Sewing Machines / Re: Pfaff Buttonholes for different machines
« on: February 09, 2021, 17:19:16 PM »
It is when you are used to it @coffeeandcake
Sometimes your fabric dictates a larger hole than specified for your button, so then easier to add a mm or  two on.

That's a good point @Gernella  :)

I've got the Pfaff QE 4.2 which has a sensormatic buttonhole foot.  It's more bother than it's worth in my opinion. It usually takes me ages to attach the cable into the machine because it's awkwardly placed and that's after measuring the diameter of a button and entering the measurement into the machine.  It's so much easier to stick a button into the back of a foot and just sew.

The Haberdashery / Re: Is Swedish tracing paper worth it?

I've gone through my Amazon account and discovered that I bought it from Amazon.com. If you search Medical exam paper roll on the .com site it's the Diagnostics Direct brand.  I definitely didn't pay for shipping though.  It's currently showing as $17.99 for the product + $48 for shipping!

I use medical exam paper for tracing, though it's definitely not like the stuff that's used on exam beds here.  It's excellent for pattern tracing.  I will try to find out where I bought it.

I like the pink jacket but am also disappointed with the one item per pack.

Sewing Machines / Re: Oiling Machines

I can only think that MO denotes Machine Oil and & 70 is the viscosity of the oil. Since sewing machines are not subject to big variations in temperature they require a monograde oil as opposed to cars etc which require a multigrade to cope with start and running temperature. (I went off on one there :\)  Looking at my sewing machine oil pot it's also recommended for use on drills  and guns. If your oil was supplied with another sewing machine @Acorn I'm pretty certain that it will be MO70 if it came from a SM dealer.
As an aside, when I bought my Brother V3; which doesn't require oil I was given some useful info by the dealer regarding servicing.  He told me that some people get their V3s serviced religiously every year regardless of the amount of use, while other people just leave it until they get problems. He said that the needle bar on the V3 is actually hollow and if I put the tiniest smidgeon of oil on it that will be helpful to the running.  Service engineers use a light paste on the needle bar (which DH will no doubt have)

Are you looking for a specific model? Is that the right word even - my brain isn't functioning too well atm.

A Good Yarn / Re: Who will get their knitting machine out?
« on: January 26, 2021, 13:45:45 PM »
Haha!  I read all about the machine knitting that you post on here and just yesterday I was thinking that I should do some.  Unfortunately I sold my pretty much unused machine a few years ago to help fund my other habit.  It had followed us overseas and through many house moves and was relegated to various loft spaces over the years.  I suppose I'll have to stick to knitting needles for a while longer. (unless I see an amazingly good deal - off for a google :))

Embroidery Machines / Re: Three ladies

I love that :D
I was expecting the stitch count to be higher and stitch out time to be longer.
I wonder whether I might be able to find a design with four young ladies for each of my daughters 0_0

You'll need to find the bust apex of the recipient, draw a box around the dart and move it accordingly. I've made a few iterations of this top as a way of trying out different techniques. As I have to do quite a large FBA I really had to play around with my first one because I found the fit to be pretty awful.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Re: Advent Advent-ure

Try some tissue paper underneath (or greaseproof paper) to help get the stitching started - that's what I do for silk etc. You can try on the top of the fabric if that works better and it can be torn away.
Pretty Woman for the movie, but no KitKat required, thank you :)

Wow, that's a great price. The listing doesn't show the number of stitches it has done but I would suspect that it won't have done very many since it's hardly been used. A bargain :D
