Vintage Machines / Husqvarna Viking Free Arm zig zag rotary
« on: May 04, 2021, 10:17:01 AM »
I saw this machine in my local charity shop for £30 but didn't have time to check it over.
Does anyone know anything about them - would they be a reasonable risk purchase for a vintage machine (e.g, getting spares/accessories/parts for repair)?
The original brochure is with it and I'm guessing it only had 1 owner ....
Any views from our vintage "experts" here on TSF?
TIA

Sewing Machines / Needle hitting stitch plate QE4
« on: April 24, 2021, 12:35:12 PM »
I noticed this morning that the stitch plate seems to have moved fractionally so that the needle is not aligned and is hitting the plate when stitching.  I replaced the needle yesterday and have been using the machine since then yesterday with no problem, this only happened this morning.
Any ideas what the cause could be?
TIA

The Haberdashery / Knitting row counter
« on: April 09, 2021, 22:50:31 PM »
Dies anyone have a favourite make of knitting row counter?
I find the small ones are always getting mislaid and I'm currently using a pen/paper.   I just wondered if someone knows of a clever design/make.
TIA

A Good Yarn / Knitting pattern instruction confusion
« on: April 05, 2021, 16:22:53 PM »

I can't understand the instructions on a pattern - it says;  *k2, [p2, k2] twice; rep from *
If I do that twice is it 10 stitches or 12 stitches?
help please !!!

Patterns Discussion / Blue Dot Dover jacket
« on: March 26, 2021, 15:53:52 PM »
This is a nice, comfortable, but not over-sized top which is intended to be a jacket but certainly works as a top.
It started off as a toile, but I think its good enough to wear in public :).  It could also be a useful summer housecoat/dressing gown.
It went together easily and I'll definitely make it again in a heavier fabric (it would probably drape better) as a lightweight jacket.
Any comments/observations/criticisms welcomed :D :D  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

There's a very large selection of $2 patterns here.  I bought the Sewera party dress which includes an FBA option.

Patterns Discussion / Style arc Becky Joga pant pattern
« on: February 25, 2021, 16:14:50 PM »
I want to make these pants but the length is SOOO long - my inside leg is 27" and the pattern finished length is 31.5".  I think shortening them up by that much will really make them look odd.
Has any one made this pattern up?  If so, do they think the length adjustment would work?
TIA

In the wardrobe / style arc Jules Tunic

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  Just finished this (made from £2 pr metre viscose from Immanuels via FB).
I think it was @Lowena who introduced us to this pattern (but I could be wrong so feel free to correct me so the credit can go the right person).   It went together really well and was a pretty quick make.  I'll definitely make it again, as its a nice fit without being oversized.   :sew: :sew: :sew:
Forgive my poor memory - sorry @Acorn credit goes to you :|

House Beautiful / replacement rings for roman blind
« on: February 16, 2021, 16:10:33 PM »
My nieghbour needs to replace the rings on the back of her roman blind I hope its possible to just buy the rings in a packet (a bit like curtain hooks).  Her rings are metal, whereas the accessories I've seen are plastic - presumably they function the same way?
TIA

Sewing Machines / Pfaff QE 4.2
« on: February 14, 2021, 17:05:03 PM »
Now I've spent some hours using this machine  :sew: I thought I should make some positive observations about it...

The sensormatic buttonhole foot is really smooth and easy to use  IMO it's a clever feature.

Stitch no 2 (believe this is the triple stretch straight stitch) makes a very impressive top stitch

It's fast  0_0

Sewing Machines / Pfaff 4.2 persistent error message
« on: February 12, 2021, 12:31:41 PM »
I am getting a persistent error message:  "remove thread jam under the stitch plate".  I have removed the plate, removed the bobbin 4 timesand there is NO thread under the plate, its clean and lint free.  I've switched the mchine on and off several times, but the error message remains.
The machine won't stitch at all.    :scream:
Does anyone know what I should try next ?
ALSO - when i the feed dogs are now in the down position and wont respond when i use the feed dog lever.
If I lift the feed dogs GENTLY with a screwdriver, then they do rise. Any ideas on this problem?

Thanks in advance
Annie
