My Juki machine isn’t fussed with Moon thread. It will sew it but it seems happier with smoother thread like Gütermanns
so I was looking online for some suppliers and came across barnyarns in the U.K.
They sell a brand called Aurifil in larger spools. I’ve seen this brand mentioned elsewhere.
Can anyone advise if this a suitable all purpose type thread for general sewing or is it meant for more specialist sewing machines like embroidery machines?
I’m trying to find a brand of all purpose type Thread that my Juki will love. My Brother machine is a pure floosie and will play with anything very happily but the Juki seems a lot fussier.
Thank you lovelies.

Aurifil is a very respected brand of thread.

Aurifil cotton 50 weight - brilliant stuff for quilt piecing so bound to be good for other stuff too. :D

I used Aurifil thread to free motion quilt my last quilt. I had no breakage or shredding which I had experienced with other brands.

I mostly use Aurifil I have two boxes of 12 colours. I love it, it is smooth and strong and 100% cotton, mostly I have 50wt but do have some 40wt. :vintage:

I have not used Aurifil but I can recommend Mettler thread.

Aurifil Mako is a good brand, but it's cotton, so good for P&Q and cotton fabrics, but not for synthetics.
Gueterman Sew All is the favourite all purpose thread for a lot of people, as is readily available in UK, I don't know about ROI.
Another good brand is Superior Threads. Their regular cotton is Masterpiece which is good for cotton fabrics, and King Tut (size 30 so a bit thicker) for quilting Also they do three types of poly thread; Sew Complete (https://www.superiorthreads.com/thread/sew-complete) and So Fine (https://www.superiorthreads.com/thread/so-fine-50) which comes on spools and cones and Omni (https://www.superiorthreads.com/thread/omni) which comes on large cones, but it's a bit thicker, probably compares to Coats Moon. Alas Barnyarns don't seem to stock those, only the embroidery threads.
Cotton Patch (https://www.cottonpatch.co.uk/acatalog/Sewing-Thread.html) have a good range of threads. I haven't tried it myself but their Primo Soft thread might be what you are looking for.
For general purpose sewing with an 80 or 90 machine needle you want a spun polyester thread (not a continuous filament)
in size 50. For heavier fabrics and 90 or 100 needle use a size 40 thread and for very fine fabrics and a 70 needle use a size 60 thread.
