So todays efforts were painstaking but when I finally stood back I seemed to have lost all sense of scale ...

I've built a tree-house in a bonsai tree ...

and this seating seems to be a verrrrry long way down the garden ... or built for gnomes?!
What should I do ???
-
Just add a note on the bottom saying "not to scale"
-
I like it. I think I would add a few more quirky miniatures here and there.
-
What size is the proposed finished product Im? I reckon it's fine and adds whimsy to it; sort of like "Gullivers' Travels". If there are other blocks to be added I would even consider running with the theme and continuing with the "out of scale" idea.

This is the project as it is this morning ... its just over a metre square.
Im going to add slim borders to the side to take the binding but the blocks are all there.
More pics at the end of March's BOM (https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipMspHX0fywRTEvf7BiCx40TcyP_Per1hDf6QcbOcxqajhqQc9y-Buo7xINU7f2XgA?key=TV95VW44aVQybVlCdU5MbFFxbFlpVEZja0N5emhR) tut

Just think of the size of a bench/seats compared to the size of a house, not really too small.
-
What a nice quilt!!!! 0_0
I would leave it as it is. A quilt doesn't need to be perfect.
Btw: If the top is 1x1m,.... how small are the appliques??? :S *wow*
-
The bench is history ...
if the gnomes want a seat they will need to find a toadstool and fight it out with the pixies.
@Sakar .. the individual blocks are 2 1/2" x whatever .... so quite teeny ...The bench is now 1 1/2" x 1" tall.
I have replaced it with a nice new one from Haskins garden centre.

Isn't there always a stray thread lurking whenever you take a close up pic ?????
I think Im going to add a heron somewhere looking at what he might have won!
More pics, if you are interested in March's BOM (https://photos.app.goo.gl/1T4GpZQUI8uGccJu2)

Goodness, you must have infinite patience to play with all those tiny pieces and different fabrics. The end result is certainly eye-catching. Love all the different stitches you've used for the appliques too. :flower:

Can you give me some ideas as what to add to my village wall hanging ???

Nothing teensy teensy ... the blocks were cut from 3" strips so are 2 1/2" finished
No cars, roads etc ... I have made some fencing and an open gate but dont know quite which home would have it ...

A pond! Have you got any blue fabric with fish on it?
Please look in the album, I made my own fish and water lilies .. (these are very small things)

-
could a cottage become a chapel? (I know nothing)
-
A Church?
-
Yes perhaps I could add a steeple ... oooh and a grave yard !!! :D
But which house ? (obvs not one with windows, doors and a kiddie bike in the garden!)
Can you tell I never work to a plan?! :)
-
The yellow one with the brown roof on the right hand side has room for a steeple and a graveyard. :)
-
Might one of your villagers have a (simplified!) formal knot garden?...a beehive?...garden archway thingy which climbers ramble over?
Love the idea of a chapel/church with gravestones.
Sandra.

-
I too thought of a Church and as these would traditionally be set at the "top" of the village you could use the Lilac(?) one with the tree (toppish leftish), with what appears to be a blackish roof (PDs).
Maybe a post box or Post Office??? -<
-
could you do an arched doorway for the church (again, I know nothing)

-
An old fashioned Well?
A rainbow?
A village pub?
:)
-
Rotary washing line...barbecue...water butt...compost bin...hanging baskets (probably a bit small?)

How can you all be adding so many suggestions when Imi's done her usual trick of posting invisible photos? >:)
If they are invisibub follow the link BrendyP

A red phone box? Not that I can see your pic @Iminei

Glad you mentioned that @BrendaP I thought it was like the Emperor's New Clothes :D Why does it keep happening to your photos @Iminei -<

It could be a little Emmerdale, with a helicopter about to crash into the village hall as a wedding is underway ...
-
Sunflowers :)

Village pics here at the end of March's BOM tut (https://photos.app.goo.gl/1T4GpZQUI8uGccJu2)
-
A duckpond? Must have a pub!! And a church etc....
-
Lovely ideas but the village is made, so ideas must fit in ...
I'm going to try and adapt the top lilac with polka dot roof into a church ...
as the Greeks believe, Church's are always as close to God as you can get them and this one has lots of sky to fill.
I might get a pub out of one of the 'vacant' houses ... and a natural pond, maybe in the scrappy land at the bottom of the quilt ....
mmnnn I think its Village life for me today then !!!
-
Hot air balloon ?
-
It could be a little Emmerdale, with a helicopter about to crash into the village hall as a wedding is underway ...
Must admit I like the idea of something Very Bad happening somewhere - so that at first glance it looks idyllic but closer inspection reveals that all is not as it seems!! (touch of the Midsomer Murders?)
-
A zombie :D
-
I have been beavering away ... I swear to God you could get more done on the real thing ...
But here we are, no more spending Sunday at the stupormarket or the local retail outlet ...

But Im furious that one of my windows went on the wonk!!! Got to sort that!
-
It`s an old church - they have wonky windows
-
If you ever go into St David's cathedral in Pembrokeshire you will come out understanding that your church is a model of perpendicularity.
The arches inside St David's are enough to make you feel quite queasy.
-
Hahahaha! And there I was in awe of your skills (still am, actually, I couldn't do all that fiddly piecing even if the windows aren't!)
-
I love St David's - the city and the cathedral. If you put a marble on the floor in one corner if the cathedral I think it would roll diagonally to the other corner! :D
-
I don't think I can include a hot air balloon (sadly) as I don't think I have enough sky ...
unless I make it very wee as in, far off in the distance?
-
C'mon Gals, I need ideas here ...... :o
-
What sort of ideas are you looking for? You've had lots of ideas.
Shop. School. Car park. Bonfire. Holiday jet flying by. Sun. Clouds. Birds. People.
-
Oooh, yes. A nice little village school like this one at which I used to teach in Devon. It would need to be close to the church as village schools are often church schools.
I have some llama fabric. A field of llamas would be great but I think you'd have a problem with scale.
-
Gallows
(sorry)
-
Flagpole.
-
A signpost with the name of the village; Imiville
-
Penelope Keith walking around!
-
A cannabis field :flower:
-
It doesn't have a pub or a Post Office. Maybe a little bridge over a river and if you're feeling particularly ambitious, a mill with a wheel beside aforementioned river.
It hasn't a chippie or a butcher's shop or a greengrocer. A window cleaner in a van and a pharmacy might be useful. A police station, a train station, some road signs to interesting places. A town hall. Has someone said cuddly toy already??? :)
-
Maypole?
-
I really love this quilt, Imi: tempted to have a go at one! I too thought a school or a village hall would be good. Maybe a post box if not too small.

The sun is finally out do you fancy joining me Girls?

The pub looks most inviting- brilliant!

Iminei, you have the patience of a saint. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
-
What a lovely village. I want to move there. Can you do lambs? In wool, of course. :D

What do you think Ladies ?
FOQ info and entry forms landed on my doormat yesterday, Dare I ?????

Dare I ?????

Rude not to and since you're going to be there anyway.... :)

Progress is being made Ladies (and Germs, if there are any in here)
I have discovered that Elvis can do very wee lettering as well as large 0_0 but that does make my attempt at the pubs sign look rubbish, so now, as well as having unpicked and re made the porch of the pub, I am thinking about the sign and how I can possibly ...ahem ... alter ... it!!

Unpicking wont be an option with all that satin stitch going on so I'll have to put my thinking cap on.
I need to buckle down as the entry forms need to be in by June 1st and I want the top 99% complete by then.
As you can see its grown a little (I blame the warm weather)

I don't see what's wrong with the pub sign...? It's on such a small scale, it isn't screaming, 'Look at me!', and looking out of place.
It's looking good...and I love the added farm. Great polytunnels 0_0 . I was trying to think of the significance...if any...of the farms name.
Ah! Yes. I've got it. <3

Some small progress at the end of the album ...
The Village (https://photos.app.goo.gl/U71u4zJVuoWCc9xE2)
-
Gosh this is beautiful @Iminei . How about adding a horse or a cow (or two). If it's not too fiddly diddly to do, a cat and/or dog would not be out of place either. Do your villagers ride bikes?
-
Nah! Sorry Manuela but its the Marie Celeste of Villages ... no living things!
-
My absolute favourites are the sheets drying on the washing line - the shape of them is so good, they actually look like they're blowing in the wind. Then, closely following them, I love the benches and umbrellas in the pub garden, plus the telephone box next door. Great work @Iminei . <3
-
Every time I look I see something new. Finally found Bodgie's hot tub. Can't wait to see it at FoQ. :loveit:
-
Thank you, but Im a lil worried that my letterbox is too small!!! :S
There is no Hot Tub, tho if Bodgie was in the paddling pool (!) today, it could have counted down here in DDD.

Just terrific Im. Such an awful lot of work and patience...I dips me hat to ya. :toast:

Okay so I have continued adding to the village. I have completed another house,
appliqued over changed the postbox and am much happier with it, just the slot to add now but further on, on Monday I had a bit of a meltdown :\
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/5M4JYToY1hnQSLUMl32QMjXw0x4HmpB0JMp4NCCnUQaMpRJOHpNXi6YnOx9ZIb8omh07U8iscTz4Fv9zbgN28VBAD2axIvLUTwHF-0qo1mteG9IbYBTIuygPs1ZCZga4WMrQZbXHUj9WGlou6UAO7Y5JTdPbHCgaJr9i5rB85BdQYux_5d1Y6Pyj6LHdbTFBncfMxP-LhulEWLaI9fot2P1iQRJYHhw74YP4-VTU4Eu7x008dfLc6GqnGV7WIuljnE15gbh92FbEwUaDr5__usJ3x-ZKZw9NhtCG3STv5-tcHS1RbV_jWYg3q5TJNt2lE-CBt_QMi_I_EZaKHcDmPmUM3rWTz1iGmonTykZD97Y17oXsJqJ5VSFedXI-jLmZKnnnmsgD63-UXsl5Pmw_F4vXOB3t3Y3kFnhNjOflHsjrb8d2i_tFpmcQItmFHczLiajhQLhwog_6hPnXfyChYD3Sv6fq2kOyCkarcAv0dcYGw2e6kHmnS-2VetpyGEYrCmNetsQGpPjzsLWkDaD63uSKNSEKIv49tJH0K0qRkTOYA27vGySZHW7ptQX55p1a4oeI0M9lP-zesq0p3YwbqwR_2c60EtOHhqpTMSi99NyqMM2Og-F9Buoe4QefkIbcJvgF2jlax3kwYSjr__GsMctxC-c=w1032-h770-no)
I'm obviously much tireder than I realise (and the fact I've been sleeping so well sort of backs this up) and after some pretty intense additions to the village I screwed something up...
Quite an important something actually.
Imself came into the house from sunbathing on the deck to find me bashing the iron on the ironing board, cursing like a navvie and (I'm so ashamed to say this) ripping the quilt :( To be fair it was the square(s) that the iron had just melted through, so they would have had to come out at some point, but maybe just not then, or in that manner ><
He pulled me away and ran upstairs with it .... then sat me down with a glass of wine. He was brilliant!
The next day I came back to it refreshed and sat down and worked out exactly what I had to do and, tho' its not yet finished, I think Im on my way to achieving it.
Pics and commentary if you press the i icon (like in the tuts) at the end of the album.

Oh dear me, though I did have to smile at the thought of you helpless at the bottom of the stairs with the quilt rapidly disappearing out of reach.
Could you not have embroidered Godzilla rising from the waves and wreaking destruction on that part of the village?
-
Imi, your patience amazes me - not surprised you snapped though, with your leg causing you so many problems.
Well done Mr Imi for saving the day!
Hope today goes well, and the progress on the quilt continues.

How about: garden gnomes, a fountain, a crashed helicopter, a construction site with digger, a statue, a lemonade stand...
-
See-saw, sand pit or maypole ?
-
Before I read what Manuela had written, I thought of a fountain or a water feature....erm...a helicopter crash didn't occur to me though :S
PollyWally's idea of a sand pit might be cute with a little bucket and spade.

Ladies, Ladies,
may I once again remind you of the scale of things ...
Slide 1 1/2" tall x 1 1/2" long
Kiddie Car 3/4" sq
Paddling pool 1" x 1/2"
I think a bucket and spade would be cute but .....
-
Train/Railway?
DD bus?
Jessie
-
Couple of goats in someone's front garden?
And as for scale/size, put Elvis to work on embroidering some titchy items :)
-
I was going to say an old banger of a car up on bricks, but I see that the people in that house have lovely clean washing out on the line, so that doesn't really work... ;)
-
I thought maybe a parked pram, as they have such a lovely clean washing out.Although maybe people don’t park prams n their front gardens anymore!

Yesterday I was sooooo tired when I woke that I decided not to do anything major Village wise but sewing needed to be done .. tempus is fugitting relentlessly on ..
So yesterday, after a lil 'gardening' (I finally got rid of the dreaded hand written Duck sign, I got The Opus out and as it was never designed to be hung, took the hanging sleeve and competition entry pocket off ... after a lil alteration on the width of the sleeve I sat down, bit the bullet and calmly hand-sewed the sleeve to The Black and White Jobby, next was the entry pocket and I was done!
Today, I made and attached the sleeve and pocket for The African Queens Quilt and now I'm up to date!
Tomorrow I wont have any more procrastination jobs ready and will have to get back to it ...
Oh and here's the result of my gardening efforts ....

I need to get on with this now ...
I've given myself a cut off date of 30th June to finish the titivating and get on with layering, quilting and binding so must get on ...
My main problem are clouds!
I want some texture, and differences in colour ...
Soaking cotton wool in paint/dye makes them fall apart, same with toy stuffing -<
Painting onto white fabric worked quite well, it was very dark, then dried very light so more experimentation needed !
Any ideas/tips/hints will, as usual, be very much welcomed ...
-
OR Should the clouds be childlike / cartoony ???????
-
Could you use a needle felting needle to add some fibres to the sky to create clouds?
-
Cotton velvet would add some texture and probably take the colour well, but it frays like a fray-y thing.
-
Needle felted whisps is the way to go
-
The top is finished.
It is half layered and Im embarking on Part 2 .
I have my laptop, The Splurgess and Elvis all set up on the table and Yes Im going to need all three"
Wish me luck Please ... Im off into the unknown ......

For texture (asuming you mean a printed texture and not something like velvet!) can you find something printed with wood grain? or something else that's almost stripey like long grass?
-
That was similar to my thoughts BP. I was thinking a reddish brown, glazed cotton perhaps? I used that as background for my Horse cushion, and it worked far better than black against all the colour.
Jessie
-
Mmnnn I was considering a Very dark brown ... Makowers darkest

The darkest colour in that is a very dark brown too.
-
You could be radical and go for a lovely rich dark blue. Looking at your backing, there is quite a bit of blue in there.
Jessie
-
Imi, that's just amazing! I'm not a darksider *shudder*, and don't look in here often, but there is one heck of a lot of sewing in that village. And thought, and inspiration, and planning...
-
Beautiful :)
I agree with @b15erk, a lovely rich blue would be wonderful. For me personally, brown would be too dull and depressing. Such a gorgeous quilt wants a rich 'look at me' colour :)
-
You know how when you're at the beach, boiling hot and need to cool down ???
You stand at the edge of the beach, looking at the beautiful, blue, beckoning sea ...
but you know its going to be absolutely freezing ..
and then you do it, you can bare the heat no more, you run into the surf, screaming and drop down into the waves up to your neck ...
it is freezing, you can barely speak ... and then its Okay, actually more than Okay, its bliss !

@Iminei your smoked almonds made me well up a lil bit. Nice touch.

That is so lovely. You must be very proud!!

Well Ladies, I know I have been absent for a while and that is because Im trying very, very hard to finish this
son of a quilt ... Its been a loooong slog ..
Yesterday I spent around 6 hours .... yes really, not a typo, you read that right SIX .... trying to back the blooming thing!!!! The problem being my backing fabric is a gorgeous, but not to be recommended for backing a quilt, hstathon type fabric ....
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/NmfWemrMgjgx_Dyg7E4cLYZxwB3FoGwObmjWI7PNcLpu9eRC8lRSC3hS-ZBNOy0qHoqqvPbGbDvRHMzAZvUWVQRz7JV4iMOI57TNLGUniYIo6d3v6h0j6wsbj8QPD3exVZKyS5XHQ0C9W34HTEuHUVfFpP7z4SWJfAZ8b_bTnhRtC4J-3rj5j2FMROz5BodoSSrFpv40Vuc2ixiYtuhzj0thdErvwmsZpVGnaNFVSs_uDvP41HEhiwf5wTWBG-qfzhs83Uw0yF5jCQYouDbN5wYEP9SFca02zsIKLPpbb5Gzb0rjK3_s1AQCO9f9Wz95-E3bAxXBefN68kaE82-y2EyIMfThwPLdTn298grbHCaqivFiSkXkAgVtsPOT7xwY05bZXJRaqNVVAB7aM-yVaXx1qMtXu9WkOgZnFhchYNjqUwMOm8v3buqttGh1XyRx0mLQDmMNmx6Nom5LP7bNPjN8tYOIuZGH5G1-1nfNUzJfMTR6vPA9HWMGRMiuV8_pAXvhE3fKDuIe_7hCsgrZPtGmS-NOS__9bTxeDi8HJp-YyCC9Z8JeX8E47LcFwZ56ZvihCFctDc-kOcOTOA0xX-HDHHwaO75Ir3ISQhXHaiDPLdESly39fzxv2J3zN7SVwl-4UoVCQ_WicqtXlNhD3rC5gW4=w1020-h738-no)

but finally after the said number of hours I was reasonably happy ... Its now too big and heavy to pin to any of my other hangings and has taken over the lounge! D'OH! (I did make a promise to Imself that our beautiful, newly decorated lounge would not become a quilt workshop/storage facility ... but hey! the whole house is a quilt workshop/ storage facility!!
Amongst the many highlights of my SIX hour marathon was feeding the Mei when she came down from a much needed nap around noon, when ... and I still don't quite know how I did this ... on the short walk from the worktop, where I smoosh up her food, to her room, where she eats, I managed to double flip her bowl which then landed on the floor t'other side of the table on which The Village was resting.
Needless to say the food which micro moments before was in said bowl had settled on said table, millimetres from the quilt!!!!! well, all but one rogue morsel which I quickly pincered off ....
To say the Mei was surprised to be asked to lick food off the table (she is after all a very well brought up Siamese) is an understatement, but she rose to the challenge and I washed the table down afterwards with Fairy and cold water. (Oh yes, did I tell you, our boiler gave up the ghost on Monday!)
I think it was during the 5th go round of pinning the backing to ensure that it was square that I decided enough was enough, that and the fact that my fingers were bleeding and sore ... and so it rests waiting for the new day ... there is enough blood, spit, sweat and tears in that thing now for it officially to be called a labour of love!
Adieu dear friends and interested parties, Adieu xxx
-
I was worried you were going to say you'd injured yourself somehow and was back to square-one with your foot. :S
'...on the short walk from the worktop...' I was afraid to read beyond this bit, in case you went on to say something like..... 'I slipped on something on the floor, did the splits and spent a few hours at A & E again. Now back in plaster.'
Phew.
Sorry no pic showing for me at the moment, but not to worry.
You'll need a break away from this and all sewing when you've finished it.
Sandra.

What a drama. You'll need a medal of valour by the time this gets displayed. :toast:
@Iminei pics?
-
The Adventure of the Cat's Dinner!! I'm so sorry Im, I laughed out loud at the image of the food flying through the air, and a cartoon Imi desperately trying to stop it hitting the Village....
Priceless!
Jessie
eta No Pic though :(
-
How about now, and all pics of the whole rotton saga (reference please?) can be found
here (https://photos.app.goo.gl/U71u4zJVuoWCc9xE2)....
-
@Iminei I think you should consider writing a book to accompany 'The Village' (in the style of Under Milkwood) incorporating all your trials and tribulations along the way.
-
I have done quite well today, tho' the backing might be a right bugger to line up, its bliss to sew through.
So I have quilted some gardens and outlined the skyline ... more on Sunday, tomorrow I go to the hairdresser courtesy of Imself (driving not paying) ... I currently look like cousin IT!!!
-
Just catching up with this thread, Imi it is wonderful but I don't get the smoked almonds reference (doesn''t help I read it as sugered almonds!).
Welling up at Fruit and Veges.
-
Step away from the Village, Iminei .....
I've had to step away from TV as I have tension issues with The Splurgess.
Is it because the reel of thread is coming to an end ???
I dont know ... but that in itself behoves another problem; Im right at the end of one of my greens (Oh Yes ... Lowena is going to loooove this quilt ... so many greens!)
So what to do ... Sensible Imi has stepped away from TV, turned off TS and is tapping away on here ... better that than try to continue, lose it and go down another avenue ... No OH to snatch the offending article away you see, and if he did, this time I could be hard on his heels up the stairs!
So a break ... Should I attempt a slow walk onto town to see if I can replace the Green ??? I have used it a lot and it might be noticed if it was suddenly absent ...
Return to TV in an hour ??? hoping the tension issues are resolved?
Or lose a precious day of work ???? and come to it fresh in the morning?
Decisions,. decisions

Step away from the Village, Iminei .....
So a break ... Should I attempt a slow walk onto town to see if I can replace the Green ??? I have used it a lot and it might be noticed if it was suddenly absent ... NO. It's going to be the hottest day the year and it will wear you out. So not the best idea to do that today IMHO.
Return to TV in an hour ??? hoping the tension issues are resolved? No. Hope won't resolve the issues .
Or lose a precious day of work ???? and come to it fresh in the morning? YES definitely! That sounds like the best idea all round. Get a cold drink, chill out and relax and you will be better able to deal with it tomorrow all fresh and ready for the challenge ahead!

OK a day off from TV!
But I did wander very carefully and slowly into town to get some green, so I am ready to go tomorrow morning with no delays.
It wasn't too hot a walk as there was quite a strong, warm breeze ... I enjoyed it, like being on holiday in the Med!
Although my foot is complaining ever so slightly.

Are you able to get some more thread locally? There's some online at Jaycotts. Delivery usually pretty quick..within 2 - 3 days, although I realise you're running out of time.
Good luck.
Sandra.

No, nothing locally.
I have found some at The Little House of Patchwork and have bought it. I have sent them a message ... (Why do all P&Q shops close at 4pm ????) begging them to send out as soon as is possible ...
I'm using it as the bobbin thread as it matches the backing so beautifully, I have a lil left on the bobbin and this ....

I’d give Jaycotts a ring and see what they can do. Lady Sew and Sew also have some on their website if you want to try them too.

Galway (https://www.quiltyarnstitch.com/product/v91-great-barrier-reef-thread-pastel-machine-quilting-yli-cotton)
Found this one. Probably be with you tomorrow or the next day from there. :[ Good luck.
-
@StitchinTime Lady SewnSew were my first call yesterday afternoon.....
Jane said there was one in the box but it turned out to be another colourway that someone had misplaced there! AAggh!! They have great customer service and if they had one I would be receiving it this morning or tomorrow at the latest.
Im hoping that Cherry Tree fabrics (Boscombe, about 20 miles away) have some ... I have a friend who lives nearby and hes willing to get it to me today if they do!
Midsomer Quilting probably will have it but they are closed til Friday and an hour and a half from me!
-
Cherry Tree fabrics sounds promising. Fingers crossed.
Do you have lots more quilting to do?
Sandra.

No, that's whats infuriating  ... just 3 lines in the border!!!!

Only 3 lines!? Aaaaaaargh!!
Take deep breaths....this is do-able. It's just a little hiccup. You'll get the thread and then it will be done.
Breathe in through the nose.....hmmmmmmmmmm
And out through the mouth....whooooooooooooooo

Dunno about you @Sandra, but I'm stressed to bits!!!
I don't know how you do it @Iminei. You must have nerves of steel.

Jaycotts!!!!
Lovely calm man called John says he will send it out immediately ... reasonable postage too!
So I'll simmer down to Defcon 2 until it pops through my letterbox .. Please God ... tomorrow!
I can make the binding while I'm waiting .....
-
Phew!
Jaycotts are pretty good. They're my go-to place for zips and stuff because I know the order will arrive within a day or two. I'm so pleased you've got it sorted out. :)
Sandra.

-
I'm so pleased you've got it sorted out.
SSShhhh!!! Dont jinx it!!!
So today I have
cut, joined and pressed the binding
Made a fabric envelope for the back of TV (to hold the entry slip)
and attached the labels to the packaging,
Cant really do anymore so might hobble into town to get something for dinner.
Apart from Threadgate, we have just been told our Home Emergency Insurance is NOT going to repair our boiler (we have been without hot water or heating for the last 15 days) and my Insurance company are trying to get a settlement out of them (sigh) and a big part of our fence has blown down in the wind and Imself has had to cut back down our lovely evergreen clematis and a large part of our bamboo ... Oh and the gate wont stay closed because the archway has moved!
-
Wouldn't you know it....just as you had everything super ready...dratted wind.
-
IT IS DONE!!!!!
It has been quilted, bound, hanging sleeve hand stitched on (remarkably pleasant experience considering my loathing of HS) and is Hung.
The first time I tried to hang it it was all skew-whiff ....
AAAGGGHHHH!! I thought my heart might stop!!
What had happened?? It was fine when I hung it with the hanging sleeve pinned ... What could I have done wrong????
I took it down, took the Dowel out of the sleeve and found the culprit, a rogue yellow pin!!!
Rehung it and ... It hangs beautifully! Well as nice as it can ...
and will hang better at FOQ as they use laths rather than 2" round dowels
'Scuse the pic; its the only place I can hang it .... a narrow landing
Im leaving it to hang while I have some lunch and then will do the final press (Oh yes; no pressing has gone on in that pic btw) and add the few embellishments I want to and then .... It's done!

What are the white bits which are pinned on?

What are the white bits which are pinned on?
Oh I thought they would add extra interest ......
No they are bits of calico protecting some of the more vulnerable details: those that could melt under the iron or rip whilst I was spinning it around on The Splurgess
-
Sooo beautiful! I can't wait to see it
as I may have said once or a hundred times before.

Aha, thanks for the explanation. Looking forward to seeing it at FOQ...... if they haven't disbanded the category :D :D

Oh Imi I didn't realise that at all....how sweet of you....what a thoughtful thing to do.....and boy does the memory of her keep coming and coming......I saw a car registration the other day....yep....veg.....and yesterday while browsing around many of the topics I've not seen or read yet was one from vegegrow.....how special she was.
Thank you so much for all the effort you have given to this created and stitched memorium for our dearly love Jane.

Imself asked for a pic of the finished item yesterday and apart from the one I took on the angle, I have realised I forgot to take a good face on one! D'OH!
Probably because there was nowhere that could support it that I could stand back far enough to get a good pic! (Note to self, Ask Imself to put up some more brackets!)

Oh, I like these detailed pictures and love the embroidered quotes: how touching. What a lovely tribute <3
-
That's poetry. @Iminei it's truly a work of art, what a lovely memorial to Vege.
-
It's absolutely beautiful lminei. You must be thrilled with it!
-
I am so impressed with your work @Iminei - it's absolutely beautiful and a lovely tribute to Vegegrow
-
Gorgeous. Your most recent photos are not showing for me....whaa!

<3 <3 <3

It's just beautiful @Iminei I had seen the Fruit and Vege shop but hadn't realised the other connections. The sky writing is a unique touch.

Thank you Plosh, unfortunately the Pictorials and miniatures were stuck in the a**e end of beyond with naturally dodgy lighting ... add to that the fact that the Pictorial section had been omitted from the floorplan and lots of peeps couldnt find them!
But I did feel that Vege had finally made it to FOQ!
-
Yes. The miniature quilts were as far away as possible from the entrance on the furthest and most distant wall. I very nearly couldn't be bothered to turn that last corner to see what was there, but I'm glad I did.
Sandra.

I'm currently compiling a one bear and his buddies visit to FOQ album Sandra ...

I couldn't find it at FOQ until directed to the right place by TSP's own steward Pearl :)

What an amazing piece of work... and a splendid tribute to 'Vege'.
I've been lurking here, admiring and in awe, but just had to comment.
-
Thank you @Bookish, maybe now we have lured you to break cover you'll post a lil more!
-
@Bookish you been lurking since March?!?!?! Come in, sit down, pull up a chair. :)
-
Thank you, I will post more... promise.
I'm a garment sewer (me, granddaughter and her dolls) but you of The Dark Side are truly awesome... colors, precision (garments you can fudge ;)) and, gulp, geometry. Thanks for all your wonderful work.
-
colors, precision... and... geometry
It's the only use I've found for geometry since I left school (not very) recently!
-
I couldn't do geometry at school but have had no problem since drafting patterns for quilting, sewing and on one occasion making a unit to fit into an alcove.
-
@Bookish ... well why dont you dip your toe into the Dar arts and try one of our excellent BOM tutorials?
