" With the compliments of Woman's Weekly - Wild West Show designed by Jean Greenhowe. Meet Cowboy Bill & his horse Dynamite, with his Red Indian pal, Little Brave - and his horse Pauncho"

The horses are ~ 18" long, 10.5" high and the riders are ~ 16" tall. Full-size pattern with instructions. From 1983 according to one page ie 40 years old!

I've discovered this in the back of an old atlas.  It's a photocopy of the magazine, uncut and, as far as I can tell complete.

If anyone can make good use of it, it's theirs for the cost of postage.

Access All Accessories / Spencer Ogg Compact Accordion Wallet
« on: March 30, 2023, 14:29:31 PM »
I have made this pattern up this morning, I'd heard lots of good things about Spencer Ogg patterns so I thought that it'd be worth trying it out. Turns out to be a pretty, useful size of purse BUT the way that the gussets are constructed  :boohoo: so much faffing around making 4 shaped gusset pieces when the same can be achieved so much more simply. It's done, it's pretty and will be used but never again!  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Current Projects / Any bright ideas please?
« on: October 26, 2022, 12:01:46 PM »
I'm currently exactly half way through quilting the second of the scrappy quilts that I've recently made. The first one was just scribble quilted and the second one has a 'orange peel' type  design.

The top thread has just started shredding, frequently. As the needle hadn't been changed between quilts    I changed the needle  Same problem ! I've since tried 3 other new needles, same size, different brands to no avail. Bearing in mind that I had no problems with the first half of this quilt and I'm using the same threads throughout, has anyone got any suggestions, please ?

Embroidery Machines / Free Trial of Janome Artista s/w
« on: October 10, 2022, 11:03:08 AM »
The JANOME.CO.UK website has an offer of a free trial of their Artista Digitising s/w. The trial runs to late November so allows a reasonable time to play.
I downloaded the software on Saturday and had to wait until this morning to receive an email with the serial number and activation code. I don't intend to splurge out on the actual product, although it's discounted slightly at the moment, but I am enjoying playing with it.

In the wardrobe / Moss Bros - miracles happen here
« on: March 23, 2022, 11:16:04 AM »
DH needed a new suit as we've got 2 graduations and possibly a wedding to attend this year and his previous one had  'shrunk ' in the wardrobe  :P So yesterday off we went to the nearest large shopping centre. Now I know he's tall and has long legs but in our family he's not an unusual size. We could find jackets no problem he's a 44L everywhere - M&S, Next, JL and Moss Bros, trousers however did not exist - he needs 36w 35inseam, and the best we could find anywhere was 36/33 which is too short. The sales assistant in Moss Bros was adamant that a pair of their 36w33inseam could be lengthened by their 'alterations expert' to 35"inseam despite the trousers having a hem of 1 3/4" and that the hems would still be taped  We're going to have to get him a MTM suit

@Sandra is there a magical process, only known to alteration experts that would achieve this miracle?

Tech Know How / 'Ignore' options
« on: March 12, 2022, 11:24:17 AM »
I've been exploring the options available in my Profile page. As an experiment, I set it up to 'ignore' the vintage machine board and also a chatty member just to see what happens.

When I'm logged in and looking at the 'Unread messages '  anything the 'ignored' member posts is replaced by " You are ignoring this user. Show me the post" which gives me the opportunity to read the post if I wish. This is as expected. However when I make use of ' most recent posts' anything that the 'ignored' member has posted recently is shown, ie not 'ignored' at all. Am I mistaken in not expecting this to happen?

A Good Yarn / Blocking advice needed
« on: February 28, 2022, 14:30:38 PM »
I've just finished knitting a top from the Rowan 'Ease' collection - Okra. It was written for Rowan's Fine Lace yarn (alpaca/wool) which I substituted by Scheepjes 'Maxi Sugar Rush' (cotton). The substitution was made based on info on the website ' yarnsub.com' and it's knitted up well to tension etc. The top is knitted all in one piece from back over the shoulder and down to the front edge but after pinning it out on a flat surface and dampening it / air drying it 3 times now that I've sewn the side seams it's as misshapen as ever - very!

What I need is advice on what I can try next - other than use it as a dishcloth.

Courses & Classes / Craftcourses.com
« on: February 13, 2022, 14:27:28 PM »
Has anyone used this site to discover a craft course that they've actually partipated in?

Their website states:
"CraftCourses connects people with thousands of artisan makers across the UK. We have a massive choice of in-person workshops, live online classes, online courses, kits, and our brand new handcrafted shop."

They do seem to have a great choice of wormholes down which I could easily disappear

I only buy sewing magazines if there is at least one free pattern that I'm interested in. These are not useful to me, but to give them a second chance...

Simplicity 9701 - tops (knit), trousers and skirt  sizes 8,10,12,14

Simplicity 8787 knit pullover dress in 2 lengths with side draping sizes 6 -18

New Look 6676 skirt with 2 options sizes 8 -20

Theses are all uncut, although at least one has notes in pencil on the envelope. I was going to send them to the local charity shop but they are not accepting them any longer, so if anyone is interested let me know and they're available for the cost of the postage.

Technical Help / Vogue 9278
« on: April 08, 2020, 06:44:27 AM »
I've just had my first ever delivery from driessenstoffen ( thanks to whoever it was who introduced us to them  <3 ). Two
glorious lengths of jersey and I love the look of this pattern.

Just one question though: the pattern specifies the use of elastic as the shoulder stay, if I hadn't read the instructions, I would have used a narrow tape/ribbon as usual. Will it matter if I don't use elastic?

Embroidery Machines / FREE Digitising software available to download.
« on: November 28, 2019, 10:54:27 AM »
I was having a mooch around the internet last evening and came upon these two sources of FREE embroidery digitising s/w

-  wingsxp.com - my editor.
this runs on Windows XP upto Windows 10. " A free, simple viewing and editing software with some innovative features and functions. It was mainly developed to provide the capability to view and modify supported embroidery files and then re-save them in any of the available embroidery file formats"

- inkstitch.org - ink/stitch.
" An open source machine embroidery design platform based on Inkscape. Ink/Stitch aims to be a full-fledged, cross platform embroidery digitising platform based entirely on free, open source s/w. Our goal is to be approachable for hobbyists while also providing the power needed by professional digitisers."

Does anybody know anything about either or both of them?
I'm thinking that one or both of them might save me having to by the software peddled by the big sewing machine manufacturers

Overlockers & Coverstitchers / Turning corners
« on: May 06, 2019, 14:46:19 PM »
I've been using my new Brother coverstitch machine successfully now for 4 or 5 tops but today cut out and sewed Vogue 9057 view E. Most of the tops in this pattern have an asymmetric lower hem that involves one 90° ish corner but view E has 2. I'd pinned, tacked and was merrily whizzing along on the machine and came upon the first corner whereupon I realised that I wasn't sure how to tackle it.  :S What I did do was to try and pivot about the leftmost needle and then carry on with the hemming, but wondered if anyone has a better technique for continuously coverstitching a hem that has corners?

Your Favourite Suppliers / New fabric shop near Preston
« on: July 10, 2018, 19:08:20 PM »
I've just today discovered that there's a recently opened fabric shop in Great Harwood. It's called

"Fabric and Fent", - can't find a website but they apparently have an eBay shop. The shop/warehouse is open week days only so I feel that it's my duty as a forum member to go and investigate and report back regarding stock, prices etc . Pity that it's not payday until next week
