Could be a mug rug or place mat (or set of MR's /PM's) if you want ...
What is a Mug Rug (https://thepatchsmith.blogspot.com/2012/11/what-is-mug-rug.html)
I'm not sure about joining in with this - I'd feel terrible if I'd sent someone a coaster/mug rug but got a set of place mats in return.
I want to join in but Iminei can we make it clear that people should only expect 1 mug rug in swap? It just seems unfair otherwise.
(By the way, I've decided I'm in on this swap and happy to post internationally.)
I'm in....I just hope I am up to scratch!!! Will do my very best... :)
Not having done this sort of thing before, do you know who you will be crafting for, in advance, or do you just make it and get told just before posting date?
Thank you Low and does your twopenn'th include joining in ????
I think I would like to join but I am not really a quilter and am worried the finish will not be good enough and someone might be disappointed.I wouldn’t worry about the finish, I’m sure it would be fine. if you enjoy making it and taking part then that’s all that counts.
Will we know who we are making for? Can we ask about size or colour preferences?
And, I also think Lowena should join in, if I'm allowed to since this is the first thing I'll have joined in. :)
and until I receive all your addresses peeps can still sign up .. says she looking Manhattenwards !
@Sara-S
OK, I’m in. Once it is made, what do I do next?
She looked through her stash of suitable fabric likely from the U.S. years ago....there's an autumnal slightly sparkly fat quarter....hmmmmm....now someone mentioned toadstools...yep....have a die for toadstools....cut out in felt and hand stitched on a 'pillowcase'.....there would be no binding....now what is this stuff that goes in the middle....some kind of wadding I don't have....but I do have simple wadding, somewhere.......so I guess Imi and WAW have press ganged me into signing up.....
Hurrah!
@wrenkins Binding on small makes is notoriously difficult (well I find it so) so Im turning mine out, slip-stitching them closed and then adding a row of stitching 1/4" from the edge.
Augh - golly gee - what fun this is...not.....I have not a clue how to add wadding to anything so mine is going to be a bit of a disaster....however I have just to 'invisibly' stitch the open end together and then embellish however leaving room for a mug and a slab of cake!!
Take your time, ladies....no rush.
I'm still at the thinking-about-it stage and I don't want to feel like I'm the only one who hasn't started yet.
Sandra.

0_0 I haven't the faintest idea what I'm going to do yet, but I have a selection of suitable fabrics put to one side, and a heap of ideas on pinterest. -<It's great @Sandra. I made a thing and put all the 'scraps' to one side for the bin but I realised they were quite usable so I sewed them all together too. It takes about two minutes in TSP time (about 1/2 an hour in real life!).
I even have a real, live book sat next to me with other ideas in it. 8)
I'm terrified about who I'll be paired with. Might not look who it is until I've made the mug rug, otherwise I'll over-think it even further.
I love how many people have joined in on this one. :)

the problem is finding the sewing room under all the office/summer rubbish
That's 24 peeps in all (If Im counting correctly) and if @Bodgeitandscarper and @sewingj really dont want to join in ...
Yes Im in there .... Oh Yes .... Some of you girls will be on the receiving end of incoming
Looks like we all better make two - one for our swap partner and one for Iminei.
@Lisalou1965 I think we've just been speaking on FB....... Remember......Mum's the word :ninja:
That is beautiful....sadly mine is nothing like that.....but it's parcelled up and ready for posting to Bogwoppit.
Do you use high loft or low loft fusible batting for the mug mats?
Is it too soon to post our mug rugs? Mines done and ready to wing its way to the intendedvictimrecipient.
@Efemera it's already arrived? :o I posted it on Monday and hoped or would arrive this week -< I didn't expect it to be that fast! ><
Hopefully you are not too disappointed ;)
And you like chocolate, don't you?
It’s lovely..and the chocolate didn’t last long! :D
I am panicking, all these people who have finished their Mug Rugs, I am only just starting, the first one has been shelved as not right, I think I could write a comedy sketch about what went wrong if I could stop crying :(. so I will be on mark2 this weekend I hope.
Don't worry @Celia - I'm still working on mine. I had to scrap my first one too as it just didn't look right. :\I have no doubt it will be lovely (and have fewer mistakes than mine.)
Well after seeing Sakars one. It's gorgeous...
Ladies, ladies, ladies ....
Stop Panicking!
Keep Calm and sew on ... This is meant to be fun and easy!
And remember you can bring your favourite technique to this swap.... or learn a new one!
I know ... its all gone a bit t**ts up ... I'm afraid!!!Herding cats? ;)
I have purposely not posted mine yet but will post in time to be opened just before the equinox! If I receive mine early I will not open until 22nd or 23rd.
I am so happy to be making one for somebody else I still forget that I will receive one! :S :vintage:
Yes lets wait until Sunday to post pics ... everybody's should have arrived by then
What do you think Girls ???
I see all these lovely fabrics peeps get and wonder where they find them. I seem to struggle finding unusual fabrics. :snip: :vintage:
I received the most beautiful autumnal decorated envelope yesterday. Thank you Hernibs, that alone must have taken you ages!
Contents are amazing too - so different from what I did myself. I'll wait to post pics, especially as we've had a few more days of summer weather so the change of season can wait.
I think all 'crafters' are hard on themselves.
