Its on offer at Amazon and I like the dress patterns.  Is it a good buy?

Patterns Discussion / Style Arc Linda top/dress
« on: January 27, 2022, 14:54:52 PM »
Here's a picture of the SA Linda top which I've made with the £2 pm olive-coloured corduroy bought from Immanuels.
What I do not like about this pattern is the wide sleeves as I like an elbow length sleeve and always think the sleeve doesn't drape well.
Option might be to add a button/buttonhole above the elbow and button it closed when wearing?
Lovely bit of fabric but the beginners error I made is that I did not pre-wash it -so I bet this shrinks  :scream:

Sewing Machines / Pfaff part lost!
« on: January 08, 2022, 16:17:17 PM »
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  My latest disaster  :embarrassed: :embarrassed: is that I tried to clean the inside of the QE4.2 bobbin area and the little knife.
A part became loose during this process (see attached picture) and I've now lost the screw :scream: :scream:
Does anyone know what size of screw this might need?  I've googled the part number 413 0071 but without success.
As usual, any help much appreciated.

Embroidery Machines / Craving an embroidery machine
« on: January 02, 2022, 11:50:50 AM »
Looking at the cards @realale made (absolutely ADORE the can-can reindeer ), its inspired me to want an embroidery machine (I can see @Iminei rolling her eyes ;)
Even though its taken me many years, I've built up a bit of confidence with quilting and so I think I'd like to try embroidery.
Anybody got any idea what machine would be a good starting point?  I'd definitely be looking 2nd hand as I'm pretty sure a new one would be out of my budget.
Happy New Year and TIA for any advice.

Access All Accessories / another bag from a free YT Tutorial
« on: December 18, 2021, 15:50:12 PM »
Here's a bag made following the Sailrite YT tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEnaFutDodg
I used oilcloth from Immanuels @ £2 per metre so it wasn't an expensive experiment.
The instructions were easy to follow but the oilcloth was a **** to work with - the roller foot definitely helped but stitching through many layers to create the pleated base was a little difficult and I will have to reinforce the sides.
Also the top stitching on the handles and bottom panel didn't come out very neatly.
When you have the shiny side of the oilcloth both on the underneath and top of a piece (e.g., folding and stitching the handles) the underneath does stick, but I don't know if there's a solution to that.
I'd make this bag again in a thicker fabric, but not oilcloth - although its the oilcloth that gives it the body and helps it stand up on its own.

Sewing Machines / pfaff embroidery foot
« on: December 16, 2021, 13:39:56 PM »
I'm researching either the foot 6d or the sensormatic embroidery foot for the Pfaff QE4.2
Does anyone have any experience with either of these and, if so, which would they recommend.
Its basically to be used for a bit of free motion quilting.
Thanks in advance.

Access All Accessories / cat bag
« on: December 14, 2021, 15:46:15 PM »
A couple of pictures of a simple bag made as an extra christmas pressie for my sister who is a cat lover.  It was only a small piece.  The fabric is made in Japan.

Does anyone have a pfaff roller and/or Tefon foot they might want to sell?  It needs to be compatible with the Pfaff QE4.2 which is a 9mm machine.
Many thanks in advance.

Fun with Fabric / sewing with fur fabric
« on: December 12, 2021, 17:43:24 PM »
I was making a child's tote bag with some fur fabric but noticed that I was itching after working with it so I've decided to abandon that fabric and use a needlecord or similar.
Has anyone else noticed that fur fabric makes them itch?

Access All Accessories / bag making - interfacing question.
« on: December 08, 2021, 15:03:46 PM »
I'm making a fur fabric (teddy bear type fur) toddler tote bag for a 3 year old.  The pattern says to interface, but as the fabric is quite thick and stretchy, I'm wondering what type to use.
Can I use curtain interlining as a sew-in interfacing rather than a fusible ?
Advice would be greatly appreciated.

The Haberdashery / mid-size iron
« on: December 06, 2021, 16:47:31 PM »
Does anyone know of a mid-size iron (half-way between travel and full size) to use for sewing?  I've got a travel iron but its too light and small, and my full size iron is bulky and takes  up a lot of space on my small worktable.
The idea is to have an iron which is to hand when making bags etc and pressing seams.  It doesn't need to do major pressing.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not the best of instructions, but pretty easy to follow nonetheless.

Access All Accessories / chubby tote bag free pattern
« on: December 04, 2021, 14:50:33 PM »
I made this from a very easy to follow YT Tutorial.  There are problems with the bag (interfacing not smooth, wobbly top stitching), but the shape is great IMO.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BP1XmLjeK68&t=14s
The handle was made from vinyl folded to the inside (like bias binding) and zigzagged.  Its a bit clumsy but I would use this method again but with a shorter stitch length.
