As suggested by DementedFairy, we will be taking inspiration from Japan with its rich cultural heritage in art and fashion. Inspiration and ideas will be presented to help you choose a project, whether it be a quilt inspired by Japanese flora and fauna, or an inventive dress or top from one of the amazing Japanese pattern books with their origami-like shapes and complex techniques, or maybe just a garment for you using a popular Japanese style fabric print.
Pick My Project
Starts in July/August
Not quite sure what to sew? You've been umming and ahhing over a few different projects but you just can't decide! In this competition, you'll present a couple of pattern and fabric combinations to your fellow forumites who will then put their word in on what you should sew. After you've got your verdict, you'll sew the garments over one month. A perfect chance to "push" yourself to pick up something you can't get started with.
Face your Phobias
Starts in August/September
Tell us your phobia and get help from the forum in tackling the project. Whether it be buttonholes, collars, free motion embroidery, or sewing with a particular fabric, this is your chance to get on with it once and for all!
Winter Glitz
Starts in October
Prepping for Christmas parties, New Year's Eve and more with this formal/glitzy/fancy outfit competition. Sew a garment worthy of a festive fiesta!

You can just locate the relevant thread and get started! So far we only have threads for the first three sewalongs on the calendar.

Oh, I like the look of these!
I'm interested in the Japanese one and maybe the white one too. Hope I'm not too busy with my ordinary work stuff to sew instead.

I sorta narrowed it down to one country rather than just globally inspired as I thought that would make it a bit more cohesive.
