I'm using Safari and accessing with no problems.

@LeilaMay , yes it is the Bernina 830 I'm interested in. As said I'd be happy to collect if WildAtlanticWay  cannot organise things.

If I do collect I'd be happy to give your other machine a lift/helping hand to Swindon if it helps someone with 'couriering'.

@LeilaMay I'm in Swindon so not too far from me for collection.

I see there are others interested (not surprisingly, if no one else commits to buying please let me know and I'd be happy to purchase.

@LeilaMay  Whereabouts in Somerset are you for collection?

Maybe post a photograph of the 'parts' That have fallen out, someone on here may recognise or be able to advise. Be nice if you could get your old one working, give you time to research a new machine.

Some of the slightly older machines are still working very well and sell for quite low prices.  I have a brother from 1988, was very expensive at the time, £1000.

Try putting a wanted ad on your local Freecycle for sewing threads and look if anyone local is offering a machine for free, it does happen. I was lucky around 11 years ago and picked up a Bernina 730 record in beautiful condition for free.

In the wardrobe / Re: Adjustable mannequin
« on: March 15, 2023, 12:16:52 PM »
I think if you understand how they adjust (properly) and are prepared to work with obvious limitations, they can be extremely useful.

The first I had in the late 1980's a Diana is still in use albeit the central lower adjuster has become detached, (must have had too much strength in those days) and is still waiting to be superglued back on!

I have Adjustofit Petite, Junior and a Male. All still fully functioning.

Bargain for anyone with the space to accommodate it, listed yesterday, collection Cheltenham.

Vintage Machines / Re: New to me Singer 185k
« on: March 13, 2023, 17:31:32 PM »
@Bodgeitandscarper  I'm not too au fait with what Singer parts will fit what machines but that one was easy. The ((K motor I've just bought comes with three light/lamps one of which is brown, was going to offer it you for postage if it would fit, however you've got one now.

I know slightly more about Berninas.

Vintage Machines / Clickety Click 66

My hand crank 201k went into storage with so many other items including my good coats! I retained the Bernina 1080 and my overlocker.

Today I bought an Electric Singer 66k nice little machine still somewhat heavy for me these days. It's in lovely working condition, decals are a little worn but runs beautifully. Did some googling and found a motor foot pedal and lamp for a 66k which can be used on my 201k when I eventually get it back.

Total spend £59.73.

Will post photos later.

Fun with Fabric / Re: Silk pillowcases
« on: December 11, 2022, 10:05:08 AM »
@Lachica  How about making the pillowcases with only the 'face' fabric from the expensive silk and use a matching colour but different fabric for the 'back' side, use something less likely to slide? Two for the price of one that way?

Sewing Spaces and Furniture / Re: cleaning sewing machines

I have a Shark vacuum cleaner and there is a similar set of the mini tools available as an extra. I ordered one along with spare filter pads. Great little item and so useful.

Vintage Machines / Re: Warning about sewing machine scam sale on Gumtree
« on: October 22, 2022, 10:25:39 AM »
This happens a lot on Facebook Marketplace too, not just Bernina sewing machines but computers phones etc. better quality items with high end prices when purchased new.

Local pick up where you can check the item is fully working before hading out money  is usually the safest but even the there are scam where buyers use counterfeit notes to pay and in lots of instances, particularly expensive mobile phones they will resort to violent crime to achieve their goal.

Definitely a buyer beware situation. The police give out warnings and very good advice for these scams.
