Technical Help / Re: Sleevies.
« on: May 10, 2019, 11:55:30 AM »
Thanks @annieeg. I probably will do it the way they say as I have used that method before many centuries ago. I just wondered was it the easiest...pardon the pun!  0_0
ps what was so bad about your fabric. I'm not using quilted this time but I might if I do it again.
@wrenkins
See attached pics .. the fabric is so awful.... but the coat has a good shape and a nice fit across the shoulders.
I would definitely make it again, but buy a nicer (more expensive) fabric. :(

@wrenkins
I've actually made that pattern following their instructions (I don't recall a lot of ease at the top of the sleeve) and it went together really well.
If I can I'll find the coat and take a picture for you.
(I really like the fit, but the fabric I chose was dreadful :()

Patterns Discussion / FBA - Yet again
« on: May 10, 2019, 10:33:49 AM »
On the subject of UFO's, I have a "learning" UFO to tackle. :'(
Learning how to do an FBA - I have such a MENTAL BLOCK about this, I'm absolutely sure I can't do it (it intimidates me as much as  algebra lessons did at school!)
I know there's been a lot of posts on this subject and I wondered if anyone can recommend an on-line course that takes you through the process by way of lessons e.g., FBA for Dummies.
(I have the Full Busted DVD but I don't find that very easy to follow.)
I did ask at Merchant and Mills workshop but they don't do customised classes. :'(
Thanks for any suggestions.

My workshop started at 10.00am so........having bought my RC, mat and ruler when I arrived and chosen my fabrics (about 6 or eight plus background) I spent the next six hours, with time out for lunch, making 16x8" log cabin blocks, QAYGing them (I presume cos they're quilted) and assembling them into a Christmas Tree pattern. I got the backing and binding cut and was shown how to attach it as the class finished at 4.00pm. (had it not been for the tee-heeing and chin wagging, we'd have finished easily!
5-6 weeks?!?!?!?! Going how slow exactly?  :o  :o  :o
We were given a worksheet/pattern and we worked from that with help from the lady.  0_0
@wrenkins
My suggestion of 6 weeks was taken from Imi's comment about doing a cot quilt tutorial over that period.  (Mind you, I'm so slow I might need 6 wks to make a D9P! 0_0)

@Iminei
You could always check out the cost of a 6 week craft courses at local colleges.
Say £90 for 6 weeks x 2 hours.  (Works out at £15 per session for the students and if you had 5 students you'd earn 450.)

Lovely Scandinavian quilt!

@Iminei
I wanted to flag to you that my view of your tutorial was not coming from an entirely potential student perspective.
I did a C&G 7307 Adult Education Teaching Certificate back in the late 90's and taught adult ed classes at night school and at a college.
I had to do lesson plans, aims and outcomes, etc etc so I do know a little bit about teaching adults.
The point of this message is to tell you - your session seems well planned and you've thought about your student's likely level of knowledge and pitched the teaching at the right level.
One piece of advice - DO NOT OFFER free tuition; if they want to carry on and you want to facilitate a Stitch/Bitch session then that's fine, but ask for a small participation fee.
Your time/knowledge/skill is valuable - so don't give it away, even if from an evangelical perspective you want to teach the world to quilt 0_0 0_0 0_0 0_0
(I hope this post doesn't sound patronising - my motive comes from respect and admiration for your talent.)
Good luck.

A bit of a 'do' / Re: Mother of the Groom

@Bodgeitandscarper
How difficult would it be to add short sleeves to that dress ?
(I really like the pattern but NEVER do sleeveless).

It's the janome overlocker air threader 2000.
However I've now decided to stick with the Elna overlocker and invest in a new Coverstitcher in due course.

This is on offer at £749 (I've been thinking of buying one for ages) and they'll do me a Part-Ex on the Brother Innovis 27SE I'm looking to sell.

Is this a no-brainer deal @ £629?

(I spend small amounts of money pretty easily, but when it comes to larger amounts - I panic!)
Surely, I tell myself, the hours I will no longer spend threading my old ELNA 744 will be worth the money?

Love the outfit and the buttons are the finishing touch.
That jacket looks great with that single button (less is more, as they say).
Going to have to buy that pattern - the collar is soooo effective. 0_0

These months I think that this is part of a puzzle to form a larger picture ... the other pieces that will follow in the coming months. Two of these look like they fit together, but I can't see the canoe :S that someone claims to be able to see on the MMQ site.
