Sewing Machines / Re: Janome Memory Craft 9000 embroidery cards
« on: April 16, 2019, 10:45:02 AM »
@Peaofsweetness   Just seen your other post as well and though I'd reply on here.

I hope you can get her working properly as it is a fantastic machine; the stitch quality if beautiful.  I miss mine :'(.

I think I have a couple of cards and I certainly have the original software, still in its box unused somewhere (never got round to using the embroidery part properly).  I'll have a look and see what I have and come back to you.

In the wardrobe / Re: Loose fitting jacket pattern for beginner

In one of my Burda magazines, there is a japanese influenced jacket which I've tried to find on their site, but can't.  Will dig the magazine out later and have a look at it but in the meantime, I've found the following patterns which are of a similar shape, they might need a little changing but in essence are similar.    I think I would quilt each piece of fabric first, ie a square of fabric larger than the said pattern piece, and then cut the pattern piece out of that.

What about this or this or this or this

In the wardrobe / Re: Cotton Sateen and matching mesh fabric help pls!

@Francesca I had considered that, but a) I don't think I have a pot big enough for the dress fabric and would worry about getting an even colour and b) being as the fabrics would be different composite fibres, again I'd worry about them matching.

@BrendaP that's what I'm finding.  I was just thinking last night that maybe the cotton is the best idea as it will probably crease and although underlining would help, I'm not sure what I'd used with a stretch fabric. Maybe I'll need to change to a crepe  >< ><

@Manuela  thank you, I'd found those but they are not really the right shades, too light or too blue.  I need something yellow/warm based as I'm autumn colouring (yes I've had my colours done!), plus I really  really want to wear either of these shoes that I have  0_0

Will have a look at the other sites, thank you ladies for your suggestions.

In the wardrobe / Cotton Sateen and matching mesh fabric help pls!
« on: April 15, 2019, 15:17:55 PM »
My friend is getting married end of June and I'd like to make this to wear.  I watched Pretty Little Liars with DD and one of the characters wore this dress and I've loved it since than and always intended making it.  Spotted the pattern on Lekala and the what-to-wear-to-the-wedding issue was solved!

Anyway, I have 2 different pairs of shoes that I could wear that are in similar tones so I'm looking for a stretch cotton sateen with matching coloured mesh in either teal (blue or green) or petrol blue.  Very specific I know and I may be searching for the unicorn but I'm not finding anything yet.  Any ideas peeps on where to buy or even alternative fabrics.

Thanks muchly!

@Iminei  Love those fabric choices!

No she hasn't joined.  I really don't imagine that she will continue sewing   She's only doing it as it was the easiest and cheapest skill to do! (*whispering* and besides which this MY space/place :P).

They look good... sometimes I see the vases first and sometimes the birds  -<

I could only see bells and no birds.  I can now see the birds!

And I agree, they are great.

Second Block done and this "simple" block gave quite a few lessons, not least making sure your fabric is the right way up/round when you attach it to the block.  A bit of unpicking had to be done.  Also, the thread broke and ended up nesting after re-threading the needle.  A few attempts revealed it needed to be rethreaded completely as the thread managed to escape all the fixings!

I'm making sure she keeps notes of any problems or things learned, just in case her teacher requires further evidence of her having done this.  She keeps insisting she won't be asked, but you just never know, although try telling a teen that they don't always know best is not the easiest.

I remember DD doing it.  She's not at all outdoorsy, but she loved it.

Jessie

DD came home and was desperate to do it.  She, out of all of mine, would really benefit from it as she needs to try new things and be taken out of her comfort zone.  So fingers crossed it will help her!

Gorgeous picture.  I love unusual names!

Not sure if these are of any help, but I have saved these for my "something to try one day" bucket list!

I also follow a textile artist and I'm sure she has info on how to print onto fabric.  I've done a quick search and these have come up, but I've not read them to check for appropriateness (I searched under Linda Matthews printing on fabric).

Well done for persevering......think I'd have bought a bra converter, to converter the back into a low-back cross-over bra!

I really like this.  I like a t-shirt that is a bit fancy.  Beautifully sewn.

@Peaofsweetness Don't buy this.  This is a very old machine (in terms of computerised machines) and is no longer supported.  You can't get the parts for it if it goes wrong.  I have one and her main board went and she is now defunct.  My sewing machine man advised that when he previously serviced her, (there was a problem with the stitching) advising she may not be repairable, but got her working again.  The board went a few months later and that was the end of her.  He couldn't get one anywhere.

I'd love to make one of these, but the only thing/query I have is how is it made waterproof?  I'd hate to make a fabric one, be caught in rain and have all my clothes get wet?  Or am I being thick, which is quite within the realms of possibility.

Fun with Fabric / Re: Underlining silk
« on: April 11, 2019, 10:01:36 AM »
How about silk organza?  It is a little crisper than lawn (and that would be my second choice or a cotton/silk mix).  I don't think the flanelette would work that well with the silk (it might cause too much bulk) but I would steer clear of iron-interfacing.  We don't get on well and no matter how hard I try, I end up with bubbles or it peels off.
If you were looking for a bit of extra warmth, I would consider using the flanelette with the lining.  Just quilt it to the lining (something simple such as straight lines down the length of the lining, a bit like a chanel jacket) and use as one piece of fabric.

It looks an interesting project!

That is lovely.  The colours are great together and it looks really well made!  Enjoy wearing it.
