Hi all
I have just bought a Bernina 730 Record. It's wonderful and goes like a rocket, but I was wondering what type of needle it uses and where I can buy them. I've tried a Google search, but not got very far. If any Bernina 730 owners can help, I'd be very grateful.
Thanks

It is possible that it takes standard machine needles. Is there a needle already in it that you could compare with?

Any good quality needle will do the job, size according to fabric your using. Surprisingly the old vintage berninas are not fussy ladies when it comes to needles and threads.

A quick search found bernina needles (https://www.tysew.co.uk/parts-accessories/needles/bernina-universal-normal-point-needles-size-90?language=en¤cy=GBP&gclid=Cj0KCQiAtOjyBRC0ARIsAIpJyGO7e83qmhgpWbY1m4wECkoYDwJawXHemdDx1Slk7cO-uhFnkg6-xSYaArMeEALw_wcB) :)

I’ve a vintage Bernina 707 machine and it takes “standard” system 705 needles which come in a variety of sizes and types for different sorts of fabric.
There’s a manual for your machine available and the Bernina website should you need it.

Edit: I can recommend Jaycotts for sewing supplies. Their postage is reasonable for small orders and they have a good range of Schmetz needles.

Edit (again): Sorry, I’ve just seen you are in Switzerland so Jaycotts might not be the best option for you.

Schmetz used to make needles for Bernina and they are very slightly cheaper but have a look at the manual for your machine and see what is recommended. Schmetz have a wide range of sizes and types. The only needles I would avoid are Singer.
Just read StitchinTime’s post and agree with her suggestions.

Thanks for all the quick and helpful replies. I assumed that as it's an old machine, finding needles might be a problem - didn't realise that it would be so easy. I'm not an expert on sewing machines - the only one I've had until now is a very cheap Husqvarna Viking.
I've got the original manual and it says 705, so I'll be able to find them here - I normally use Schmetz anyway.
