« on: February 18, 2020, 16:29:56 PM »
I finished this shirt last night and will put it in the February shirt competition, although it wasn’t my first choice of fabric from my stash. It’s a bit big though, will size down for the next one.

Patterns Discussion / Closet Case Clare coat pattern
« on: February 01, 2020, 11:31:59 AM »
I’m in the middle of making this coat in a yellow faux mohair. https://store.closetcasepatterns.com/products/clare-coat-pattern-pdf-download
I’m using canvas interfacing and am surprised that although the instructions have you fully interface the front pieces and side panels, the back piece, cut on the fold, is only interfaced at the top between the shoulder blades and the hem. I would have thought that the back needs the same support as the front and sides. What do you think?

In the wardrobe / Simple knit dress
« on: January 27, 2020, 11:05:08 AM »
This is McCalls 6886 https://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6886
hacked to add a side slit with buttons. I was going to do buttonholes but my machine was playing up with these and I decided not to risk it. I went with suggestions from @Lachica to put in snaps instead with buttons on top. There is a slight wobble on this photo in the slit even though I put in fusible interfacing to stabilise it. I’m intending to try steaming it to see if that comes out also will try starch.

In the wardrobe / Closet Case Kalle Shirtdress
« on: January 14, 2020, 19:43:07 PM »
I registered for a workshop at Sewisfaction in December based on making shirts using the Kalle shirt pattern but it had to be postponed due to illness of the tutor. As I had cut this for the workshop and patience has never been my strong point

In the wardrobe / Stripes for me too!
« on: November 08, 2019, 15:39:22 PM »
I finished this top a couple of days ago, it’s Vogue 8950, here   The navy and yellow is a loop back jersey and the yellow is from a remnant bought in France. In hindsight a simple yellow Ponte would have been better for the yoke as they would have been a similar weight. Instead this is a heavy fleece back jersey which has very little stretch.

The neckline was way too wide for me for a winter top so I had to put a neckband on which is where the no stretch issue really caused me a problem. The first one I cut wouldn’t fit the opening no matter how hard I tried. The resulting neckline is I feel slightly loose but not so much that I won’t wear it, I’m reasonably happy with it.

In the wardrobe / Cardigan and shirt
« on: November 02, 2019, 08:13:02 AM »
My latest makes are this cardi McCall’s 6996 View C. This is a knit fabric bought in France, I am concerned it will snag very easily.

Before that I made https://www.sewdirect.com/butterick-b6026/ in a cream cotton seersucker again bought in France. Buttons were ordered from The Textile Garden, I have never bought from them before but was pleased with the selection.

In the wardrobe / A trio of dresses
« on: September 25, 2019, 09:37:39 AM »
Hi, I’ve been away from here for a while, but I’m back! I have been sewing though, seem to have had a summer stuck on making dresses! They are my favourite thing to make especially for the summer.

First was a Closet Case Charlie Kaftan, this was my first ever Indie pattern and I love it.
Second was Vogue 1500 https://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v1500 The shoes are the wrong ones for this, don’t know what I was thinking!!

A little less sure about this one although I love the pattern. The main fabric was a linen which I washed a dried 3 times as recommended on a website ( which I now can’t find!
