I have had a hate relationship with this jelly roll for years, I have made a cushion with it which I was eventually pleased with and then I tried some log cabin ok but I lost the will to live with all of the frayed bits that came off the edge.

Yesterday I took the jelly roll by the horns and cut it completely into 3 x2.5 inch patches now all I need to do is sew them together   not too sure how big a piece I will get but at least I will not be covered in tiny threads.

I love the way the colours are pre selected I just hate the threads.

A Good Yarn / My machine knitting revival New Hat
« on: February 03, 2023, 11:15:08 AM »
I so enjoyed my knitting on my machine yesterday and the day before  that I feel quite inspired again but I need to make different smallish things at the moment.  So here is my first make of the new me.

It was knitted on an LK150 not a machine I have used that much in the past but great fun, it is in Drops Nepal.

The photo is as it’s finished it needs blocking and steaming yet.

A Good Yarn / Celia’s Knitting update for 2023
« on: January 30, 2023, 10:01:41 AM »
I have unpicked the offending jumper with sheep on which I intended to knit last year and am halfway through re knitting it this is it before I unpicked it.

I have reknitted it with only one background colour the darker one and so far it is looking better.

I was going to knit it partly on the knitting machine but have decide it didn’t look right so back to hand knitting.  Let’s just hope it fits, I have finished the yoke and am about 1/2 way down the body.

Sewing Machines / Fancy sewing machine thoughts
« on: January 10, 2023, 13:18:26 PM »
I spent a lot of time on Sunday playing with my fancy machine, it has all the fancy gismos, it has an automatic lift foot, duel feed, 9mm swing zillion stitches……… ok you get the idea.

Now I am off to sew my oven gloves this afternoon and what will I sew them on, my straight stitch machine of course

Now this is a slightly tongue in cheek post but I do wonder what do you all sew on your fancy machines? How many stitches do you use etc.  i deliberately haven’t put the model or make of my said machine as it is sort of irrelevant

Opinions please

A Good Yarn / Celia’s new weaving obsession
« on: November 21, 2022, 09:26:35 AM »
Some of you may know I joined a local spinning, weaving group.  While I was there I encountered Tapestry weaving and haven’t been able to get it out of my mind.

I already had this book https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Tapestry-Weaving-Search-Press-Classics/dp/1782212043/ref=sr_1_8?crid=1AJS9HJG31J6T&keywords=tapestry+weaving+books&qid=1669022240&sprefix=Tapestry+weav%2Caps%2C77&sr=8-8. On my bookcase so started playing

This evolved to me buying another loom but the good news is you can buy much cheaper looms to do this sort or weaving, i basic one starts from about £25.00.

I did buy  a large one as most of my looms are narrow and I thought I would like something wide, probably wasn’t necessary.

I am really enjoying the leaning curve the book is a great starting place and really easy to follow and there is quite a lot of free info on the internet.

I am still at the experimental stage so no photos of my work yet

Access All Accessories / Bag for my weaving loom finished
« on: November 06, 2022, 13:52:40 PM »
The bag is finished and seems to work well, I have put a fastener on it but might do later just not sure what sort.

The fabric is a black quilted velvet which has an attached lining, I bought it to make my mother a jacket but on inspection it had a lot of flaws in it so it just got shelved for years. The straps age just some of my weaving

Fun with Fabric / New approach to fabric
« on: November 06, 2022, 10:39:23 AM »
Yesterday when I was looking for fabric for my bag I couldn’t find anything suitable in a big enough length, I didn’t want to buy something until I was sure what I needed.

Then I remembered I had a load of fabric sorted out to get rid of so I trundled through and found something ok, so thought would make a rough one just to check size etc.

It has worked out well but it got me thinking  instead of getting rid of it I am going to take each piece out and do something with it now, yes now not next week or next year.  If I really can’t think of anything then it can go.

It will mean I   might have to do summer thing in the winter but I think it might help me not feel overwhelmed by it all, I am only looking a one piece at a time.  Incidental I actually think most of this fabric is winter weight.

A Good Yarn / Winter Mitten knitting
« on: October 15, 2022, 10:28:49 AM »
I have just seen this book  https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1570769850/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1  and it has made me feel like knitting some more winter mittens. Does anyone feel like joining me.

If anyone does it can be any type of hand covering, mittens, gloves, fingerless gloves  plain, cabled fair isle anything goes.

In the wardrobe / Help pattern for fleece jacket
« on: August 04, 2022, 11:38:43 AM »
I am looking for a simple style pattern for a fleece jacket that has a front zip and NO hood.

I also don’t want it with 20 seams and sculpted which is all I seem to be able to find.  I want it for my Son he has one but I don’t feel up to copying it especially around the neck and zip.  It would be good if I could find a unisex one as I think I might like one too.

Any ideas all I can find is hoodies or very fitted sports style.

Thanks

I was going through some sewing stash and came across these fabrics, they are off cuts I was given, they are beautiful Italian cotton, very fine, used for mens shirts.
The main problem is the bulk of them are red and blue, in various patterns, I don’t want to buy more fabric to go with them as it would be really difficult to find a similar quality without paying an arm and a leg.

I am only thinking of doing something really simple. No fancy cutting or fancy quilting, the simpler the better.  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I have now got the book and am still undecided if it’s any good or not more about that later on another post, right now I am looking at the patchwork jacket, I liked the idea even before I saw it and some of them looked good on the show.  The one in the pattern book is not quite to my idea but I am thinking of using it with altering length etc., here are my problems

They say cut the front pieces out to size once you have pieced the fabric, then cut wadding and lining out 1 inch bigger, and then quilt it.    Well in my limited experience does that not mean the front once quilted and of course trimmed will end up smaller than you want???

The sleeves are pieced but not quilted and the back is not even pieced. Also just for your interest there are no mitred corners on the binding

Not sure if I should post this here or in the darkside maybe @SewRuthieSews you can help, do you have the book yet , I think you said you had it on order?
