Title: Curtain fabric serendipity
Post by: BrendaP on October 11, 2017, 11:23:13 AM
I've been looking online at curtain fabrics and I quite liked this (https://www.fashioninteriors.co.uk/designers-guild-couture-rose-orchidea-fabric-fdg2474-01/p155785.html) but expensive and the long vertical repeat would be very wasteful to match the pattern.

Then I found this (https://thecurtainworks.com/curtain-fabrics/orchid-fuchsia/) which I like just as much and the 64cm pattern repeat will mean very little wastage.

I emailed DD a list of possible fabrics, including these two, to see if she has any of them in her pattern books.  She doesn't have a sample of the second one, but can get it (at trade price  :*).  So I've sent for a sample which I hope will arrive in today's post.

Then yesterday evening she sent me a photo of a lampshade which she found under her work table!  It's been there since she relaunched her business 4 years ago and indeed if you look at her website http://www.ruffetsinteriors.co.uk/interiors (http://www.ruffetsinteriors.co.uk/interiors)  there's a photo of her inside a marquee standing alongside a lot of sample bits and pieces made for the occasion and it includes that lampshade!  Methinks it will soon have a proper home - along with a couple of cushions.  :loveit:

Lucky you and lovely fabric too...

I have been looking for and failing to find replacement fabric for my bedroom curtains, which I adore.
They were made in '89 when I worked as a contract interior designer (yes really me !!) and they have always hung in South facing windows which means they are now falling to pieces, literally! :(

The fabric was called Saraband from Sandersonand though I do have some extra (from a single bedspread) I do not have enough for even a single 2m drop, which I could then halve and attach to the leading edges of my poor devastated curtains .... I used some of it in Stellarious, the massive star hanging .....

(Its the autumnal coloured paisley fabric, not the black)

and tho' I do look in any good secondhand curtain shops I come across and occasionally online, I have never seen anything remotely like it!  :'(

Sometimes it's difficult to see what the actual colour is online, but would it be this?

Imi, if you can't get hold of some more of the original fabric what about adding a band of plain fabric in one of the colours along the leading edge?  and maybe make matching tiebacks from the plain?

So I've sent for a sample which I hope will arrive in today's post.

The sample did arrive today, and I like the colours.  From the sample alone, which is A5 size, it would be difficult to tell what the pattern is like because it's big and bold, but I've decided that's what I'm going with.

Sorry, Imi. That appears to be a site that does valuations. I tracked down the page I found but it refers to a sale that took place in August 2013 of Sanderson Saraband fabric on eBay UK. :( However, that's fairly recent in the scheme of things so it might still be possible to find it. I raked through both US and UK eBay and couldn't find it but maybe its possible to call Sandersons directly and see what they say.

Of no help to you whatsoever, IMI, but my 3 piece suite was reupholstered in 38 yards of that fabric around 1990/1 time. Wish I'd saved some for you now, lol. It's long gone now.

Gorgeous fabric isnt it???

I was very poor in those days and could barely afford a width drop for each curtain and a very cheap lining ....
the sun shines through the fabric when the curtains are closed making the paisley glow and I fell so in love with it ....
so on they go, gently shedding pieces of themselves over the years.
