It is a difficult one this, and, like other professions that you have to book appointments with, we just have to accept that we are going to get no shows, no matter what you do. I have sent text messages, left voice messages and still they do not arrive. Ring to find out were they are "decided to go home for some tea first, i will come round in an hour". No you b***** well wont.
I did try offering home visits but that was fraught with problems as well. You turn up to collect a couple of pairs of trousers that want altering to find she has got every item of clothing out of the wardrobe for your opinion and 2 hours later she is still trying them on and you end up with a pile of alterations you could do without.
Worse for me is the customer who turns up unanounced, at all hours (even 9pm) and expect you to "just take my dress up an inch, I'll wait". No matter what i do or say it is water of a ducks back, she will always be the same.

Is there enough fabric around the edges to be able to pull a few decent lengths of thread to be able to darn over the hole?Or there is this I haven't used it myself so don't know what it will be like.

Wash with white vinegar?
Tried this today but still smells.
@DementedFairy Perhaps rather than spray the fabric with vodka i should just drink it then i wouldn't notice the smell as much  :gin: :gin: Hic.

Ray Stitch has some and you can get a swatch of all colours for £3. BUT it is £15 a metre.
Fabric Land have beige and black at £3.33 a metre it is described ad bamboo polyester jersey, not sure if that refers to pattern or the fabric.
Organic Textile company have black white and natural, samples available.
Truro fabrics have 4 colours.

I have the same problem with some bonded scuba. It's been washed 3 times but smells as if it has been dipped in petrol. I only paid £1.49 a metre so haven't lost anything if it gets recycled, it would be a shame as i really like the cerise side and was hoping to make a reversible jacket.

I am wearing a horrible cardigan today because it's too hot for a full jacket but too cold for just my t-shirt.
:S Hot, what is this phenomenon .  It's never stopped raining for days and it's so cold the duffel coat has come back out. It's grim up north you know

Is that the Millerain fabric?  I got some but wasn't sure which side to use.  All the company said was that the best side was the lightest.  One side seems smooth the other feels a bit icky.  I've got it all rolled up while around August but at least your tips will come in handy.

It is the Millerain fabric yes. I used the brightest side as the right side as it was the side that appears to have the waxed finish.

I know you have had a tough time with this jacket as the gremlins went berserk  :)

But the jacket in the picture looks great! If you hadn't said anything I would never have known. It's a lovely colour and the pattern looks a good one too. Which pattern is it please? Also, I wonder if the waxed cotton you have used is the one I bought recently? Got the details and link from a post on here?

Well done anyway, that's some patience there, in the making of the jacket, for sure!

lizzy

Yes it probably is the same fabric, link was in the Thought of this thread.
The pattern is this I have done 3 versions now, the knee length in a Molton wool, short version in corduroy and this is mid way between the 2 but i altered the pocket to a bagged pocket.

...... of sewing with the waxed cotton. I have mentioned this fabric and the coat i was making in my diary but it has been such a trial i think it deserved its own topic.
First came the chalk marks i couldn't get rid of. Still there.
Then the watermark on the pocket, it's supposed to be waterproof this fabric  :S
Then i got around to putting the hem facing on, all nicely understiched only to realise i had put it on upside down, out came the stitch unpick.
OK, next the lining. All put together and into the coat, again all understiched, turned it the right way round to find it was pulling along the seam for the zip flap.
Grrrr, were is the dam stitch unpick.
Lining goes in again.
Turns it the right side out and notice that i have stitch holes now  :'(
I wonder if they will steam out like linen or cotton?
NO. I have now got a beatiful water mark pattern all down the front.  :'( :'( Were is the  :gin:
Decide to put the snaps on and use the coat for gardening or put it in the next charity bag. Last snap to go on. Fasten it up, NO the last stud is a mil out and pulls when closed  :'( :'(
Then decide to give it a good press, nothing to loose empty the iron and turn of steam to be on the safe side.
:S All the water marks have disappeared!!!!!
Hang it up, NO NO one of the pockets is off kilter, how did that happen? I meticulously measured the pocket placement, gremlins have obviously been at work. B****r. It will have to stay like that i aren't unpicking again. It will be ok for walking the  :woof: :woof:
@Gernella & @Ellabella hope you have more success with yours.

Have you tried this: https://oureverydaylife.com/how-to-remove-waxy-tailors-chalk-12546542.html
@Vezelay thanks for the link, i have now made up the coat and although the chalk mark is still there it is not too noticeable. I have now bought a water soluble pencil instead of chalk so hopefully won't have the problem again.
