This is now layered up and ready to quilt.  I have hung it over the bannister so that I can see it and am trying to decide how to quilt it.

My current thoughts are to stitch in the ditch on the colours with a light blue green and to do concentric circles on the white with either the same thread or white until I hit the edge of the white areas.

In the wardrobe / Dolman Top
« on: July 03, 2021, 19:23:54 PM »
I have a dolman top in a loose cotton weave that I bought this year.  It would be easy to copy as there are no darts so I could just trace round it.  The front was cut on the fold but there is a seam centre back.  I'm wondering if the CB seam is to stabilise the shape with this loose weave fabric.

What do you think?

I’m about to make an appliqué panel for a cushion and the modern quilt by Helen Howes.  I’m using red spectrum batiks on a white background.  Would you wash them first?

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Template plastic
« on: October 25, 2019, 13:45:01 PM »
Does anyone know how to make template plastic lay flat when it’s been on a roll?

I have managed to cut the templates out but they are not laying flat so it will be difficult to cut the fabric out.  I have tried leaving in the airing cupboard next to a hot pipe and in between two heavy Denny dishes both filled with boiling/hot tap water and leaving for a while followed by wrapping flat in an old tea towel with eight large tins on top.  Currently they are under a steel pan rest which they are lifting but not enough to roll into their original state.

Any ideas?

My quilt group have a display area in the entrance of the arts centre where we meet and have just put up our latest quilt collaboration of a bookshelf quilt.  Hope you like it.

Current Projects / Latest quilt top
« on: February 19, 2019, 20:08:15 PM »
Here is the quilt top that I’ve been working on for the last couple of days.  Used a pack of fat quarters plus a bit more bought at FOQ.  Quite happy with it.  Now to layer and quilt using stencils but I have a couple of other things to finish first.

This has been my hand sewing over the Christmas holidays and will be a panel on a cushion.  I have enjoyed the way it builds and may do a larger quilt as I like the effects that can be made by using fabrics in a different order.

Embroidery and Embellishment / Something new to me
« on: May 05, 2018, 21:04:12 PM »
I tried some raw edge applique with a design from Raggedy Ruff Designs of bats at night.  I enjoyed doing it and made the finished piece into a cushion cover for DS.  DD1 was to deliver it when she visited Toronto but was unwell so it was posted.  He's very pleased with it.  I just need a butterfly one now for his partner.

I’m not quite sure where to post this so am putting it here.

I made this cushion cover for DS who as you may remember is a “batman”.  The picture is raw edge appliqué with free machine embroidery from Raggedy Ruff Designs.  I am pleased with it although there are things I would do differently doing it again.

Vintage Machines / Servicing a Bernina 930
« on: January 07, 2018, 14:21:06 PM »
Is it Leila May who has serviced a Bernina 930?  If so can she give me some tips as I currently have my old one back and DD2 says it is smoking.  I have messaged her in Thailand to ask where from.

Thanks

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Thomas' quilt

As you can see Thomas is not really interested in the educational opportunities of his quilt at present.

I have made a disappearing nine patch quilt and now need to do the borders.  Originally I was only going to cornerstone the outer wider border but then I tried one in the inner narrower border.  Sometimes I look at the pictures and think I will do both with cornerstones and at other times I think just the outer border.  What do you think?

I went to this yesterday and spent a while having a good look at the exhibits.  The Embroiderer's Guild moved their collection to Aylesbury Museum last year.  The content of the exhibition was wide ranging with pieces from Japan, India, Persia, America and UK.  There were also some quilted pieces and I couldn't see any embroidery on one.

Several pieces were machine embroidered and the pictures below are of a machine embroidered piece made in 1938.

Embroidery and Embellishment / Embroidery programmes
« on: July 06, 2017, 10:25:22 AM »
I have owned my Bernina 570QE for nearly a year now and need to get to grips with the embroidery unit (and do Bernina's course).  Does anyone know of a software programme that works on a Mac and can save in the Bernina format?

At the Blenheim Flower Show today there was a tent with a flower arranging competition.  One of the themes was dance and this is flamenco.
