Embroidery Machines / Re: FREE Digitising software available to download.
« on: December 02, 2019, 15:52:19 PM »
@SewRuthieSews if you don't have an embroidery software program, you can go to the Embroidery Library website, click on any project / tutorial and you will be able to download a free version of Wilcoms Truesizer. This is a very basic package, but it allows you to preview your 'saved' designs on your computer, as well as see how they will stitch out, you can also resize them, if you needed to and print off templates to help with placement as well..... ;)

Thought I'd add the link to the free site here....better than searching for ages on Embroidery Library website

I downloaded the desktop version as this allows 'previews' of your designs in windows

The Haberdashery / Re: Ernest Wright scissors in Production again.
« on: March 12, 2019, 04:25:31 AM »
LONG POST ALERT  |O

As some of you know, I purchased a pair of 10 inch side bent scissors about four years ago, from Ernest Wright. I've only used them twice/ three times during this time however, as they have always been very stiff to open and close after cutting into any fabric 'a few times'.  So not really wanting to make a fuss and knowing all the troubles and past problems Ernest Wright has had, I decided to put them aside and 'forgot about them', thinking in time with maybe the 'occasional use' they would 'loosen up', however each time I used them, the same problem ensued - after a few cuts, the scissors just became to stiff to use ....so over time my scissors simply became 'forgotten'...  :'(

Anyway, this week I had tidy up in my sewing space and I discovered these beautiful engineered scissors again and decided to give them another try at cutting fabric.....however, sadly again the same problem occurred.  Then I remembered I'd received an email a few weeks ago, from Ernest Wright saying they were now back in business again. So not knowing what to expect, I decided to contact Ernest Wright regarding my problem....and Paul, whom I have been chatting to regularly, replied promptly and with upmost professionalism every time, he suggested I return the scissors  for a further examination, either by post or in person, as it seemed something definitely wasn't right.....and after arranging  with him beforehand, that is what I and my hubby have done today and made the trip to Sheffield.

I met Pam, a lovely lady who clearly has Ernest Wrights best interests at heart and again was very pleasant and happy to see that my scissors were put right. I have to say, after trying out my scissors for herself, Pam wasted no time in agreeing with me, 'something wasn't right with my scissors' and set off to bring in Cliff who also 'assessed the scissors'.

So, whilst Pam, myself and my hubby chatted, together.... Cliff, opened and closed my scissors, gave them a once over, with his expert eye..... and then with a 'look on his face, that only a man with the many years of experience and knowledge that Cliff has'.....he disappeared.. and brought in Peter, who both immediately began to discuss the scissors ... (Peter is another lovely man and is part of the team that make up the new owners of Ernest Wright), Peter is learning 'the ropes' from 'Cliff) and both men today proved to me, that  they both 'clearly know their stuff'' and whilst Cliff is truly one of the best in his trade, Peter is learning the trade from Cliff, very well. They both went off and returned a while later, handed me my scissors and said to me, 'try these again'..... My scissors are now the best they have ever been and cut as precisely as they ever did before, but the action of opening and closing is so much smoother and fluent.

The problem Cliff told me, was that they had been fitted originally with two holding springs, .....Cliff removed one and reshaped the edge, making adjustments as he found necessary..... they are now absolutely perfect and a joy to use, once more I look forward to many years of use with them.

So, if you are thinking of buying a pair of Ernest Wright scissors, be assured that you really are getting the best in hand made precision and if like me, you do happen to find a problem with your scissors, be also assured that Ernest Wright will do their best to put things right., with no qualms or quarrels....

@Nuttywife59 ...only just noticed this reply....Ive not been around on.here much due to various sewing commitments, including embroidery.... 0_0 but to answer your query, I absolutely love it....Ive used the tablet and pen to digitize a local footbal logo for a friend, it was hard work as the area on the screen of the machine, is so small, but once I got used to it...its a good tool, however following my friends advice, I have since bought PE Design 10...and oh boy, its a bit over my head...but using youtube and no doubt my friends advice, I may just get by on how to use it.... 0_0

House Beautiful / Re: This week's sewing project - blinds
« on: October 19, 2018, 11:05:19 AM »
@crafter , I used the same video to make roman blinds,too.... 0_0 Its a good video, as you say lots of hand sewing but you get a good finish from the front view too. Love the fabric you chose for your blinds and what a great window space, with a perfect solution, sectional blinds..... :)

However I now feel guilty... :(....despite making blinds for my sons house .... I have still yet to make a blind for my own kitchen, that was newly fitted almost three years ago...... :| :| Time to get on with them, me thinks... -<

Fun with Fabric / Re: Thai silk

Love the fabric, what about a lightweight, longish length spring/ summer coat......you could add a bit of color contrast on the collar/pockets to break the pattern up, if you thought it too much......

The Show Must Go On / Re: What are you all working on?

Beautiful work @eclectic, adding all those rhinestones must have been very time consuming too, no wonder your fingers hurt... :)

I'm currently working on embroidering polo shirts and hoodies for a window company....then after they are done, it's cushion time...involving unicorns, spiderman, the titanic and a football logo cushion....(thankfully not all one one cushion  0_0)...as well as making a memory cushion....and then a simple dress repair.... should keep me busy for a while... -<

Well, the wedding took place on Saturday and it really was a lovely day. The girls dresses were completed in time (just) and looked beautiful...(guests words not mine.. :| :|)....most guests didn't know I'd made the dresses, however they were soon informed, when my son did his speech and included a piece 'thanking me for making them' facing directly at me when doing so....(sadly there was no time for me to hide under the table, or I may have done so, :)...)....But there were a few gasps and wows, from people that were unaware and I do have another order for dresses from one of the guests....but definitely no 'heart shaped cutouts' are necessary... :loveit:....I've no photos as yet to show, as I left my bag with my phone in the hotel room...so I have to await the photographers pics, before I can show you all...sorry folks... :(

Oh and the day I finished the dresses, hubby took me shopping and the first dress I tried on...was the one I bought...had to alter it to fit, (as is normal for me)....but yes, @Yellowfeather and @Greybird  , it was much nicer than the first dress I missed out on too.... :loveit:

Thank you for the reassurance ladies.. ..so far it's going well and the heart on dress number two, now does look like a heart ...Phew  ! ! !....just need to sew up the side seams on the bodice and it's done, for now at least anyway, until the skirt is made.......and yes maybe fate has had a hand in the dress @Yellowfeather  and something better will turn up.... :)

@Greybird : I'm always very self conscious whatever I wear too,.... :D the downside to having a big chest in my case... 0_0 and I'm sure you looked lovely on the photos regardless, but it's nice to see them and like yourself on them too.
