Maybe a Facebook group for Jones/vintage sewing machines would be able to help.

No actual sewing for me but I took apart three fabric sample books to see whether the fabric is suitable for  cushions. Also contemplated whether I would/could make piping, still undecided.

I am attempting to reupholster some dining chairs. No sewing involved just fabric cutting and stapling. For every couple of staples that work there is at least one wonky one to be removed. It's getting very tedious and I wish I had chosen thinner fabric.

Closet Core Patterns has a pants fitting guide. Pants Fitting Adjustments Not sure if that could give you any clues on fixing your issues.

@WendyW

There is a sewing machine mechanic in the US who specialises in these machines and he advertises on Ebay.
Viking Sewing Machines
He might be able to help you.

@WendyW That looks pretty much like my Husqvarna (Viking) 6430 which I bought new and have recently had restored after being unused for many years. Mine was completely seized but only required a thorough cleaning, no broken parts. Hopefully your machine will be going smoothly again soon !

Patterns Discussion / Re: Gifting unopened pdf patterns?
« on: January 25, 2023, 00:18:32 AM »
Rightly or wrongly, I think it is a bit a bit unrealistic to think that a pdf pattern would never be shared with anyone else. If I buy a paper pattern that my daughter would also like to use, I would not expect her to buy her own copy. Like wise paper patterns can be traced and Burda Magazines, patterns included, are available from libraries for multiple copying.

Gifting an unused pdf pattern is completely different scenario to distributing a pattern to multiple people. If you give the  pattern to someone else you are "using" it as a gift, in my very-non legal opinion.

@Renegade Sewist  It is already Tuesday afternoon here and I am hemming up the last two of my six curtains. One done and one to go , just stopping for a coffee break. Fortunately the size is not too unmanageable unlike the 120 inch curtains that @Sandra is tackling.

I dont have a great record with curtains. I left some in the living room of the last house which were not quite the same length. Not at all noticeable when they were open, but looked a bit rough when closed

That sounds like my style @SewRuthieSews but I'm trying to reform !

Tuesday 2.00pm is 1.00am Wednesday in my part of Australia so I won't be joining in to the sewing club in UK time.
However Tuesday  afternoon here, I did unpick the hems of two curtains I had sewn yesterday. Hemming the curtains and lining I used exactly the same measurements as the two I did the day before so why were the linings longer than the curtains when I hung them up, sod's law I suppose.

In the wardrobe / Re: Sewing for Australia.

I was in Adelaide last April and the weather was on the cool side. I would suggest that you take a windproof jacket rather than a winter type coat. I haven't been to Alice Springs but I think it can get cold there at night even though the day is warm.

She was the Queen of Australia too. Despite the fancy trappings, it's not a life that I would wish for or for my children.

Thankyou for the link @Gernella, a tiny bit of oil may help.

I have given the machine clean which it was probably due for anyway. Maybe a tiny improvement in the stitch length slider.
Turned the machine back on and the light globe had blown so another struggle to remove that.

@Elnnina I had considered a gentle warm with a hair dryer but was a bit worried about overheating the plastic casing and
the other slider for zigzag works fine. I may give it a try if it is completely stuck.

Thankyou  all for your suggestions.
