Title: Knitting pattern instruction confusion
Post by: annieeg on April 05, 2021, 16:22:53 PM
 :rant:
I can't understand the instructions on a pattern - it says;  *k2, [p2, k2] twice; rep from *
If I do that twice is it 10 stitches or 12 stitches?
help please !!!

I would read that as 10 stitches
K2  P2 K2 P2 K2. = 10 stitches then repeat.

That will mean 4 knit stitches together between repeats.  Is that how you think it is supposed to be?

thank you @Ploshkin I think that is correct.  I just got myself really confused.  This is a slightly complicated pattern and I think I need to edit the repeat elements so its clearer.  You repeat on some rows and not others, which is why its difficult to get into a routine with it.
Maybe I should move to Wales and keep lambs/sheep and my brain might start working again .... :laughing:

I think it’s 10 too.

@annieeg the multiplier ( twice) always refers to the bit in brackets.
I usually 'rewrite' patterns in my head to make something I can remember easily.
For example, here I would do K2, then it would be (P2 K2 P2 k4) over and over until the last few stitches. Sounds as if you do the same.  Why are we forgetting things we have done for years?  Is this another 'Idunno' virus?

@toileandtrouble
Since I stopped working (more than a yr ago), my brain does not work as quickly as it used to.  It's quite scary really.  I can't concentrate as much which
is why I wanted to try knitting again as if the pattern is a little complicated it does require thinking about.   :facepalm:
