Condolences @twopence. @realale glad your mum's now getting physio. A care home is now necessary, you've done your best and now it's time to reclaim your life while the experts look after mum.

I did a bit more ceiling scraping this morning before dolling up to go to the funeral. He was an old friend of my parents, his wife was taken there from her care home & didn't recognise me or my brother. With lockdowns we haven't met my brother since late 2019 so we had tea & cake in the Hillier garden cafe to catch up afterwards. Driving down the M3 in torrential rain proved the cars warning systems work: flashing lights on the dash and multiple 'pings' as the car sensed wheels losing traction then heavy braking as accident avoidance kicked in. Good to know it works but a bit disconcerting. It was sunny & dry until we set off in more torrential rain.

I'm getting a red warning sign that someone else has posted - before I even try to post, so maybe this will be another disappearing one?

@Greybird  great to hear your DH is recovering. Tough times.

I've put a coat of grey over the fuchsia painted walls. It looks horribly gloomy but I'm just using up the paint as undercoat. Now to paint one wall in the sewing room, which is still not empty, I like to finish one job before starting the next but 2 at once is happening. Tomorrow we have a funeral then Thursday we're off to GC duties as usual so need to get as much as poss done today.

I still have more stuff to move out of the sewing room but the dining room still has space for more. I have chucked some. I'm waiting for filler to dry, DH has come back from Screwfix with a pull light switch and downlights for the sewing room. Pull switch means we can move the big mirror which will then cover the light switch. DH says we'll prise off the remaining skirting in both rooms & replace with new as it'll be easier than stripping & painting. (When the fitted wardrobes went in 15 years ago we removed skirtings to get them right back to the walls). Now we're rearranging them I'm pleased we had the same range in all bedrooms, my thrifty nature. This is turning into a bigger job than I anticipated.

Well DH decided that having 2 rooms refloord at once will be more efficient. So I've started emptying the sewing room & piling it in the dining room. We wrestled the big corner wardrobe out of the spare room yesterday so really I should have started washing walls in there. After I finish my sandwich I won't be able to delay bringing the boxes of fabric down & he'll see exactly how much there is 😬 I'll be ready with reminders of how much wood, metal, boat stuff, plumbing stuff, electrical stuff, power tools, lathe, mill.....wish me luck!

@Renegade Sewist sad about your kitty. You did your best. I read somewhere that cats & dogs can also catch Covid, causing respiratory symptoms. I hope that's not what the littlun had.

Instead of revamping my sewing room I'm starting on the spare bedroom. DD2 was here with the children last week (her neighbour has upset her complaining about the children being noisy, and her parenting, and lots of other stuff so she doesn't feel she can be in her own home). It became obvious that we need better beds for the children so I bought an IKEA bunk frame. Without measuring first. You've guessed it....the door would open, but it wouldn't have been possible to squeeze into the room. I suggested DH rehang the door on the opposite side, then rewire the light switch but he's not keen, so instead I've bought 2 smaller IKEA beds on marketplace. They should be ok for a couple of years. I've removed the chest of drawers & started washing walls & filling holes. I have 2 weeks until they're back for a week. I doubt I can get new carpet fitted in that time so there will be gaps as the carpet was fitted up to the built-in furniture.

Just back from a lovely day out with my bf. Walked round the gardens at Cliveden then lunch at hers with scones, jam & cream and candles for DH's birthday. While in the woods at Cliveden my doorbell app rang, but by the time I'd got my phone out, found the app, found my glasses... they'd gone. Later it went again, it was our neighbour saying he'd got our gazebo. There was a freak gust of wind which flipped it over the fence. It was weighed down by a full 12' diameter paddling pool,so it must have been some gust of wind. So much cooler today, what a relief after our very hot 3 days of entertaining 3 under 5s.

Day 3 of having 3 under fives. To the park early, then paddling pool again this afternoon in the garden. Pooped! Although I slept well last night and little one didn't have nightmares, so DD slept better too.
