I have been making a disappearing nine patch for DS1 forever.  The end is in sight but I'm having a wobble about the size.

I have made twenty four 12" blocks so it is currently 48"x 72".  I intend to add two borders.  My dilemma:- would it be better to make another six blocks so that it is 5 blocks wide by 6 blocks long or to make it up to the required size with borders.

The simple version is:- Is 12" too wide for a border (2 borders)?

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Disappointment
« on: January 27, 2018, 08:57:56 AM »
I am trying to concentrate on my UFOs this year but had booked a workshop, 'Transversions', with Jan Hassard in February.  This was the only new project I was allowing myself until I have 3 or 4 finished.  This week, I received a call to tell me that the workshop has been cancelled.   :(

In the wardrobe / Dressmaking for (Dummies) Beginners
« on: January 10, 2018, 14:58:56 PM »
So I have a pattern (Simplicity 4149) and I'd like to make the tunic.  I've started to look at fabric.  I love this (the blue floral one).  Would it be suitable?  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-Meter-Indian-Hand-Block-Print-Cotton-Fabric-Dress-Making-Fabric-By-The-Meter/322815524201?hash=item4b294dfd69:m:mls66XgOq-WKSXajchk8Axw

Also, what do I do with the pattern?  Do I just cut it along the solid lines. TIA

A Good Yarn / Temperature blanket
« on: January 07, 2018, 09:34:18 AM »
This idea popped up on fb this week so I thought I'd give it a go.  I have allocated a colour to each temperature range and am knitting two rows of garter stitch every day in the colour that corresponds with the maximum temperature for the day.  So far, its very blue but I think today may be lavender!  At the end of each month, I am going to do two rows of black or perhaps grey.

Current Projects / Four Patch Chain
« on: November 29, 2017, 09:42:51 AM »
Well, there is only one more session of my Four Patch Chain BOM class.  In last week's class, my classmates were putting on their borders and basting, while I was finishing the last of my blocks.  I fell behind when I missed a couple of classes early on and never really caught up but now the end is in sight.

Today I am going to piece the sashing.  The first instruction is cut 124 triangles and I've done that!

I'm starting this thread in the hope that it will spur me on.

Here is one of the blocks.  They are all made with Marti Michell's templates (never again!).

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Scraps
« on: November 12, 2017, 08:34:39 AM »
May I ask how you organise your scraps?

Currently, mine are thrown in two boxes, one for bigger scraps and one for smaller scraps but when I'm looking for something, I have to look through both boxes.  I'm wondering if it would be better to organise them by colour (or just to throw the small scraps away).  My sewing room is a mess and I usually end up working in the dining room.  I think if I got better organised, I might achieve more.

TIA

Wool Warehouse, those purveyors of beautiful yarn, beautifully presented in an organza drawstring bag, promptly delivered, sell fabric!  Lots of it.  All the top designers.  Reasonably priced.  Who knew?  And they are close enough for me to pop by and collect it.

A Good Yarn / 10 Stitch Twist
« on: August 12, 2017, 19:10:48 PM »
Hi
Has anyone knitted a 10 Stitch Twist blanket?  I have finished a Ten Stitch blanket and have begun the Twist (round) version.  I have knitted the circle and decreased so that I have one stitch left.  Not sure what to do next.  The videos I have found are either in German or the knitter is holding the wool in her left hand.   :o :S :[ :(
Please help!

I have wanted to do big stitch quilting for a while, have been watching videos and am thinking the Mystery Quilt may be the opportunity I've been looking for.  But I'm not sure whether to you a hoop or not.  Should I add 'quilting hoop' to my FOQ shopping list?   TIA
