Title: Sewing magazine sold in the U.K.?
Post by: WildAtlanticWay on June 04, 2019, 14:50:17 PM
Recommendations please?

My lovely sister is visiting me from the U.K. next month and I’ve asked if she’d bring a few sewing magazines with her.
What titles are generally sold in the U.K. that’s you’d recommend?

I’m interested in sewing both clothes and accessories but not ventured into patchwork and quilting yet. I picked up a copy of love Sewing this month whilst visiting Cork city but haven’t seen anything else.

Someone posted about the Burda magazine previously but I’m not sure if it’s more of a book or what?

Burda is a monthly pattern magazine, so is Ottobre. I prefer Ottobre (it's less frequent) as it is more informal. You have to trace off from both.
Threads is an American magazine (quarterly I think) with sewing pattern reviews and technique articles. There are lots more aimed at younger beginner sewers, often containing patterns in envelopes.

I receive Simply Sewing by subscription, it's a yearly Christmas present from the OH.

It's ok, there's always at least two free patterns and tutorials on how to make stuff without a pattern. There's always craft ideas too and actually not too many adverts. The patterns are not always garments, sometimes they're accessories.

I suppose it depends on your skill level/interests as to whether it's of any use to you.

You can get Burda and La Maison Victor at WHSmiths. They're both pattern magazines, so they contain a bunch of different patterns.
