Some of you may have now spotted this... it's now possible to "like" posts! You should see the little like button next to each post. This allows you to add your appreciation for a post perhaps when you haven't got a tonne to say but just want to let the poster know you're reading.

This is a new feature, it may be buggy. Please post bugs here. If you can't see it, try doing a "Hard Refresh" on your browser (https://www.getfilecloud.com/blog/2015/03/tech-tip-how-to-do-hard-refresh-in-browsers/#.WNBJdBLyhE4), or alternatively clear your history.
Hope you like it.
Edit: If you cannot see the button please ensure you have cleared your cache.
-
Thank you Fran
-
Repeating as I have done the Hard refresh ...lets see if the like button arrives
no ... edit details have gone as well
-
Can you provide a screenshot?
-
Nice one Fran (still searching for thumbs up emoji)
A hard refresh is usually shift and F5 for those that don't know
Edit .... Oooh you can unlike it if you change your mind!
-
Can you provide a screenshot?
How do you do that?
had a look round the like button seems to be on all the posts... except me
-
You can't like your own posts otherwise I'd have trillions of likes :P
-
Yes, you won't have a like button on your own posts, same way you won't have a thumbs-up on your own posts!
-
You can't like your own posts otherwise I'd have trillions of likes :P
I didn't want to like my own posts I just thought I would see a like button on the screen.. obviously I misunderstood Frans original post... apologies
-

You should still see it on your screen, just alongside other's posts not your own. Are you not seeing the Like button at all?
-
I see the like button and I see if other people have liked a post, but when I click on the button it doesn't tell me that I have liked that post.
-
Does the "Like" button change to "Unlike" ?
Also it should say at the bottom of the post you liked that "You & xxxx" liked this
-
No, it doesn't change to unlike.
-
It seems to be another browser specific thing.
I usually log in with Firefox - and it's with Firefox that nothing seemed to happen when I clicked on the like button. I'm on Safari now and the like/unlike thing is working.
-
I use Firefox and can see the like button.
-
I can see and use the Like/Unlike button but since it arrived the avatars are just black boxes?! Apologies if this has already been mentioned somewhere else
-
I'm using Windows 7 and Firefox and can see the button but it doesn't do anything
With Explorer, Chrome, Safari and Opera I can't see the button
Ububtu 16.04 Firefox v51.0.1(64bit) has button but not working UPDATE: does have button or action button
Windows 10 Firefox 49.0.2 - OK
Edge 38.14393.0.0 no button
-
I 'liked' Fran's original post, but am I supposed to see anything as a result of doing so?

You should see "you liked this" just above my signature/bottom of post.

If anyone is having problems, please let me know the browser, browser version, and device you are using the site on. I can't really help without these details. Screenshots also very welcome.
If you cannot see the button, please do make sure to refresh your cache using a hard refresh or by clearing history as written in the OP.
Ctrl + shift + R works for most mac users and Ctrl + F5 for most Windows users will work, it will refresh the page but will redownload all content from the server (including new button styling) because your computer might have stored a cache of old code.

Did you perform a hard refresh and/or clear your cache?
Unfortunately I don't have an Ubuntu machine to test on and it's a very small proportion of internet users on Ubuntu.
Are you able to see the "Actions" button?
Can you provide a screenshot?
-
All apears fine on Firefox under Windows 7 at the moment
ETA and IE
-
I can see and do likes on my phone (android) but avatars have disapoeared. Will try later on a Mac.
-
Everything is fine on my p.c with Chrome :)

Please do a hard refresh or clear your cache. Explanation here (http://thesewingplace.org.uk/index.php/topic,488.0.html)
-
Will do. Thanks. :D
-
Really pleased with this! Thankyou Fran xxxxxxxxx
I'd spotted the 'like' option as soon as I logged on this evening even though I'd lost the avatars. It was just a plain 'like' at the top of the posts but now I've done the browser refresh I see it in glorious technicolour!!

Edit .... Oooh you can unlike it if you change your mind!
Or you made a mistake. -< As an iPad user it is sooooo easy to swipe in the wrong place. So yes, this is very useful

Has everyone else's LIKE button stopped working or is it just mine? I'm on windows 10 and firefox (laptop) just as before. It stopped working as of last night ... only thing to have changed is a I put in a new modem/router thingy but can't see why that would have made a difference? I've done the F5 refresh and that got it back to being pink (had initially turned clear) have cleared recent history but I still can't 'like' anyones post :( :'(

Hmm, I just did it and it worked ok. But I did make some changes to the site last night, so let me investigate.
-
Mine like buttons have gone white too but I can't say when it happened.
-
Mine is still pink, but doesn't seem to be working. I tried to 'like' ploshkin's post, but no luck. :(
-
My like button is white and it works. 8)

Yes I'd noticed that you and others had liked posts but mine still doesn't work. :'(

My "like" button is pink and it doesn't seem to be working today.
-
My 'like 'button has disappeared
-
Can I ask you all to perform a hard refresh? CTRL, Shift and R for Chrome. CTRL, Shift, F5 for Firefox. This will confirm you all have the most up to date version of the code in your cache.
Can I also get a shoutout of which browser and type of system you each have if your button is not working. It is possibly something browser-specific.
-
Mine's ok on Chrome and W7 :)
-
I've just done a hard refresh (it's control and f5 on Firefox, not control, shift, f5) and my like button has turned pink (it went white overnight) but is not working.
Firefox v 53.0, 32 bit, on Windows 10.
-
did the refresh .. nothing's changed internet explorer windows 10...
-
I see the red like button on Firefox but it doesn't work. It does work on Safari
I have version 53.0 for Mac and it tells me it's up to date.
-
Ok, did the refresh and my Like button has turned pink and it works 0_0
I'm on Win 10 and a Chrome browser Version 57.0.2987.133
-
It works for me in Chrome, but not in Firefox. (Chrome Version 57.0.2987.133, Windows 10 32-bit.)

Just done the hard refresh again. I use Firefox too. Like button red, but still doesn't work.
-
Thanks for the info everyone. It seems like this is a Firefox specific issue. I will investigate it tomorrow when I can look on our work testing suite :*
-
Just for the info, I am using firefox but the like button used to work before, but it doesn't now.
-
Firefox user here too and the like button is not working for me either. I should say that I cannot go beyond 48.0.2
-
No 'like' button for me either, well it's there, but it's white, and it doesn't work. I also use Firefox.
Jessie
-
Using FF. Like button was white, but turned red after hard refresh per earlier instructions. Haven't tried it out yet...
-
Hard refresh sorted mine out too DoB! Thanks for jogging my memory:)
Jessie
-
That's better. Logged in on Explorer and my 'thank' button works.
-

Yes I too am limited to 48.0.2 on my elderly Macbook and the like button does not work for me either.
-
my 'like' button is still missing completely and I can't 'like' anything on everyone else's..... have hard refreshed but no change
-
Ok new computer new modem (not because of the like button issues .... just saying to explain my absence) all sorts of problems getting it all fixed still much to do but have at least got on here! Hoped that the like button would be back ... but nope. Doncha just love modern technology ...... NOT

Today I tried using Explorer and Chrome browsers, with both of them I had no "Like" or "Action" buttons at all. They just weren't there. So I am back to Firefox and a "Like" button that won't work. It does change to a paler colour when I hover over it but it won't work. :(
-
Just to let everyone know that I have figured out what the problem is, just need to get it fixed!
-
Excellent news, thank you 8)
-
Great stuff Fran! :)

I would like this, except I can't. ;)

Thanks Fran :) Your'e a star! :flower:
-
Hi Fran,
I know you are busy ....get that tester pattern finished first! .... but just a gentle reminder that some of us still haven't got our 'like' button.
NB This is not a nag but just in case you had forgotten! :)
L :vintage:
-
It's on the list I posted here of things that will be done this weekend: http://thesewingplace.org.uk/index.php/topic,1007.msg13853.html#msg13853
-
Ah thanks Fran I hadn't read about the blurred avatar problems! All the same your w/e is precious so get your own stuff done first ... I was only concerned that you may have forgotten altogether (as if you would sorreeee didn't mean to sound impatient!)
L :vintage:
-
Yep, no worries! I try to keep bugs and bigger tasks for the forum to the weekends only, because after an 8hr day writing code my brain is so tangled that I often struggle to work even for another hour in the evening and make silly mistakes and such. So my brain is much fresher on a weekend!
-
I'm sure you know what the problem is with the "Like" button. Just to let you know that I have just tried logging in via Chrome browser and the "Like" button works! It is not my favourite browser but at least the "Like" button works on it. :)
I prefer Mozilla Firefox. :vintage:
-
Lilian, I use Firefox too, and the Hard Refresh worked for me. It only took a minute, and I haven't had any further problems with it.
Jessie
-
Hi everyone,
Just to let you know although I have fixed the issue, I can't upload the fix because my hosting password ain't working! So I'm currently awaiting Mr.Im looking into reseting my password. Will update you soon!
Scratch that I was able to update through forum software.
Please perform a hard refresh if your button isn't pink.
-
The like button is now working again, yay.
-
Thanks Fran ... well done! YIPPEE!
Lantana :vintage:
-
And the lovely pink filler background is back - I couldn't see it earlier.
-
Yes! The pink like button is now working with Firefox 0_0 Thank you Fran.
For a while I was using Safari for TSP, but I much prefer FF.
-
I ditched Safari years' ago, but I really miss the 'snapback' feature. Firefox has an active third party development community and my browsing experience is so much better.

Not sure I fully understand what that means UR but I'm going to memorise it so that the next time I get a comment as to why I'm using Firefox I can trot it out as it sounds so intelligent!
The real reason is of course that I hate it when things are different on the computer it's bad enough getting used to my new one which does still have windows ten and firefox but it's all different somehow!
I'd managed to get my like button pink ages ago but it had just not worked ... really delighted to have it back :)

My screen set up is
(http://i.imgur.com/Kw3jzsK.jpg)
and is so much kinder on my eyes than the acres of blinding white backgroud, and is made possible by an add-on. It is not possible to do much tweaking in Safari and the glaring whiteness of the browser was the reason why I gave up on it.
-
Oh that's impressive. I don't even know how to alter things on a basic screen set up let alone get add-ons. The only reason I know they can be altered is because sometimes I've done it accidently and then I can't figure how to get it back. I try and then :'(

Jessie
Unfortunately the hard refresh didn't work for me, I tried it several times :(
Oops I didn't try the "Like" button today. It works now, thank you so much Fran :)
-
I never have had the like button. Hard refresh, clear cache, Firefox user.
It's why I never "Like" anything, lol.

Oh sure, that's your story....
...really though? Upper right,red/pink box? Are you desktop or another contraption?
I really like that we have a like button. :flower:

Can you show us a screenshot of this post? So I can see what you might have?

@Kwaaked Go to your profile (link at top of page), and then choose 'Look and layout' from the left hand side. At the top of your profile there should be something that says 'Current Theme:'.
If this is not followed by 'Forum or Board Default (change)', then please click on 'change' and choose the 'Forum or Board Default' theme.
-
Thanks @Acorn it fixed it.
-
I am no doubt asking something that has come up before, for which I apologise.
I can't find out by searching, what is the difference between 'like' and 'thumbs up'. I know the latter adds points to the karma thing but us that the only difference?
-
I think the like thing shows you like the post, find it funny or empathise with the posters experience .
-
I think the 'thumbs up' adds to the person's karma without referring to a specific post, whereas the 'like' button attaches your 'like' to the post, and also adds to the poster's karma.
-
@Iminei Thank you. I understand the use of 'like' having been on other forums where it is available. What I don't understand is what is the difference between that and the thumbs up thing.
-
The thumbs up is more general, indicating you like / agree with / follow / empathise with the poster rather than a specific post
-
OK, @Lowena , thanks for adding to the explanation. I expect I'll get my head round it at some point ;)
-
The thumbs up is more general, indicating you like / agree with / follow / empathise with the poster rather than a specific post
Now you've gone and made me think. What happens if someone were to thumbs down someone? Would it take Kharma points away??? :'(
I always forget about the thumbs.....
-

Yes, thumbs down will make the karma amount go down (the little number next to the heart).
-
:'( :'( :'( :gin:
-
I've been living in total ignorance of the thumbs! Still am, can't see any anywhere on my phone or laptop. Please tell.
-
@Marniesews
When I look at your post I see first your name, below that Bedfordshire, below that buttons, below that numbers, below that more numbers and below that the thumbs icons.
-
I had no idea that the thumbs were functional, I've been 'liking' like billy-o. So that answers my question as to what the karma was all about. Also, recently discovered that the message icon can be changed so I like that too.
I think newbie's could do with an instruction sheet when they join :S
-
Thank you for the description @fajita - just what I needed to reassure me I wasn't going bonkers. Definitely not there in my view.
I tend to use my laptop more for TSP so as I recall I set a layout that suited my laptop view so perhaps it's not in that one for some reason. Probably a tech question for @Francesca
-
Great information girls! I'm another who has only been using the like button.
Jessie
-
That explains why I knew nothing about thumbs - they don't appear on my Kindle screen layout. I'm glad it's not me being dull.
-
I had seen them but had no idea what they were for.
-
They are deffo there on a desktop computer , but you can't add to your own Karma :D Just like you can't "like" your own posts :D
-
The 'Yay Nay' that appears in the screenshot above is the thumbs - images aren't being shown, so the text equivalent is there. Do they function if you click on them? (If choosing someone at random to click on, please go for Yay and not Nay!!!)
-
We don't support the alternative theme @Marniesews , you don't appear to be using our standard theme. It's unfortunately too much work for us to manage two different themes so some things will be broken if you choose to use the alt theme.
-
That's not a problem for me Francesca but thank you for the explanation. :)
I've not really noticed any other issues that I can think of that could relate to the theme so I'll continue for now as I much prefer the denser text display.
-

I didn't know I could change the icon for the message. So I just did! :)
