Place to put your locales...yet I don't see a single one (apart from mine of course)
Now if I can remember how I did it, heres a quick tech tut from a technodunce...
By your Avatar at the top right of the page...
(you Gals remember you can post a lovely pic in your avatar space don't you??)
click Forum Profile
The first modification you can make is Personalized picture ...(are you getting the hint yet? you know who you are!)
Next up is Personalized Text...mine shows as Quilting Quietly in Deepest Darkest Dorset ....
This is where you can add your locale ladies (and Germs)
You wanted this option so we know where we all are or if it is possible to meet up etc...
So c'mon Gang! ... Lets see where you are...
-
I put my location in when I registered, I think :)
-
I too populated my profile with all the information I was willing to share ;) and for a brief moment location was visible in the avatar area before it became buggy and Fran had to take it out. It would be nice to have it back, but it's not a biggie in the scheme of things. :*
-
Yes you did SS;
but it doesn't show in the box to the left of your posts so peeps can't see where you are....
If you enter, whatever you want really, in the personalized text .... it comes up at the bottom of that box.
So you could enter 'Pottering in Poole'
and I could then see you live in the next town to me and could pm you with an invite for a rummage round the local emporia and a cup of tea....
Alternatively you could enter 'Swimming with Skunks in the South China Seas'
and I would make sure I stay as far away from you as I could!!!
???
Ah Okay Retch, can't help with gremlins I'm afraid.
I'm on a laptop using chrome and have not had any problems, you obviously have other tech ...
-
Please Miss, I put mine in - it's just not showing - or at least I can't see it.
Jessie
-
I could be 'splendid in Blackheath'. 0_0
-
I am now Werriting in Warwickshire :P
-
I've changed mine but it's not showing.
-
Okay SS,
Yours is showing in your signature..which is fine!
but would it not work under personalized text?? and show in your avatar??
B15erk, yours is showing in your signature line too....Same problems???
You're right Effie...and I tried to change it for you...
There's only one person we can call on for this....
SuperFran...
-
Where's a superhero icon when you need one :)
-
Okay Gals
I have tried modifying all of your profiles (with your permissions I hope) and they are not showing in your avatar box...
and nor is mine anymore!!!!!
for why I do not know Im afraid...
However you can and have added your locales in the signature section....so we can see where you all are!
Im sure when SuperFran gets back to the forum, she could find out why this isnt working for you and (hopefully) sort it!
Im on a laptop, what devices are you on???

Mine has never shown either; I'm on a pc. I'll add it to my signature :flower:
-
I've just filled in that line. Can you see what it is yet? Nope, nothing there!
I'll add it to my signature. I'm on a Macbook Pro ( hate the bloody thing)
-
I just did mine too. It doesn't show on my previous posts so let's see if it shows now.
Nope ! I checked it and the text I put in is there and I saved changes but it still doesn't show Hmm...
Aahh now it does :-)
-
Okay Gals, that seems to be the way to do it (at least until another update!)
If you are upset that I have fiddled with your files ... my sincerest apologies ....
let me know and I will change them back or you can do it yourselves.
But at least we are all loud and proud of who and where we are and what we are doing...
SS what the hell is weritting?????
There you go Lil, its the 2nd explanation.....
I think I'm going to delete the first, but then the posts would make no sense...Whats a girl to do???
-
SS what the hell is weritting?????
It's a Midlands word for worrying. It was the first thing that came to mind paired with Warwickshire!! :D
-
Hope you don't werrit too much though, Singingsinger. All these are very witty - I will have to try to rise to the occasion.
-
I am loving these 0_0 I think I need to be a bit more creative!
-
I tried to follow the updated instructions, but I could only see "Personal" Text" so put it in there... but has it worked???
Edit:- Has it 'eck! I is disappointed.
Edited again - and now it has - so where did that come from then?
-
My edit worked, but doesn't say that I wanted (the text was previously in my sign-off signature). Still, it's something. :D
-
Then go to your forum profile and change the text in the custom text box...
remember to click the modify profile button at the bottom of the page and there you go!
-
I'm probably being dull as a hedge here but I can't for the life of me see a box saying custom title.
I'll look again tomorrow - it's been a trying day.
-
I filled mine in so just checking here that it works!
-
It doesn't. Bugger!
-
what about now?

-
dooowwnt sulk..it's probably cause you've got the special buntings in the section by your avatar
-
It would so nice to have one sewing forum where it's not assumed all members are "gals". :)
-
Didn't work for me, must try again
-
Trying again

I'm going to have to defend Iminei here she usually refers to both sexes in her posts ...she hasn't on this occasion and I'm sorry it has upset you
-
It doesn't. Bugger!
It didn't for me at first, I logged out and closed the tab, then logged in again, but can't remember if that's what made it work actually :| - but it does now :D
-
I'm probably being dull as a hedge here but I can't for the life of me see a box saying custom title.

My box said "Personal Text" - have you got one of those?

shurrup you!
-
Actually Bodgeit, I sorted it for you!
If theres anybody else wants me to (try and...no promises) add a custom text to your avatars...
drop me a line, preferably with the line of text you want otherwise you will be
Swimming With Skunks in the South China Seas
God I love alliteration!
-
Then go to your forum profile and change the text in the custom text box...
remember to click the modify profile button at the bottom of the page and there you go!
I followed your tute, but the change I made doesn't stick. Still at least I have something, unlike others. :D
-
Actually Bodgeit, I sorted it for you!
And there was me thinking I'd been clever :(
But thank you very much, you're a star :toast:
-
Not working for me! :(
-
Not working for me either. My original bit of personal text had disappeared from my avatar anyway & the new bit I put in the forum profile hasn't appeared either.
-
Let me know what you two girls want.....and for the chaps too, DalbyAU....and I'll alter your settings!
-
Thanks, Imi. I rather like 'splendiferous'. The fish has been returned to the fridge. 0_0
-
Phew!!
-
Ooh ahhh. I'm going to be boring.....
Sewing near Southampton
That will do me fine thanks.
-
I've checked and checked the instructions, the text is showing on my 'modify profile' page...but nothing on any posts so far. Is there any reason why it works for some and not others? Is it a subscription thing?
-
DF I see your text.
I think it is dependent on whether you are looking on mobile, tablet or desktop. I will try to look into it to make it same across all but apologies I'm dealing with some workplace stress at the moment so I'm struggling to do forum development in the evenings as I'm really out of it by the end of the day!
-
I can see DF's rather amusing location and I use my phone to access the site. My phone doesn't show some things my kindle does, but on the whole I think I get all the important bits

Yay! Thanks so much. Started to get a complex! :)

@DementedFairy: make sure you stamp the ashes into the ground. 0_0
-
We're getting there Girls, we're getting there!
Now Poor Fran has been run off her feet getting this site up and running so so we are going to give her some space for a week or so (actually she'll be out partaying with the best of 'em!!)
So if you want a witty tagline in your avatar box come to me and I'll see if I can wave my wicked wand over the problem!
-
Hi Im,
Can't seem to get mine to work... :'(

IT'S APPEARED! As if by magic...maybe the system just sulks and snarls for a few days before it works? Rather like me?
-
Hasn't worked for me :'(
-
Mali, please read down 3 posts!!!
-
Would you be able to do mine Iminei. It's on my forum profile but doesn't appear anywhere
Wearing wellies, in wild, wet, windy (mid) Wales
-
There you go Plosh...
When you girls go into forum profile,
can you see the Custom Title box??? its just above Signature box
under the section for your birthday, location and gender
Just curious???
-
Forum profile box contains :
Personalised picture
Personal text
Birthdate location gender
Signature
Website title website url
-
Photo of the page (we Luddites take photo on phone then upload here. I'm sure there's an easier way)
-
Thank you Iminei.
No custom title box, I have same as listed by Fajita
Also if it's at all relevant, the text that I had in the Personalised Text box that previously showed at the end of my messages disappeared a week or so back (it was still on the profile details but no longer appeared on the messages.)

-
"Running around in Reading" - honestly how boring is that! I'll think of something better later!
-
There seems to be an assumption that every is female, that has not been my experience with sewing and knitting forums. So pls be careful I wouldn't want anyone to feel excluded.

This was indeed mentioned earlier and I believe Iminei apologised for it. I admit I am also not a fan of presuming gender. I am going to change the thread title, I'm sorry you may have been unhappy about this. Hopefully we can use this point as somewhere to step forward from on the forum, all being mindful to each other and celebrating our diversity <3
-
Apologies from me too!
Wicked wand waved, Lyn

NeilM seems to be the only active male and I think of him as a honorary woman. :D

Oh Utta you've forgotten Rodger and there's Gazzlodi plus several others including DalbyAU and Arrow
Edit after Frans post....I did mean Roger ... my Rodger is spelt the English way!!
-
And Roger!
-
I'm sorry you may have been unhappy about this.
Oh no, not unhappy at all. I knew it was unintentional. I just didn't want this new forum putting anyone off of joining. I belong to the Machine Knitters Group on Ravelry and I'm sure a third of the members are male. There are also many men who sew on the Stitcher's Guild forum and they produce excellent work.
-
Oh Utta you've forgotten Rodger and there's Gazzlodi plus several others including DalbyAU and Arrow
0_0 0_0 So we have a few more honorary women. Actually I try to be gender neutral and don't assume that we are all women just because this is a crafting site. When I join 'tech' sites, I tend to choose a username that doesn't identify me as a woman but the overwhelmingly male membership will assume I am a man anyway. The number of time I have been called he is countless. 0_0

IMO people shouldn't get uptight about it, unless it's done with malice. I have a gender neutral first name and don't get upset if people think I'm male,it's not done deliberately. On the other hand "never assume... it makes an ass out of u and me" :D

I think it's more just being a bit mindful. I don't see people getting super angry and uptight about it, but it's a stupidly simple change to just not use a gendered word to make everyone feel included. I try to use gender neutral terms throughout my life. You never know when your little word could be powerful to someone who feels excluded already.
Perhaps I feel it more deeply because I have regularly been surrounded by men at work. I am the only female in my current team, one of only three in the wider team of 55, and this is actually the first time I've EVER worked with another female developer in the wider team in my whole career. Even if there are women in my team they're nearly always QA's or project managers.
