For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Stellaire for sale
« on: September 02, 2022, 10:23:06 AM »
I keep meaning to put my Brother Stellaire XE1 up on Ebay so I am giving fair warning here if any one is interested. I'll be asking £3.5k on Ebay but a buyer via this site can have it for £2500 to save me the hastle.

Well cared for, running well, 16M stitches in 2.5 years. I'll even throw in a selection of threads, top and bottom.
I've moved on to a multi needle machine so the Stellaire is now redundant.

Shout up if you are interested.
Brian.

Collection from Birmingham or Courier at cost.

Embroidery and Embellishment / Which threads.....
« on: April 12, 2020, 15:20:04 PM »
Now that thread suppliers are shutting up shop, I am having difficulty replenishing supplies. Up to now I have used exclusively Madeira but now cannot get it. Jaycotts can still supply 200m reels of rayon, albeit slowly, but 1000m cops seem to have dried up. Both Lords and Barnyarns have pulled down the shutters so I am now looking to another manufacturer. I placed a small order with Marathon, which they dispatched the same day. Unfortunately Royal Mail are delaying that one, as they are with my latest Jaycotts order.
Has anyone experience with Marathon threads to say whether they are worth purchasing as I have a 30 cop order which I need to place somewhere very soon.
Or any suggestions for another manufacturer?

Embroidery Machines / New machine - Grrr!
« on: February 11, 2020, 19:56:37 PM »
Everytime I aquire a 'new' machine there inevitably turns out to be a fault with it that doesnt meet my standards. The result is that the 'new' machine ends up in pieces spread across my workshop bench. My NV1250 embroidery machine was the latest to succomb. It is now stitching beautifully such that my dear wife increased the stitch count by 400000 in a fortnight. As we are both approaching OAP status later this year we decided to treat ourselves. Hence the arrival of an XE1 Stellaire. My good lady excelled herself and put an equal 400000 stitches on it in just a week. Unfortunately, my record still stands, although I wasn't allowed to get my toolbox out. The machine is now winging it's way back to SMD for rectification. Not something we've done, from day 1 it has not been able to wind a bobbin. Just proves that Brothers quality control is not infallible.

Perhaps one of these days I'll have better luck?

Vintage Machines / Restoring a Jones Treadle Cabinet
« on: February 02, 2020, 17:42:33 PM »
https://thesewingplace.org.uk/index.php/topic,8910.0.html

My lovely Jones treadle machine and cabinet have now gone off to a new home. My good lady was most disappointed so I have started to refurbish it's replacement.

Just a quick polish, do you think?

Oh well, let's take it apart then.

Put the doors to pickle in paint stripper.....

Getting better.....

Much better!

I think the lid needs some attention now....

Watch this space, I'll be back soon.

Vintage Machines / Machine Wall
« on: January 20, 2020, 20:40:09 PM »
I just felt the urge to share my new machine wall with you. Shame the wall wasn't bigger so I could have put the rest up too. Still, I managed to squeeze some of my crochet in there as well.
(Yes the shelves are straight. I just needed to use a fish eye lens to fit them in the pic.)

Embroidery Machines / Innovis NV1250
« on: January 10, 2020, 21:06:29 PM »
Hi Folks. I'm planning the purchase of a Brother Innovis Nv1250. Is anyone able to persuade me not to? It will be my first dabble with embroidery. I know it's a combined sewing machine but I don't need that functionality as I already have a dozen or so sewing machines kicking about. So is the 1250 worth having just for the embroidery function?

Overlockers & Coverstitchers / Bargain Jaguar 489 Overlocker
« on: December 27, 2019, 21:17:18 PM »
In case anyone is in the market for an overlocker, I have just bagged a bargain at GUR. A Jaguar 489, normally £379 reduced to £279 with 24 threads thrown in, and a carry case bundled for an extra fiver. This is a special price for Xmas so jump if you are interested. I am well chuffed.

Vintage Machines / Overlocker?
« on: December 23, 2019, 15:10:58 PM »
My daughter is asking me to add an overlocker to my collection. Can anyone recommend a machine to match the quality of our old Singers, but without breaking the bank. I don't even know what one is so am totally lost.

Vintage Machines / An introduction to Jonesy - now rehomed.
« on: December 12, 2019, 16:39:51 PM »
I would like to introduce you to Jonesy. He is a Jones Spool machine from 1897 and has recently seen much neglect. I bought him 3 months ago, housed in an equally neglected and abused treadle cabinet. However, they have both been fully dismantled, cleaned, lubricated and loved and are now happily stitching. Not as neatly as my 99 hand crank but then that is 20 years younger. Hopefully, I can now show you some pics......

Vintage Machines / 401 Decorative Stitches
« on: December 09, 2019, 13:28:42 PM »
Just stumbled across a very useful pdf book that is a comprehensive guide to the available stitches on the 401. I've found it very useful with my playing about with my 'new' 401G.

Vintage Machines / 401G is home....
« on: November 29, 2019, 19:25:10 PM »
I've picked up an ebay purchase 401G today. A lovely machine in a broken case with no accessories or controller. Shame that wasn't mentioned in the ad. The seller was evidently embarrassed about as when I went to collect, she had gone out and left the machine in the garden. Hey ho, I've still got my monies worth....
However, as there is no manual with it, and I can't find one on Google for the G, has anyone got a pdf that they could share? Pretty please?
