So sorry to hear your sad news @twopence.

Had a dreadful night, woke at 4.30. Eventually got up and had a drink and ended up watching swimming from Olympics. Back to bed around 5.30 but rain was hammering down so heaven knows when I drifted off. Had some sad news yesterday but not sure if that was to blame.

Must go out later so hope it stays dry.

@Lowena  @Greybird I have many very mature hostas.  The slugs and snails never touch the new growth but by the time the flowers are coming on them (now) the leaves are in ribbons.  They've been good this year because it has been dry but we have had some considerable rain for 24 hours so I daresay they will be munching now.

That is often the case with ours @Ploshkin, some are 30 years old. The one that gets shredded first is always the first one to show any growth in spring and I wonder if we are late in applying the nematode as it works before the pests get going.

I'm getting a red warning sign that someone else has posted - before I even try to post, so maybe this will be another disappearing one?

I don't think so @Lachica. I get it often, it's just to alert you that you may want to change what you have written as someone may have answered your question or whatever.

Could the Festival Finds include cross stitch or tapestry?

If we drop the 1 metre challenge could we have it later on, I was hoping to do a top in that part.

We had a few spots of rain that lasted all of 5 minutes and it's now just grey and humid.

Have you tried Nematode for your slugs and snails? You dilute it and water it on. We've used it for years but I think we need to do a second lot (did first in spring). We have a lot of hostas and it does help. Something I heard Monty Don say a few weeks ago about hostas and slugs is that he reckons they only go for the plants that are dry...... It could have something in it as the one hosta that gets shredded every year is in a drier part of the garden.

Not much planned for today. I have a pair of white jeans that are just a tiny bit tight over the top of my thigh so I may try and let them out a smidgen.

Take care everyone!

Yes it's been very slow for me since yesterday, not all the time though but it's been the same on laptop and Android tablet.

The relief from the heat seems to have gone as it's getting warmer and no breeze like yesterday. Glad I did the tidying yesterday! Still some to do but we'll see.

Finally got round to sending a recording of my Dad playing 'As Time Goes By' on piano in the late 50s yesterday to a friend who is in radio and wanted to hear it. Had a response that he thought it was as good as, or even better in parts, than Dooley Wilson's recording so feeling happy about that! I knew I liked it but then I'm biased........

Need to do some pattern work and get round to cutting out a dress or, as @Celia says, summer will have gone.......

Enjoy your days everyone!

Great news @b15erk!

It's a nice day up here a bit of sunshine and some breeze. Decided to a big tidy/dust and vac in the lounge/hall/dining room while I felt like it and having cleaned the filter in the vacuum you could notice it had been done.......Put in some washing, including a piece of fabric that I thought I'd already washed but, as I hadn't overlocked the cut edges, had not.

About to start prep for dinner and have a drink in the garden afterwards.

Enjoy your afternoons all!

Normal summer seems to have resumed here but no rain as yet. Feel so tired even though I slept much better last night, I suppose it takes a day or so to catch up!

May do some proper tidying up since I can pull the windows in a bit then I have a pattern to measure the pieces so I guess that will be my excitement of the day.

Enjoy your days!

I'm late too! Decided to phone a friend on the west coast of Ireland who I owed a letter to, half and hour into the call my next door neighbour called with the spare key as they are away for a week in the Cotswolds so had a chat with her. Then called Ireland back. Shortly afterwards people across the road were walking the new puppy so we went out to see them and it and another neighbour came out! I think I'm all talked out for the day........

Feels much cooler even since midmorning as there are clouds and a breeze so bearable.

Thinking of you @Sandra, @realale and good to hear news of Mr @Greybird.

Hardly slept a wink last night and there is now building work going on next door so that is 3 lots in our street of 13 houses.  Been thinking again about moving too......

May do my shopping today rather than tomorrow as for the last 2 weeks the road has either been blocked or closed for several hours on a Friday.

Have a bit of ironing to do and want to tidy round if it doesn't get too hot in the meantime.
