I think Ploshkin's post was done strictly tongue-in-cheek and was meant to point out just how sinful the rest of us are for having such a stash. I really don't think it was intended as a genuine criticism.
-
Forums are wonderful things. They make it possible for people to connect.
They can be a great source of support.
Unfortunately the one thing they cannot transmit is the tone of voice in which something is typed IYSWIM.

Please don’t be offended @Ragtimedoll, Ploshkin tried to explain the the ‘philosophy’ of stashing and the implications a stash can have...
Something I’m not too familiar with either, my stash is tiny compared to some I’ve heard of and I do a regular inventory to ensure the fabrics I bought are being put to good use.
-
I don’t have a stash. :(
So far I’ve either bought material for a specific project (Xmas gifts) or been given the material as part of my sewing class projects so there’s no leftovers.
I was thinking of making a cover for my ikea Poang chair in the new year so I might enter the House Beautiful competition, if allowed. However, is this competition also requiring the use of fabric you already own?
That’s also assuming I can find/buy some suitable fabric by then.
-
I think the only competition requiring the use of stash is the Stash Buster, otherwise all those good girls who used up all their stash in January (yeah, right) would have nothing to enter all year. Oh, and Lowena could enter nothing at all! Hope you find suitable fabric for your chair. I have a couple of those Poang chairs and find them very comfortable.
-
I have a huge stash, so it will be good to use a bit up. A denim pinafore dress is on my agenda.
-
I'm trying to imagine the possibility of using up all my stash in January @toileandtrouble . I'd need the help of a fair sized factory
-

No, only the stash busting contest requires this :)
-
@Tamnymore and @Francesca, Me too! If all the stash was gone, I'd be able to go shopping with a clear conscience, on the other hand, it is my source of inspiration. Having a whittle though, when I've decided what
-
So not everyone is a  there are some  like me :)
You have all been sweet cute with admitting to your stash stocks
Abbreviation I think I will invest in a code breaker for this section :o
-
@Ragtimedoll I've learnt loads of new abbreviations since joining this forum. I also found out about overlockers...and coverstitch machines...and machine embroidery....and the need for a stash. I had none of these things before (well, maybe a very small stash)
-
*wanders into sewing room, becomes overwhelmed by the stash*
I hate having a stash - I want to make up all that lovely material!! I really ought to be able to enter this competition!
-
@Ragtimedoll, I think we need an UFO contest just for you.....
Not just for @Ragtimedoll . Maybe not a competition (unless the winner is the sewist with the most UFOs), but a challenge would be great. That would be so unifying. Light and darksiders, everyone (except @Lowena ).
-
:P @Pearl ... you know you're only jealous  :D <3
-

Hmm, how about a year-long challenge starting in January to see who finishes the most UFOs @Pearl ? Is @Lowena in my camp, as in not having any UFOs?
-
Well, my stash is...heck, I don't have my inventory at home. Well over 2000 meters. Last count, I have 14 or 15 tubs of the stuff, wrapped on comic board neatly and double stacked in each tub. Out of that, I have about half a tub of fabric I'd never use (you know the fabrics bought online, bought on sale, didn't come out as expected, etc.), half for my husband's fabrics and one tub for my daughter. Doesn't include my muslin fabrics, though.
And I inherited my mom's fabric, which is a good half again as much as I have. And no, I haven't gone through it. I have no idea what she has fully.
Recalling all this fabric is one of the few things my synesthesia is actually good for. I can't tell you what tub my fabric is in most of the time (I can get in the general area, but not exact tub) but I can tell you what the fabric is and color (like dragonfruit satin) but not content. And I can tell you the year and day of the week I bought it, although not always the month.

What's the difference between a UFO and a WIP? (Twiddles thumbs now sewing things out of bounds until Christmas visitation period has expired).
-
@Fajita to me a WIP is one you're actively working on and a UFO is one that is set aside an not being worked on.
-
I think we need a glossary of terms.
-
Yes @Manuela I have no UFOs or any stash. I buy specifically for each project, any leftovers get ditched ( recycled ) unless it's a big bit of fabric ( FQ or bigger ) which can be incorporated into the next project. That way everything is kept neat, tidy and accounted for
-
Hmm, how about a year-long challenge starting in January to see who finishes the most UFOs @Pearl ? Is @Lowena in my camp, as in not having any UFOs?
Yes, please! I'd love that. We could list our UFOs in January and post pics of them as we finish.
-
@Fajita to me a WIP is one you're actively working on and a UFO is one that is set aside an not being worked on.
I must admit I thought people used WIP because 'in progress' sounds better than 'unfinished'.
-
I have a stash that is much bigger than it should be considering how few projects I've ever actually finished! Most of it is small pieces from before I was really interested in historical fashion but I've got 5m of grey suiting which I bought 5 years ago so I'm going to try to make an early-mid 1880s riding habit. It'll be a bit of a squeeze but there should just about be enough fabric. I've already got B6400 (https://butterick.mccall.com/b6400) for the jacket (view C with some modification to the back pleats) and I'm going to use TV264 (https://www.trulyvictorian.net/1883-riding-habit-skir.html?category_id=26) for the skirt.
-
I must admit I thought people used WIP because 'in progress' sounds better than 'unfinished'.
I rarely have UFOs, but I do WIPs. I have one UFO right now. I made a dress in May and didn't finish it, rare for me. I made a hi-low hem and hate where it hits, and waited for my mom to help me and she never got the chance because of several things. Now it's sitting on my dress form waiting to be hemmed and the binding added.
It got too cold to wear it, so I never bothered with it. And it will sit on the form until Spring when I decide I want to wear it.
Now WIP is usually how I sew. Since my normal sewing is to a season, I can have 10-30 items at a time I am working on in various stages. With my parents' illnesses I didn't sew like that, but I did keep projects going as I went. Most were hand sewn, but I'd work on them 10-15 minutes at a time but never did put it aside.
-
@toileandtrouble, if you make the covers for the Poang chairs, I will watch with interest as I have two very faded ones, from being in the conservatory
-
Not me, I did consider it briefly but had too much to do. It was WildAtlanticWay who was going to bite the bullet.
If I did, it would not be a loose cover, but basically taking the cushion apart and remaking in a different fabric. I would also put some extra strips of velcro on the base of the back cushion, so that someone (nameless) doesn't keep pushing it to one side. (mutter mutter).
-
That would be great! a year to complete UFOs, I have so many I would have to decide which ones could be completed for this year I am not listing them all. I do make soft toys (rag dolls) some are finished sort of. I have three knitted cardigans that are almost finished just all need one sleeve each. Upholstery! I did finish putting fabric on my piano stool. :loveit: Need to finish my old armchair though -<
I have 2 jackets which I have fabric for to start, I have a coat which needs a collar and yes! two sleeves it is funny how this needs sleeves like my cardigans (maybe a pattern forming here perhaps I don't like sleeves)
Would this UFOs start at the same time as the Jan contest?
@Lowena... you could join in and share some of my UFOs ha!ha! or just sit and chat! or we could give a pass to those who have no UFOs to buy a project so everyone can join in and be a team <3
-
I have a huge resource centre of fabric, I decided to call it the resource centre rather than the stash so I would be more willing to use it. (A stash sounded like something I needed to keep, and I want to use it).
Last year I replaced the large open shelves, with a slightly smaller closed cupboard and managed to give away a lot of the fabric that did not fit in.
I've also been using the Stash Shrinker spreadsheet from https://sewjourners.net/2018/01/02/stash-shrinker/ (https://sewjourners.net/2018/01/02/stash-shrinker/)
You can adjust the multiplier - mine is only set to 2.
So far this year I have sewn 121 metres of fabric (but bought 64). I did more sewing earlier in the year.
Anyway I would like to join in! I have lots of fabrics still to choose from.
-
How do you all remember the fabrics (and quantities) in your stashes?
-
You echoed my thoughts entirely @Sewingsue . I can only count the growing number of plastic boxes its all stuffed into.
-
All my fabric counts as stash, as I have been really good and making up the newer acquisitions as soon as I buy them.
Do I get extra points if my fabric goes back to 1918? >:)
...and I have about 20 UFOs :S :'( :|
-

1. No 8)
2. That makes you an ideal candidate for an UFO challenge @Lyn-J . I’ll put it up later this week.....
-
WOW! @Francesca that is seriously impressive.
-
While I remember my stash by color and type, I still have swatch cards with all the info on it: storage location, yardage, width, date purchased, content, price, washing instructions and notes. Everything is filed in an old bank filing cabinet for index cards. Most of my lengths is 3 yards or more.
Most of the time, I go looking for a specific card rather then shopping, my stash.
In all the 20 some odd years I have had a stash, I have forgotten one fabric. Most of the time I can recall my fabric with about a 95% accuracy to the information to the card. I don't forget the fabrics, just forget details like width or exact yardage. Part of it is a good memory and part of it is I don't let it sit and never look at it (I go through the cards at least 3 times a year pretty thoroughly, twice for sewing seasons and once for inventory).
-
Very impressive spreadsheet @Francesca . I do the odd list or spreadsheet of fabrics but I never keep them up to date so perhaps that could be a NY resolution. I like to record where I have bought a length of fabric - a memory of a happy fabric shopping trip.
You are very organised too @Kwaaked. I can usually find where I have stored a length of fabric but sometimes it's a bit of an archaeological dig!
-
I cut a little strip of each fabric and attach to a record card and then file in a box. I use yellow card for woven and blue for knit. I record the composition, length, width and jot down if I’d originally bought for a specific pattern. (I purposely don’t record the price, that would be far too scary!)
Once made up I file at the back with details of the pattern used.
I have thought about numbering the cards and then referencing on my patterns to match the suggested fabrics and record pattern numbers on the cards, but that might be a bit too anal :|
-
B£00*y h*** , @Holly Berry , that's a bit organised!!!! (with aplologies for the "magic" words!) 0_0

When I buy fabric, I actually have no intention of it becoming part of a stash - I buy it for a specific purpose, but don't always necessarily get round to doing it - maybe I changed my mind about the garment or decided on a different fabric or needed more of it or whatever. By which time, said fabric is two or three down in the pile and well on it's way to being forgotten. This is far too late to be making notes of it on cards, spreadsheets or whatever.
-

Sounds like me :)
-
Fabric shops were not nearby so I used to make special fabric shopping trips and bring all the fabrics back. They didn't all get sewn up of course.
And then I lived near a roll end shop where you could park for free if popping into town (which was so handy you had to have a quick look).
And then I moved but handily the market had a fabric stall, so I would go in from work in the lunchbreak and see what he had. Such a nice man so I would have a chat and buy something.....
Also people gave me fabric as they know I sew. So the end result of doing that for 25 years was quite a lot of fabric.
I tried to up my sewing and reduce my buying :-)
I don't know anymore what I have in my stash. I abandonded my swatch system about 10 years ago. It was necessary until then as I sewed in a corner of the bedroom and kept the fabric in the loft in numbered boxes. However now I have a lovely cupboard in my dedicated sewing room. It is broadly sorted my knits, wovens and home decs and within those by colour, but sometimes things come out and get put back later elsewhere......
-
I've only got about 6 lengths of fabric waiting to be made up and I don't always know where to find them.
-
Those bl**dy sheep again eh @Ploshkin ? You can't trust the woolly bu****s :D
-
I've started to gather things together to see how much I need to buy or if I can do the whole habit with things from my stash. So added to the initial suiting is a piece of medium weight navy cotton / poly cotton that I have absolutely no memory of buying - I didn't even know it was there until I found it in the bottom of a drawer. There's 1.5m so hopefully just about enough to line the jacket. Then I searched through my button jar and magically there were exactly the right number and sizes of blue fabric covered buttons. I've started colouring them in with black permanent marker to match the braid (a birthday present from at least four years ago) that I'll use to trim the neckline, bottom edge and sleeves.
-
Unless you have to store the stash somewhere inaccessible (in which case it will never get made up!) I really don't see the point of spending time typing up a spreadsheet.
The fabric is there to be looked at, albeit crammed into a cupboard. If the cut ends have been overlocked I know that it pre-washed. The fun part is looking at it, patterns in hand, and trying to decide if it's suitable for any of them.
-
Two jerseys are on the top ready for January. Can we cut and prep early? I need to print the PDFs.
yes :)
-
I have a couple of garments made from stash yardage planned for January, so if I get them finished I will enter.
I have a couple of bins of yardage, but much of my stash is made up of thrifted garments that I have purchased specifically to make into something else. Many of these have been waiting around for years. I know there is a refashion contest coming up in Sept., but I really want to get some of these garments either made into something I will wear or use or out of the house in the near future. I guess my question is, does the stash fabric have to be yardage?
-
@BayCreekGal you can use the thrifted garments as long as you’ve had them in your possession for at least 6 months. After all, this is what you stash...
-
Thanks for replying so quickly, @Manuela
-

Whoopee! Does an imaginary triple back flip. Opens up a few more possibilities. Thank you Manuela.
-

It doesn’t help me make it up though, I just know how much I’ve still got to sew 0_0
-
I'll happily join in on this challenge! I hope to sew at least 2 garments from stash in January, this will give me extra motivation.
I use the same stash shrinker spreadsheet that Ruthie uses, I think I actually learned about it from her. :) Lately I've been ignoring it and purchasing some yardage, some I needed to complete a specific project, some just called to me as I wandered through the fabric store and jumped into my cart!
I'll redouble my efforts in the new year to whittle down the fabric storage.
-
We can cut stuff out before 1Jan?
I'm on vacation until the 2nd so cutting things out during that time would be great. Mr MC will be in Asia for a couple of weeks in January so I should have some time to sew while he's gone.
-
Yes @mudcat ! I asked and Manuela said yes.
-
coming to this a bit late, but only until the 31st January! Do you know how MUCH stash I have, better get a wiggle on!
-
I may be on for this one, having stuffed up the blouse I was making to wear at Christmas - I ironed a hole in the centre front seam, and even though I could have fixed it, I realised I didn't like it anyway. I absolutely looovvvve the fabric, though, and I'm fairly sure I have enough over (and can rescue enough) to be able to make it in a better style.
it qualifies doubly for this contest, because I bought the fabric from @Francesca in April, so it has been in my stash since then, and was in hers before that!
-
I'm really looking forward to this contest. Hope to cut out a little in advance.
-
I'm in. I have several pieces of fabric that I will cut out tomorrow to work on over the next few weeks. My stash is sizable but it could use some downsizing in 2019. My goal is to sew more than I purchase.
-
Ditto. Going through the boxes for useful candidates.
-
I'm going to have to finish at least one garment a day if I'm to stash bust.
First up is a white poplin shirt, If I can lay my hands on the fabric.
-
I don't think stash busting means clearing your *entire* stash does it?!
All I am aiming for is to get mine down to the point where it fits inside my stack of plastic boxes! I don't want to buy another box apart from another one for my patterns. I am going to sew up the stripy T that is already cut out this pm, then I can start on the stash.
-
Almost finished my first one

@Francesca This is where fabric hogs come in handy...you know all those crazy designs you love that take 18 meters of fabric.
If I have time, I want to recreate a mesh of Carl Kohler's A History of Fashion morning gown (page 346) figure 425/426 (front of the former, back of the latter). Archive.org copy (https://archive.org/details/historyofcostume00khle/page/346)
-
@Francesca While I was being a bit tongue in cheek about it, I have several lengths of rayon challis I bought to make maxi dresses out of...and most of it has been there for 7 years or so. Just making those would get rid of about 30 yards.
-
Am I the first?!! Cut out yesterday, sewn today. Tropical weight shirt for DH. Fine cotton lawn bought last June & then summer was over before I cut it. Pattern was made from his favourite summer shirt which I insisted went in the bin. Now to cut 2 more & start the production line. Features my new garment labels, a birthday present.

Think
I'll still be clearing my stash come New Year 2021 and that includes off loading it never mind using it. I'd offer some for sale on here but think most members can equal or even surpass my stash. :'(
-
I definitely feel behind. I have so much stash I think it might bust me! :S

I've dismantled the thing I tried to make my fabric into before Christmas, so I at least have flat fabric. I haven't checked whether I have enough for my new plans though.
-
:'( I cut 2 more shirts, and found there was enough for a third :S I was going to return it to stash but DH said I might as well make an extra one :fish: so I have a sweatshop in my sewing room. I HATE HATE HATE making more than one of something (ok I made 5 superhero capes but they all had different initials appliqued on) humph.
-
You know 5 superheroes @Lachica ? I'm impressed. ;)
-
@Francesca Sounds like a good plan to repair, but I got to thank you for the picture and pattern number. Its one I didn't notice when it was out the first time and it would be a good summer dress.
As to being behind...I won't get to my studio until Saturday at the earliest. Got dinner here today, doctor visit for DD tomorrow, one for OH the third and I have a wholesale order to pick up that day. Everything on the third is an hour and a half away, so it's a full day.
-
Great work @Lachica, you really are off and racing! The shirt looks great - very professional with the label and all.
-
That's the first couple of yards (or metres for you younger folk) used up :)
That's a boring looking top I hear you say...
(You'd have thought she'd have ironed it at least...)
Yes, but it's to go under the bought jumper, in the second pic, that came with a white muslin undershirt (that I already widened the sleeves on, but looks a bit too fancy for everyday wear), and the jumper part is very thin and see through and the back is even shorter than the front, so I thought a (almost matching) blue layer underneath would work well.
I think it's ok anyway, and it's one piece less in the stash.
I actually had a nightmare with the neck binding - I though it seemed a bit long when I sewed it on, and I was right, I had a very loose, baggy, wavy neckline. So, unpicked the coverstitching (what fun, not), unpicked the overlocking (more fun, not), cut it 2 inches shorter, resewed and it'll have to do.

@Bodgeitandscarper
I like your top - particularly the pockets - what pattern is it?
It looks good under the bought jumper and I think you've done a good job with the combination.
How are the dogs ?
Best regards
Annieeg
-
@annieeg The pattern is a slightly altered Butterick 5954 - I reduce the flare/fullness of the lower back seam. The pockets are simply squares, I think about 6 inches, although maybe just slightly less. I add them to everything! I need somewhere to keep the dog treats bag 0_0
As for the :woof: s, I'll pop a couple of pics on the Puppy Thread (https://thesewingplace.org.uk/index.php/topic,5549.new.html#new) :)
-
That looks good @Bodgeitandscarper, and I like your bought jumper that goes over it.
-
The neck looks perfectly fine now and as for ironing, it can catch the next round. Well done for starting the destash, I'm not even at the start line yet.
-
... as for ironing, it can catch the next round...
There is no "next round" - I don't do ironing! The creases don't really show under the jumper and will come out in the wash 0_0
-
My first destash piece. 1.5m used.

Style Arc Debra in midblue double jersey, bought at the Knitting and Stitching Show 2017. I like polo necks, they keep my neck warm in our not that warm house.
I will go back to finishing DD's curtains before making my next piece.
-
Its great to see these completed items.
I have actually cut something out today, but that's as far as it has got.
-
That looks warm & comfy @Starryfish. I've just hemmed shirt #2, breaking for dinner now &will hopefully hem the remaining 2 and get all 6 sleeve hems done tonight. Then they'll all have to be washed to remove the soluble stabiliser on the neck facings & the mucky marks made by the iron sputtering rust water .
-
I've started trying to get the necessary pieces out of my reclaimed fabric. It's slithering all over the place, and I think I'm going to have to choose between a seam down the centre back or a separate flared (but not gathered) peplum at the back.
I'm going to have to cut out the front and see what's left because I can't get it all laid out at once. ><
-
@Francesca that would count as stash :)
-
Well that's 4 shirts finished. 5m stash used. There are subtle differences in the shirts: one has cuffs. One has the cuffs hemmed on the RS to make mock cuffs. The stitching of the front facing varies, one has cars, one has boats, one's Greek key and the first is honeycomb. They're going in the wash now to remove soluble stabiliser and blue pen marks for notches.

... I think I'm going to have to choose between a seam down the centre back or a separate flared (but not gathered) peplum at the back.
That decision became a lot easier when I realised that my pattern has a seam up the centre back!! (I usually cut it on the fold because I don't need the zip that the seam accommodates.) :D
Main body pieces are now cut out. Sleeves can be cut according to the cloth!
-
Woo! everyone is so busy!
I'm still working on a piece that I started last year. After that most of what I sew in January will be from stash, so hopefully in a few weeks I'll have something to share here.
-
@Lachica is this your second entry for the contest? Could you please clarify whether you make 4 shirts or 6 shirts in total?
Thank you :)
-
@Manuela one entry, 4 shirts, 5m stash used.

If I get around to the pics and stuff, would it be easier for one photo and list of fabric and meters/yards used?
-
Gosh, you're all so quick offthe mark!
I'm planning to sew this: https://sewdifferent.co.uk/scoop-pinafore-multisize-sewing-pattern/
I have several pieces of denim to choose from. Hopefully will cut out either this evening or tomorrow.
-

@Lachica , be careful about putting blue pen marks straight in the wash as sometimes this can leave a stain. Rinse in cold water first.
Can you sew along with this, or do you have to enter the competition?
My plan was to do 31 makes in 31 days :S, how far have I got 0/31 ><.
-
Thanks @Lyn-J this is water soluble fabric marker pen.
-
If I get around to the pics and stuff, would it be easier for one photo and list of fabric and meters/yards used?
One submission post per project including pictures and comments is fine with me. If you want to post about your progress, even better :)
Just make sure I understand what you want to see in the voting thread as your entry (or entries when you complete more than one project) ;)
-
I'm a bit confused about this now - is the aim of it to make something solely from stash or is it the amount of stash used?

The former is the aim, the latter gives you bonus points.

they can recact with soap powder to produce brown marks, I ruined a shirt like this.

I missed this bit. I think this rules me out - I vowed not to do anymore competitions that demanded bulk sewing after the 'one pattern three ways' last year!
-
@Acorn, no bulk sewing required, you’ll just get a bonus point for each yard of stash you use up :)
-
But that's the point - if I make just one item I will only use up at most 3 metres. If other people are making lots of items they're going to get so many bonus points that it won't be a competition unless I do sew in bulk.
Presumably this also means that it will be one entry per person rather than per item - so, again, making one item isn't really going to cut it.
-

But even if you don't win or even get many points it will have given you the incentive to do a bit of stash busting.
-
Not really - the thing I'm about to make just happens to be from my stash (in fact I intended to make it before Christmas). Anything else I make in January may or may not be from my stash - I don't want to start making things I don't particularly want just because I've had the fabric for a while.
I wouldn't expect to win for a minute, given the competition, but I can't see the point in entering a competition if there's no chance to start with - however, that is just me. Clearly others are eager to make serious inroads into their stashes, and that's great. The only reason I said anything was to explain why, having thrown my hat into the ring, I'm taking it back out.
-
@Acorn I made 4 shirts because 3 were on my to do list and they're needed for February. I managed to squeeze a 4th out of the fabric. I think a point is awarded for each metre used and I've only used 5m. I'd have made them anyway, it just so happened that this contest came along. If it's upsetting others I'll happily withdraw my entry. I don't usually enter contests because I'm really not competitive. My understanding is that it's a bit of fun to encourage us all to use stash, something I certainly need to do. (In fact I could do with using the bulky fabrics first, but that would mean measuring stash by volume)
-
Please, Lachica and anyone else - just because the competition is not for me does not mean that others shouldn't go ahead and enjoy it. Clearly it was intended as a large stash-busting exercise from the start, since the rules do talk about bonuses for using lots of fabric. I missed that - my mistake.
You are entering into the spirit of the contest as it is laid down in the rules.
-
But you can still enter @Acorn, we all enjoy seeing what others make.
-
@Manuela Could the points for yardage used be a sort of separate competition? Just for the glory? And this competition be about the items themselves.
-
But you can still enter @Acorn, we all enjoy seeing what others make.
I will put it onto my diary thread - unless it comes out badly!
-
Yeah I think there are some of us who know we're never contenders to win but just like to join in for the fun of it.
It really has to be for fun and sharing the experience as there are so many variables like ease or difficulty of the pattern and how quickly each of us works.
-
I'm going to join in just to make sure I do something.
-
I'm almost finished with a bib for my youngest grandsweetie who is a drooler. I did the faux chenille technique which I never got around to trying back when it was so popular. I used four layers of a flannel sheet we had for a smaller bed and one layer from some fabric from my eldest (15 years old) grandsweetie's nursery. I don't save everything. Not me. What can I say, I was influenced by my grandma who went through the depression. I'll post a pic when it comes out of the wash and gets its snap. I need to make some more bibs, but I think these will be plain ones. Those channels on the chenille are a pain to sew and a bigger pain (a literal one) to cut.
-
@toileandtrouble Ditto. I’m joining in just for the motivation to use up some fabric and sew something! I don’t enter many of these, but I like looking at what others have made and enjoy casting my vote at the end :)
-
This afternoon I cut this Threadcount pattern. I think @SewRuthieSews made it recently, which reminded me. I liked hers & hope I'll like mine. 2m used, yay! I'm on a roll now but sewing will stop next week when we're back to normal with childminding duties for GS and trips up the motorway to babysit GD. I had to take 5 cm out of the sleeve length since I don't have gorilla length arms but also had to add width at the biceps. I've not done fabric origami before, it's challenging my brain cell but I think I have the front correct so the rest will be easy.
-
But that's the point - if I make just one item I will only use up at most 3 metres. If other people are making lots of items they're going to get so many bonus points that it won't be a competition unless I do sew in bulk.
Presumably this also means that it will be one entry per person rather than per item - so, again, making one item isn't really going to cut it.
As in previous contests, it will be several entries per person. I apologise if that wasn’t clear, I put in in the first post though :)
-
@Manuela Could the points for yardage used be a sort of separate competition? Just for the glory? And this competition be about the items themselves?
Now there is a good idea
I like that a lot. Thank you @Bodgeitandscarper. At the end there will be two winners, the biggest destasher (using maths) and the best destasher (by vote).
-
Just popping in from the Darkside to say I loooove that top @Lachica .....
-
I like that new idea of a dual competition - we seemed to be falling into two camps and that caters for both. Most of my stash is vintage and furnishing fabrics and I keep it for future use - it isn't necessarily for "using up". I did think I might use some of it for the House Beautiful competition though.
-

Thanks - I couldn't see how that could work with the bonus points for stash used (which entry would it be added to?) but it seems that that problem has been resolved now. :)

2nd entry.
Finished it! After much frustration with the coverlocker, the looper thread kept breaking. Note to self: cheap thread is a waste of money. The pattern says it's suitable for a beginner. I think a beginner would be frustrated with the finish. I overlocked a neck band on & coverstitched it down instead of just turning the neck. I also reinforced the shoulder seams with tape. 2.2m of stash.

@Acorn, no bulk sewing required, you’ll just get a bonus point for each yard of stash you use up :)
Do you get an extra bit of a point wise if you use metres. ;)
I am currently sorting out my stash as The Diva has requested a new wardrobe :S But like @Acorn not sure if I will enter 'cos it feels like a "sew as much as you can" in a short time. Even if I get 1/2 dozen dresses done for her it will only be approx. 8 metres.
We will see.
-
@sewmuchmore for me this came in a time when I needed clothes and have the time to do so, so while it seems like I am sewing as much as I can...I have no life and spend my time while my daughter is in school in my studio.
Everything is also stash simply because I am lazy and all the fabric over the last 6 months isn't put up or inventoried properly and therefore I don't use it; my system works for me and messing with it makes it harder to get back into. We also hit a point where I need to get a dumpster to get rid of some stuff that was there when I bought the place, so my annual inventory is being put off for a couple months so I can move other things in. All rather boring but it makes it look like sew as much as you can on my end.
TL;DR: I appear to be sew as much as you can due to my own weird ocd tendencies and laziness of keeping up with my system.
-

@sewmuchmore It's been changed to two competitions now, one for yardage (meterage?) used and the other is a vote for the items made.
I'm just thinking, as a fat lass, it's easier for me to use up the yards as I need more :S :o 0_0

SewRuthieSews First Entry - Teal tweedy cardigan based on New Look 6416 - used 2 metres of fabric
(https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8LPcZD7PPd8/XDEmBMfAqoI/AAAAAAAAL4s/XSf9CJ8PxdwOXR0MQgzxxbISc91plZ_owCLcBGAs/s320/NL6416TealTweed1.JPG) (https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-T4u2mJKaAt4/XCyD1rlmkHI/AAAAAAAAL2I/lywO1njGBfUe47HdpPtNQH_SsKzuxIdzwCLcBGAs/s320/nl6416.png)
I only had 2 metres of this fabric, so had to do a bit of pattern tetris to cut it out.
I ended up with size Large, slightly shorter (5cm) than the mid length, with a belt, but without the patch pockets or a facing. The sleeves were cut on the cross grain.
I overlocked all the raw outer edges, rolled twice and stitched for a reasonably nice finish without the facing. I did a 6cm hem on the sleeves.
I omitted any pockets as the fabric has a very open weave and I felt they would pull.
The fabric had two good sides, so I played with using the one with more white threads on the sleeves, belt and showing when the collar folds open, with the plainer side for the body and belt loops. It's subtle but I like it.

I'm not doing very well, I'm adding to rather than subtracting from the stash. :S
Not only did the postie bring three lengths from Minerva, some plain lycra to make a dummy top cover and a lovely piece of black/blue/purple jersey for a top, but also some rather strange animal devore print with slashes all over it. Methinks that will become long term stash :o. I also bought 3m of pink cotton at craft club for £1 (someone else's stash) that will make a nice summer dress and I'm expecting a parcel from Fran. 0_0

I <3 <3 <3 that dress @Efemera . What pattern did you use? (Or have you told us? I may have missed it).
You remember those enormously voluminous origami coat patterns that Issey Miyake did a few years ago? As they use up about 5m a pop a few of those would make a fair old dent in the stash
-
It’s a bodged version of a KnipMode magazine pattern but I reckon it would be an easy one to draft.its a basic bodice chopped just under the bust line.
This is the shape of the bottom pieces.if you want a high low hem then cut one main skirt piece on the red line

-
Thank you @Efemera . I have that Knipmode pattern as I bought a trial subscription for 3 issues last year so I'll have to look it out.
You guys are galloping ahead with your entries. I have to finish off a non-stash shirt before I get onto the stash busting.
-
Oh my, lovely work everyone! I'll have to get cracking :D
-
@BrendaP I wouldn't beat yourself up over it. I usually say no fabric and have a spectacular year of fabric choices and buying.
I've been really good this year. Sure! *slides box of fabric under table with foot*
-
@Efemera love the fabric that you made the tunic in, can you remember were it was from?
I did make a top yesterday using a panel print I have had for about 8 months but wouldn't you just know it the battery's in the camera are dead. Once I have replaced will post picture. I have also cut out The Divas 1st dress, a simple shift from some faux leather that has been lurking under my sewing table for a t least 10 years.

ENTRY NO 1 (taken out of 3m)
I don't think is in any way an award-winning garment, but to add to the numbers, here it is! I needed a new dressing gown for my up-coming hospital stay and I had this fabric which I bought from @Francesca back in April(?) without any clear purpose in mind. The pattern is rehashed from Kwik Sew 3209. It comes with a hood or a funny neckband which I didn't like, so I replaced the hood with a facing. This, however made the neckline too high for me so I had to chop off the top of the zip to lower it. It now has a self-bound edge so that I could enclose the raw edges of the zip. It has in-seam pockets which are most unflattering to my shape but you can't carry anything when on crutches so I shall need them! I have bit of fabric left which might be enough for a top, we shall see.

Entry 3: leggings, stash used 1m
Well it's only busted a smidge over 1m of a lovely thick navy jersey which has been in stash at least 6 months, probably more. Not very exciting, a pair of leggings to my pattern, last used 2015. Ran up really quickly, didn't bother trying on during the process

A Maria Denmark Just a Tank in cotton jersey. I wear these as PJ tops. Not very exciting but it will go with my blue patterned PJ bottoms.
I cut out a coatigan this afternoon and the lining part of the Vogue high neck blouse. I need to check that it won't choke me before cutting out the good fabric, I have a feeling it needs to be about 2.5cm looser.

@sewmuchmore lovely dresses and really nice use of that embelished tartan fabric (I have some but no idea what to do with it!)
-
Well, I finally finished it!
This is a much-adapted Lekala pattern with Style Arc Harlow sleeves, which fits me so beautifully I could cry! The fabric is a gorgeous medium to lightweight crepe that I bought from Fran's stash last April, so it is a double stash-buster.
I initially made the fabric into a Style Arc Faith before Christmas, which didn't work at all well. Then I pressed it and melted the front seam, so I dismantled it and turned it back into fabric. I managed by the skin of my teeth to get the new pattern out of what I had to use. I had to put the seam down the centre back in (it's on the pattern, but I usually leave it out) and added a little shaping there just because I had the opportunity. I did all the hemming by hand - long curved hems on crepe. You can imagine what fun that was, but machining it would have looked terrible.
Lekala pattern - shortened, given a bit more flounce, neckline changed so no separate yoke. The only reason I used this pattern was because it fits me so wonderfully and is incredibly adaptable:
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Style Arc Harlow - I just used the sleeves, but you'd think this was the whole pattern:
The finished top. It's a much nicer colour than my camera has made it - proper French navy background, and lovely colours on the birds:

@Acorn - that is beautiful! I love the fabric and although the sleeves wouldn't suit me they look wonderful on that!
-
We’re only just in the middle of January and have already 16 entries.... <3
-
Yes I'm glad to hear that stashes are being busted even if it isn't my stash. I'm a bit late to the party.
As usual I'm trying to fit a pattern onto not quite enough fabric. The pattern says 3.6m of 150cm fabric. I have 3.08m of 137cm wide fabric so we'll see!
-
Entry#4 1/2m
Not exactly busting that stash - barely half a metre- but I've had this white cotton jersey forever and the request for a white long sleeve T shirt for GD to wear to a superhero party reminded me it really is lovely quality, maybe I could dye it and make another top for me.
Complete with red cuffs and belt to match the cape. Buckle made from foam with foil applied. I'm gettingting lots of use from the foiling kit. Shirt buttons are also foiled, I'll tell DD to cut them off before washing but bet she'll forget.

Number 4..
Marcy Tilton 9332
Not sure if the high low hem and the square set in sleeves are worth the effort but I love the pockets.

Very nice @Efemera. That's unusual fabric but it works well with that pattern.

Entry#5 2m tulle
Easy knotted tutu for fancy dress. Used the last of the ?200m? of tulle that was used to make swags for DDs wedding. I didn't have all of it in my stash, probably only 20m or so as most was used by a friend. DD and SIL were living in Shanghai at the time &bought it at the fabric market there.

Its so annoying when you can't find fabric you are sure you have. I have some I want to use for a blouse but cannot find.
I had a clearout late last year so sometimes wonder if it has fallen down behind something in the cupboard or I donated it.
I have no record these days of what I have, so it is like a magical mystery tour whenever I go looking.
-
@Francesca, as you can’t make anything else from it, count the recommended amount :)
-
Entry#5 1.5m ish to make 4 toybags
I made a small one for dolls' bits n bobs to use up the fabric I bought for the doll's changing bag. DD requested more. GD had a wooden train set for Christmas so the large bag on the right is for that. This one is lined with a pillow case to conceal the back of the embroidery. All made with pieces I was hoarding as 'too big to throw, might come in handy'. The elephant one is pieced from several small bits, pattern matched of course. They all have drawcords made from stashed bits of silky cord. The bases are from DH's favourite black Levi's, which had holes in the knees. Wonder how long before he realises? I'm loving this challenge!

SewRuthie Sews Entry #3 Teal print Kinder cardigan (with hand embellishment) - 2 metres of fabric used
(https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_JsvPtvvUxo/XD5LPGIIh_I/AAAAAAAAL8A/3P4HHPah3TI0-pilSSxurLoJZdyexrgcgCLcBGAs/s320/CardiforBee1%2B%25282%2529.JPG)
Kinder cardigan in fabric I've had for just over 10 years.
I bought the fabric for this on 25th October 2008 from Washable Fabrics on Preston market when four of us had a bit of a PR weekend away. It's moved house 4 times with me over those 10+ years but is finally getting made up!
I've used the Kinder cardigan in the mid length with full length sleeves. I've added in seam pockets, a belt and belt loops. I tried to place the print sensibly by cutting the pieces out single layer. I've also added some hand detailing in the upper body one side. I ironed some very lightweight interfacing on to the back of the upper front area to give a little more stability for the handwork without changing the drape of the fabric too much.

That is superb. @SewRuthieSews , the beading & embroidery lifts the colours.
-
That’s lovely @SewRuthieSews, odd name for the pattern... Kinder is German for children.
-
@Manuela yes I noticed that. However its from a book called "A Beginner’s Guide To Sewing With Knitted Fabrics" by Wendy Ward. I believe she's originally from Sheffield and loves the Peak District so she's called the garments in the book after various local places.
The Kinder Cardigan is named after Kinder Scout, the highest point in the Peak District and the site of the “mass trespass” of 1932 which was a co-ordinated mass protest of wilful trespassing on the open country of Kinder Scout which was then not open to public access. It was undertaken by approx. 400 ramblers to highlight the fact that these open areas of natural beauty were inaccessible for walking by the public.
Kinder Scout is fairly local to me and I enjoyed that local connection to a sewing pattern.
The other patterns in the book are also named after the Peak district in various forms. Familiar to people who love rambling in the Peak District.
There are also
Derwent trousers - either the River Derwent or the drowned village of Derwent in the Ladybower reservoir.

Ha! Thanks for that @SewRuthieSews. I bought that book specifically for the cardigan pattern but I'd no idea about the pattern names.
I do like a bit of background trivia. 0_0
-
I bought the book for the cardigan too, but will hopefully sew up some of the other patterns in future. I don't expect to do that funky skirt though as its unlikely to flatter my body shape.
I really love that the patterns are named after places fairly local to me. I live just a few miles outside of the eastern edge of the Peak District National Park and have enjoyed walking in many of the locations.
-
Thank you for the interesting background information @SewRuthieSews.
So far we have 21 entries - this must be already some sort of record 0_0

Number 5.. anther Marcy Tilton V9300
I added a pocket to the left front, the front fold detail is a little lost, probably because I’ve made a fat size and a very patterned fabric from Abakhan.

@Efemera you've found some interesting fabrics there, they'll be very useful.
-
@Efemera Great tops! I really, really love that grey and yellow - don't suppose you've got any left over you'd like to sell?? I checked Abakhan's website and they don't have it :(
-
Sorry @Bodgeitandscarper it was from the remnant bin.. the woolly knit stuff is really cheap as it’s sold by weight and it weighs almost nothing...I’m planning another trip to Preston in the not too distant future.
-
I do miss Abakhan's remnants! If you do see any more, @Efemera , would you be wiling to buy and post it to me? Please say no if it's a problem for you, I'm being really cheeky asking I know! Although I doubt they'll have the same thing again :(
-
When I go I’ll have a look...
-
What a super productive bunch! All these items are looking wonderful - way to go everyone.

I'm making a blouse in a sheer viscose voile underlined with a silk cotton, and I thought it would slide about but it is being very well behaved. I did baste the main pieces together instead of relying on pins. I'm going to make the sleeves with no underlining as I'm not worried about showing my arms. It should be finished in a day or so. I also have some navy silk chiffon to turn into another blouse, which may not be so cooperative.
-
Wow, what wonderful things are being made here!
I've two pair of leggings on the go, using about 3m of lycra cotton jersey that I have had in my stash for at least 18 months. and this weekend I cut out a coat, 3.5m (2 years) of coating and 3m (4 years) lining. Just a tad worried I might be creating UFOs. Now to get on with the marking.
-
Good luck with the coat Lyn. I quie enjoyed mine once I got going with it.
I have stopped cutting out ahead more than 1 extra project because I just end up in a mess, hopefully you have more focus and discipline than me!
I have 2 things where I have cut out some bits of a garment and need to cut the rest out of something else and so am dilly dallying. One is a top which needs a back and sleeves, the other a skirt which needs pockets and lining. Need to try to get motivated on it I suppose.
-
I've finished item 4, a Vogue 9285 blouse. It used 2.5m of voile plus underlining.

I'm quite pleased with this, it will go with my smart trousers and jackets.

Entry #6 : only 0.25 m this time! superhero cape & belt for 6 week old GS for a party end of January. He's a long baby so his 0-3 month definitely won't fit in 2 weeks' tine. I now need to find a yellow babygro age 3 month+ and stitch on Velcro dots to attach cape and belt.

@Efemera, it would help me enormously if you could keep track of you number of projects, this one is your number 8. Please understand that it is very time consuming to keep track of every entry, modifying the posts so the pictures turn up in the text.
There are currently 30 entries to the contest, so it helps when they are clearly labeled. Thank you and apologies if I overlooked one.
-
In trouble again!..... :ninja:
-
Just catching up with all your entries, all wonderful. I am afraid, what with one thing and another, I have way behind. I am hoping to re-discover my sewing room sometime in the next couple of days.
-
There are so many wonderful entries! Voting is going to be difficult
I still want to try to get my habit made for this contest, not sure it's possible with the time left though! I'm going to attempt the skirt first because it should be fairly quick, the jacket might be slightly longer (each piece needs cutting 3x) and I'm still unsure of which size to cut as I've never made a bodice from this era before - it's fitted over a corset so I think minimal ease, but then again it's also designed to ride in so I'll need quite a lot of freedom of movement. And it's a modern pattern so it has masses of ease built in, even though in the illustrations it's definitely over a corset and very fitted.

Style Arc Lorena coatigan in thick wool knit. It needs a thorough press!
-
Entries #6 and #7. 0.4m and 0.4m used. Scroop Wonderunder camis in navy and cream slinky jersey. I need more practice in attaching FOE obviously, but they look better on me, and will never be seen in public.
I will cut out a Lekala blouse this pm ,and hope to get it finished by 31st. My boxes look a bit emptier, but some more fabric arrived this morning. :*

@Starryfish - I love your coatigan. Do you see any reason it wouldn't work with a lining and buttons? I have some wool and lining that really need to be made up into a coat!
-
@Acorn , it would definitely work with a lining. The facing is a perfectly normal shape, so all you need is to draft a lining front and you are away. Buttons would work as well, there is an overlap.
-
Thank you - I think it's just what I want. I might wait and see what the Style Arc free offers are for February and get it then!

TnT Entry No 1
Short sleeved t-shirt
Pattern is Kwiksew 3915
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
This is a remnant of brown velour. Only 1m so took a bit of fiddling to make it work. FBA with dart on the sides. Shortened it slightly and cut the front neck facing lengthways. It does help stabilise it. The ruching on the neck doesn't show up too well but makes a bit of interest.
1m from stash. Have to start somewhere!
-
TnT entry No 2
Another t-shirt from the same pattern but omitting the ruching. Neckline raised slightly and band of contrast around the neck.
37.5" of multi-striped jersey. Slightly on the small side, but just enough with a bit of ingenuity. Shorter than pattern again but FBA without a dart, the jersey is quite accommodating. Had to piece both sleeves but the stripes easy to match up down the outsides. 2.5" off another length of jersey to make the neckband =40" = 1m

2m gone from stash
Tried to put them both in one post, but inserting the second picture overwrote the first one so there were two the same. Going off technology.

When you've added one attachment you must click on 'more attachments' to add another one. If you just click on 'browse' again it will overwrite the first one.

TnT Entry No 3
Fell at the last hurdle. Given up at 11.30pm, just got to lock up etc and off to bed. Still have centre back hem to finish and sew down lining. I have 4 buttons covered, not sewn on and no buttonholes. We had visitors again on Saturday afternoon - we never have visitors! Anyhow, it has achieved its objective, another 5m out of stash (top fabric, underlining and lining) and (almost) my jacket done. Well done everyone.
And this is where I got to

I don't really have a "stash" as such in that I don't tend to buy fabric pre-emptively, I just get it for immediate purposes. I do have a box of off-cuts left over from previous things though. And I'd been planning for ages to make a tailor's ham and sleeve roll with some leftovers, but I hadn't got round to it. So thanks to this challenge for bumping me into actually getting around to doing it last night!

De-stashed length (drumroll please)...
...12". 0_0

But jolly useful!

I tried this in Google translate but I'm afraid it doesn't make sense in any language! 0_0
Great use of leftovers. :loveit:

Finally got round to putting batteries in camera so here is entry 5. We have been invited to another family wedding in June so thought I would get ahead and make a dress. The fabric is about 6 years old and left over from a skirt I wore to the last family wedding I went to. Hope nobody remembers the fabric. It is really curtaining fabric but who cares, it will probably only be worn the once. Just hoping the venue doesn't have the curtains 0_0
It is lined, so with the little bag/brooches, fabric used was 3 3/4 metres.
Amended, sorry forgot to put total fabric used to date = 9 3/4
I have also made another dress for the Diva but still waiting for snaps to arrive. Can I submit without?

That's embroidered isn't it? I got a length on a coppery gold background, just waiting to be bold enough to wear it, but I love it. It does need an 'event'. The pink is pretty.
-
@sewmuchmore that is beautiful. I like the embellishments on the bag too.

I managed to make 2 pairs of leggings within the time limit, no photos though. This thread spurred my sewing along, Can we carry on after the contest, or merge it with the UFOs?
