Title: Fleece for oven mitt or tea cosy
Post by: Emerion on October 22, 2021, 12:59:33 PM
Can anyone recommend a good thermal fleece for homemade oven mitts or a tea cosy? I wanted to use some old towelling, but have decided that a double layer of that would be too bulky in oven mitts. So then I wanted to buy some cotton fleece, but no one seems to sell it. I would rather not buy polyester, but it’s looking like that’s the only option.

@Emerion I am not sure what this Compressed fleece (https://jaycotts.co.uk/products/vilene-thermolam-compressed-flece) is made from but it looks suitable for your needs  :)

EDIT: it is polyester

Insul-bright (https://blog.plushaddict.co.uk/2021/05/26/what-is-insul-bright/) for anything hot.  Available from many sources.

I made the oven glove with Insulbrite too ...

I dont particularly like the 'crackle' you get with it but at least the 'crackle' tells you its heat proof !

Thanks everyone. I think that has confirmed what I thought.

I used this to make an oven glove but find it very stiff and not easy to get hold of things so rarely use that oven glove. I have several old ones that I think I'll pull apart and use the the padding which is softer and see how that works when I feel like doing it?.............
