I buy my net retail from Tutus and Textiles or Tutunetoandnotions so can’t help unfortunately.  ;)

The Show Must Go On / Finally, tutu!
« on: May 02, 2021, 17:36:30 PM »
After such a long wait, competition is starting again in UK. This tutu was a last minute make for a lovely young lady who has blossomed in the past year.
The bodice shape is lovely (thank you Tutus that Dance) and is perfect for her body type.
Onwards...........

Previous sewalong entries / Re: Sewing for others - April 1-30 2021

Lorraine’s first entry

First tutu in well over a year.
Made for son in law’s niece. A last minute make started beginning of April and collected for an online competition last weekend.
Bodice is silk dupion using a new (to me) pattern from Suzanne Deickman and tutu is two colours of Italian net mixed to obtain the right colour. The trim was cut from some embroidered lace fabric I got a few years ago from China.
I’m always really insecure about my makes and get hot and sweaty with nerves when they come to collect.
Ellie was a very happy young lady.

I’m just preparing for the madness that will come when our competitions restart! None of the costumes or tutus will fit and everyone will expect to be fitted in! I’m hopeless at saying no but am trying very hard

Hi Sewbusy, I make structured tutus although not in the past year. I would be interested in seeing the silks please. I don’t use bobbinette any more as it was so expensive and my girls prefer powernet panties.

The Haberdashery / Re: Light Box
« on: January 16, 2021, 10:22:51 AM »
I have a fairly long, glass topped console table and I put a lamp underneath to create my own light table.
It's a bit too small to trace full sized sewing patterns but works great for smaller things.

Fun with Fabric / Re: Faux leather
« on: October 23, 2020, 16:59:23 PM »
@sewmuchmore,  I bought some gold coloured, soft, stretch faux leather last year but sadly can't remember where from! It is lovely and I made little skirts for my granddaughters. Textile Express have some nice colours if its for fashion. I'm not sure what the purpose is, but if it's for clothing they might be worth a punt!

@Marniesews youre so right about Steven at trim it. I went to the shop a couple of years ago looking to spend several hundreds pounds on fabric but he still couldn’t really be bothered. We ended up being there about 2 hours (hubby not pleased

The Show Must Go On / Re: Metal vs polyester boning for tutu hoops?
« on: October 12, 2020, 10:16:04 AM »
Sorry @SandyP I haven’t been able to use my laptop for a while so missed your question. Definitely metal hooping for a tutu. I use Hoopwire hooping for the tutu and spiral steel boning for the bodice. You can buy both from Tutus and Textiles. You might get away with polyester boning in the bodice but definitely not the tutu as they are quite a weight when finished.

Current Projects / Re: Christmas Craft 2020
« on: September 21, 2020, 11:00:04 AM »
Our local garden centre opened their Christmas shop this week.

Too early for many but I don't care, I love Christmas planning, shopping and anticipation more than the event itself!

In the wardrobe / Re: Sewing room...what size is yours?
« on: August 19, 2020, 16:09:13 PM »
Reading this makes me feel very fortunate. My sewing space was the integral garage that I had converted so is about 6m x3m I have so much "stuff" that I struggle for storage space but that's because I need lots of fabric for dancers to choose from (that's my excuse and I am sticking to it!!)   [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Patterns Discussion / Re: That Green Zara Dress
« on: August 02, 2020, 20:30:41 PM »
It may be naughty but I would buy the dress, take it home and examine it forensically, then return it!

Done it once or twice  :P

Congratulations @Bodgeitandscarper well deserved win that pattern matching was sublime

I would use that with stretchy stuff. I sometimes use similar with lycra when I need a bit of body.
