Sewalongs and Competitions / Re: Ideas for 2024 contests?
« on: December 29, 2023, 11:25:06 AM »
I've just sat here and made a big WIPGO, just listed all the ideas that i can think of, you may tick off two boxes by making one item ie: a tartan skirt would tick off two numbered boxes.
..........................
It won't let me attach, i'll do a screendump

How about having a big WIPGO board (40 ideas etc) with a large selection of sewing projects/ideas on it that everyone can contribute towards and then you just pick out what you fancy doing for that week or month, you may even like to do something that somebody else has submitted. At least if you pick a project you're more likely to join in as there will be something for everyone, darkside/lightside. If a sewing competition is put in place for say January to complete an item of clothing with stars on for example, then it might not suit everyone so you feel a bit left out and then don't bother sewing anything. We can still have the sewalongs on Tues/Wed and share what we've done......just a thought. Once a month we can say what number square we are working on and i also think it takes the pressure away of trying to get something completed by the deadline.

I prefer the idea of sewalongs or sew togethers rather than a competition. More a 'chat as we do it'  sharing our progress/lack of but still with a time limit.

@realale Totally agree, not keen on the competitions myself as i think everyone's a winner for just sewing/crafting something in the first place.

Sewing Spaces and Furniture / Re: Sewing table
« on: December 26, 2023, 11:15:21 AM »
@deetee I had this table a couple of years ago, solid as a rock and suitable for sewing. I found the drawers very useful as they are quite large. The only reason i got rid of mine was i bought a dedicated sewing table.

I think the Autumn Capsule Wardrobe is always a good one to go with, i was a bit late with this years but i'd definitely be up for it next Autumn.

I like the sound of the "exercise wear" theme  :thumb:

The UFO is always a dead cert  I think most of us have something that's unfinished, i know i do

How about a Lingerie theme, i'd like to make a cotton dressing gown or maybe some PJ's

A something for the "home" theme, like a wall hanging, carrier bag holder, placemats, cushion etc

Accessories theme, maybe a purse or wallet, bag etc I know we had it this year but it's still a good one.

I'm not a fan of "Peach" either  :x

Thankyou for organising all these themes @SewRuthieSews

Tech Know How / Re: Uploading photos on smaller format

@Sheilago I don't have an iphone anymore as i've recently changed to android but i used the PicCollage app and still do, it's brilliant, you just import the photo and it automatically reduces its size. I don't subscribe so just use the basic frames it offers that are free, you do get the odd advert but nothing that's annoying.

I wouldn't sell it, as you say, you don't need the money so I'd just let it sit upstairs in your sewing room and it's there for when you need it.

I for one can say, having met and visited  @Celia , that she  looks after her home and possessions immaculately.

You will basically be getting a brand new machine.
I absolutely agree with you but nobody will pay near the original price.

@Ohsewsimple We had exactly the same advice, I'm not leaving any money to anyone, I do have two nephews but they squander money like there's no tomorrow so it won't be left to them, I will be leaving some to the local animal charities and we will spend the rest during our retirement years and at the same time being very careful with the money.

@Celia I think if you're spending that amount of money on a second hand sewing machine, I personally wouldn't want to pay anywhere near the original asking price. I think £1400-£1500 is very reasonable.
I have exactly the same feeling as you, I don't use my 9450 all the time and that cost nearly £3k but it's a beautiful machine and I love it, but I do question myself and think maybe I shouldn't have bought it and should have made do with my cheaper machine. The way I look at it is I've worked so hard all my life so why shouldn't I treat myself, I don't drink or smoke, buy handbags or expensive shoes and these days I hardly leave the house. We do deserve nice things and it's my only expensive treat and like they say  "you can't take it with you".

Well I've got my wool and I'm really pleased with it and I love the colour, petrol blue. I shall be starting this jumper tomorrow. I bought an extra ball as I'll be making it a bit longer.

@Celia If I was looking to buy it second hand I would only want to pay about £1200-£1500 and I would only pay this if I was absolutely sure of its history.
