Hello and welcome @keepitsimple.  I'm not from Brum but quite near in Walsall and I've been to Brum loads of times.

@Bodgeitandscarper - I was born in Sutton Coldfield (where I was born is now a car park!) but we moved to Streetly when I was 4.

He/she is so cute Sandra.

@PollyWally - I have found cross-stitch more fiddly than embroidery. I started a very cheap and small Easter cross-stitch kit and have never finished it - maybe next year!

The first embroidery kit I tackled was great and I was quite pleased with finished product.

Embroidery is another soft craft I have tried late in life so not much to show yet. I started off with a kit that taught me basic stitches and was pleased with result.

I have since tried some Rowandean kits which I have loved working on as they are less prescribed and have the beads as well as threads. I want to move on to crewel work but I am slow plus have quilting and crochet to tackle as well.

@Bodgeitandscarper:laughing: Ahh, they are lovely. We have an American Akita but she's an old lady at 9 years old. I'm trying to find a pic of her when she was a puppy to use as my avatar as she was so cute.

@Sandra -  yes, not too far away. I used to work in Wolverhampton which was even nearer to you.

@Bodgeitandscarper - love your user name and your pic. Are they your dogs?

Your quilt looks lovely  - beautiful combinations of colour.  I have nine pieced blocks and can't even get myself to put them together so I am in awe of your achievement.

Hello and welcome to TSP.  We all started somewhere - back in the mists of time.

You will have realised by now that any stray self professed quilt police quickly get locked up in Acorn's shed in the depths of a large patch of brambles surrounded by stinging nettles, so your quilt can be whatever you want it to be, but bravo on choosing flying geese  and diagonal cuts for your first attempt.

The crochet police never caught up with me so I'm sure I can escape the clutches of the quilt police. I am very much a "that'll do, no-one will ever know" crafter so what are a few puckers between friends?

Thank you all for the lovely welcome.

I wouldn't use the word "mastered" but I've had a shot at them (not that I approve of shooting geese!).

Hi Everyone,

I have been reading posts on The Sewing Place for the last few weeks and thought it was about time I joined in.  I am a complete newbie, not only to this forum but also to sewing.  I started crocheting at the beginning of the first lockdown and then decided to move on to embroidery, cross-stitch and then saw some quilting on a TV channel and was fascinated by the colours and patterns.

I knew I had to have a go at quilting and started learning to use a sewing machine only last year.  My first experience had been at school (back in the dim and distant past) and it used to drive me to tears.  I couldn't even thread the machine!  I have now completed 7 patchwork squares (those flying geese have kept my unpicker busy  :boohoo:) and really love seeing them come together.  I am going to try QAYG when all squares are completed as I don't have space to sandwich a full quilt, let alone quilt it.

I am in awe of all of your experience and skill.  I'm hoping a bit of it will rub off on me
