I saw this & I thought you may be interested! / Stylearc patterns
« on: April 04, 2023, 09:14:37 AM »
In case anyone is a fan, there are a lot of Stylearc paper patterns on EBay at the moment, multiples of each design so I think they must be over- runs, perhaps of older patterns. There are trousers,( jeans and Ethel pants, I think), lots of dresses and tops. They’re mainly multi size, and are priced from£5.99 to £12.99. Hope this is of use to a Stylearc fan.  :)

Edit: I should add that the postage is about £2.00 and there are large and small sizes. Sadly not in anything I wanted, which is the Ethel top but never mind.

Sorry 2nd Edit: if you can’t find them, the seller is Viktoriat76 and I used a search term “ Indy patterns” and used the lowest price selector, hope this helps.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325580978766 - the Ethel pants. I don’t know if this will come up if you click on it.

I expect everyone has had the email, as I have, but just in case, Sewdirect are having one of their pattern sales on Butterick. 50% off and postage is about £1.50 I think. They definitely seem to be looking at the more mature sewer judging from the pattern styles, but lots of lovely dresses, and three patterns for culottes, as well as the Katherine Tilton, Palmer Pletsch and Lisette lines. It’s a bit lacking in pizazz but very useful patterns.

Sorry to tell anyone who uses the C& H Fabrics Haberdashery departments, that some/all of these will be closing down. Generally C&H Fabrics is scattered around the South East. I know there are shops in Canterbury, Chichester, Tunbridge Wells and Brighton. This news is about the Canterbury C&H but I believe there will be more. It’s very sad and Canterbury will lose it’s only fabric shop. What a shame.

The US Something Delightful site has digital patterns for sale - not sure when it ends (I think today may be the last day) but ok as of now, 16th May. Paper patterns appear to be the same price. Butterick $4~99  Vogue $5~99 Kwik Sew paper patterns $8~39 and McCalls pdfs $14~67. What a strange array of prices. The Butterick are good for the price if you like pdfs.

Patterns Discussion / Japanese sewing book help?
« on: April 26, 2021, 15:07:54 PM »
Hi, I’m sorry I seem to be constantly asking for help at the moment :S My friend is kindly getting me a belated birthday present and wants to buy a book for me. I’ve been looking at the Basic Black book by Sato Watanabe, but now I’ve come across the Sew Chic book by Yoshiko Tsukioro too. Which one to ask for? :scream: They both look great though I’m thinking that the Basic Black is more low key. I do like the slightly off the wall trousers pattern in the Sew Chic book too. I’d like a successful entry into Japanese sewing books as I don’t want to be put off. I’m also a little concerned on sizing as I would be a large ( though short too at 5’2”) in the sizing I can see. I’ve been sewing a long time though so can size up the bust successfully. Is either suitable for a 60+ year old woman with eclectic fashion tastes? Or should I just get a gardening book instead! Any help gratefully received

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Pattern/counter books
« on: April 02, 2021, 09:29:20 AM »
I’d really like to have a couple of older counter books. Does anyone have any idea where they might be sourced? I don’t really mind about age. Any info would be appreciated- thanks.

I saw this & I thought you may be interested! / Simplicity 1431 20-28
« on: March 16, 2021, 11:46:00 AM »
I saw this lovely pattern on EBay but too big for me unfortunately. It’s at a really low price and hoped someone off here could benefit. It’s a nice pattern with top, skirt, dress and trousers and nice fitting lines and neckline. Hope it’s of use to someone https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Simplicity-1431-BB-Pattern/313453754230?hash=item48fb4cb776:g:h0EAAOSwdg1gP85u

Patterns Discussion / Russian Burdastyle pdfs
« on: March 07, 2021, 09:52:08 AM »
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me with this. I’ve looked at the site a couple of times, and the kids pdf patterns are a very good price and often discounted. Has anyone else had experience of downloading patterns from this site. I know it’s Burdastyle but at the same time it’s a Russian site. Apart from using Google translate on my phone camera, I can’t really work out what I’m doing. Is it a safe site? Is it difficult to print out etc. Any advice would be gratefully received.

I was searching for a New Look pattern and noticed this sale on Hobbycraft.co.uk - it seems to be Simplicity and New Look patterns at half price. The postage is quite high at £4.50 but it’s free of charge over £20 and free returns. Hope this helps someone other than me to add to their stash!!  ;)

I’m sure someone else has already mentioned this but it is the Simplicity patterns half price sale at Sewdirect, Minerva Crafts and I’m sure other outlets. I don’t know if it is on in the bricks and mortar shops too?

Just noticed an LIDL advert for the Singer Brilliance sewing machine £119 - looks like it has buttonholes and some decorative stitches and a Singer overlocker £129. There's also a sewing cabinet for £49. Hope this is helpful to someone, or for a present. The offers start today and I presume last a week?

Hi, this is just a query from an oldy to other oldies. Do you remember Style sewing patterns? They were a big seller in the 60s and 70s and I just saw a 1980s Jasper Conran for Style pattern. However I really don't remember when they disappeared, and why. Did they just become very unfashionable or suffer from the fall in home sewing? Does anybody out there know more? I would be really interested to hear. ( Hope this is in the right section- apologies if it isn't)

Patterns Discussion / "La Maison Victor" magazine with men's patterns
« on: September 27, 2018, 13:41:51 PM »
Hi,

I noticed the new copy of La Maison Victor contains a nice and relatively simple set of men's patterns. It's an all man issue! And I thought to give a heads up to anyone who wanted to sew for Christmas ( or any other reason). They seemed good to me anyway.

I haven't posted my own thread before so hope I have done it right! :o
