Embroidery and Embellishment / Needle threaders
« on: February 11, 2020, 12:45:56 PM »
I’m looking for options to help me thread embroidery sewing needles with a couple of strands of floss.

I use the normal wire device for sewing thread.

Has anyone used the little machine type devices?

A search of the forum shows very mixed results for the self threading needles probably best for quilt makers.

Thanks

My father, left me an embroidery which he had stitched. Although not very old it has been stored  badly so the cotton background material is stained.

I have washed the embroidery and the stains have not come out but worse one stain has now become a small hole.

The hole is about ¼” diameter. It is too close to the embroidery to be covered by the frame and the design is such that I cannot cover it with more embroidery. So a mend of some sorts is necessary.

Any suggestions as to how to go about this as inconspicuously as possible would be appreciated.  My first thought is to place a small piece of cotton fabric behind the hole and stitch it down with   matching cotton thread.

Thank you

Thank you Deafoldbat. I will give it a go. Not too old to earn new tricks!

I need to cut some fabric strips and I would normally pull a thread and then use shears.

However as I need several metres it would be faster to use a rotary cutter but the only time I have done this my strip had a slight “V” shape! Has anyone any tips so that I  can avoid this fault.

Hi, I'm new... / Hello. Another new member.

Hi

I live in Surrey and I learnt to sew over 50 years ago making dolly clothes. I used to make all my own clothes and then clothes for my small children and curtains and bags for home. After a long gap looking after family and elderly father I have returned to sewing (and knitting). My current project is a little bag for my toddler grandson!

I have an old Pfaff machine and my husband recently bought me a Pfaff Passport 2. The new machine has a push button function as now unfortunately I have physical difficulty using a foot pedal.

So I am learning to use a new machine, will need new patterns and new suppliers and hope that this forum will give me ideas and help.
