A Good Yarn / Knitting Christmas decorations
« on: December 01, 2021, 09:21:27 AM »
Not something i usually do, I tried a couple of free patterns for snowmen but they didn’t look great ok but not special. Then I saw this one and thought no i am not paying that, well about ten minutes later i bought it and it is the most comprehensive pattern for something simple I have ever seen.
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/shiversome

I started knitting last night and it starts with a pin hole cast on which I have never used before, I am seriously impressed, probably worth buying the pattern for.

After Christmas my cat gets them as toys.

Sewing Machines / Help what needle Janome
« on: November 10, 2021, 17:30:21 PM »
I have my lovely new Janome 6700 and am trying some of the lovely stitches on quilting fabric on the iron on wading to make a bag and I don’t know which needle to use. Normally I would just pick a normal 80 but I have Janome needles Blue tip red tip etc and wondered what everyone else uses.

Don’t want to post this on the quilting board as I might get caught creeping into the dark side

I am looking for something fun, wintery and maybe a bit ch——y f abric.  In a cotton jersey to make another nightdress, I don’t want to spend a fortune on it but everything I find I like has green in it, or cost a fortune,  I also don’t want it see through yes there is some out there.

I never wear green my Mum had a real thing about not wearing or even having it in the house, I think the garden was ok :S she did have grass, since I lost her I seem to have a real problem with it to, it is amazing how difficult it is to avoid in pattern fabrics especially as I like pinks, blue and purples they seem to always stick green in with it.

If anyone sees anything can they let me know.   Off to do some more research

Luckily green has never been a favourite colour of mine and I can usually avoid it.

I went to a WI meeting about climate change along with that and a comment by Patric Grant i am looking at what we have left when we sew garments. Apparently home sewers waste about 30% of all the fabric we buy.

My problem is I use a lot of stretch fabrics, at the moment i have 2 lots of left over scraps i am about to bin but have stopped myself and am going to make something from them.  Would anyone join in?

Could we set up a thread for something like this?

Let me know what you think?

In the wardrobe / Remake from Primark hoodie
« on: September 27, 2021, 10:12:33 AM »
Yesterday i was sorting out more clothes and found a nearly new hoodie in a lovely shade of red, I don’t wear it because it has the most horrible zip, heavy metal and stiff.

I was about to throw it out when I remembered i had had trouble trying to but some cheap sweatshirts in bright colours that are long enough, so I have unpicked the zip and tacked the front together, now i just have to decide if I am going to take the hood off. Hopefully photos will follow

Has anyone else good hacks for ready made items

A Good Yarn / AUTUMN SOCK KNIT ALONG. 2023 New
« on: September 08, 2021, 10:54:04 AM »
I mentioned last month that it might be nice to do a Sock knit along this month so if anyone is interested shall we start, I was thinking of starting next week.

I am not thinking of any hard and fast rules but I will post some notes and links on Monday for anyone who needs any help or inspiration.  In the meantime maybe you would like to look out some sock wool there are loads of different types out there and of course you can use thicker yarn if you want heavier socks.

Hope to see you here soon, if you have any question or suggestions please let me know.

I am not buying a new machine, repeat after me, I am not buying a new machine.

I did say i would buy myself a machine just because I wanted it when I retired, I do have 3 lovely machines but I am wondering if it would be a good idea to try to combine at least 2 and also to buy a machine for fun not work.

I would love to have this one but look at the price https://www.franknutt.co.uk/janome-m7-continental_janome-m7-continental-sewing-machine.  I wondered if the 6700 would perhaps make a good alternative.

Now off to hide in the corner @Lowena   at least I could have less machines

In the wardrobe / New Jalie Patterns
« on: August 12, 2021, 09:22:42 AM »
Have you seen these https://jalie.com/collections/latest-sewing-patterns?_kx=8JvT4tuq_lv92g-AYTHXFNMMSMTBrPN5tlIZUWS5hOK142fJni6pkj4Kd3WwFm-4.RrSdk4
I have used several of their top patterns and find them really good, they also work well as block style patterns I have often adapted them to make dresses etc. I have only tried 1 pants pattern and that didn’t work too well for me, Style Arc pants fit better for me.

I haven’t really looked at the new ones yet  but I will when I get back from Ma in laws. as if I need more patterns???
