Fun with Fabric / Re: stretch silk
« on: June 06, 2023, 18:43:33 PM »
Did you want a satin type silk, or would a silk jersey fit the bill as a bit of luxury? I've never worked with any so no idea if it would come in a suitable weight.

@Sara-S  inspired by the classic 'I want a hippopotamus for Christmas'?

So long as it is easy to move up or aside that looks good, of course everyone's bodies change differently. I only gained 1 cup size (plus a couple of inches around the ribs) but probably 3 dress sizes at waist and hips by that stage after birth, I was still wearing maternity jeans for a couple of months so not sure exactly!
Also make sure whatever you make can accommodate a decent nursing bra, they don't tend to be dainty even in small cup sizes!

Would a stretchy vest/camisole with the woven as a loose overlay work for the look you want? That way the outer can be lifted and vest lowered for fairly discreet feeding.
A vest with a t-shirt over is my favoured combination (apart from in the recent warm weather) as it allows my tummy to stay covered while I am self conscious about it.
Also you may need to bear in mind a possible c section wound, but sounds like the skirt should accommodate this.

In the wardrobe / Re: Advice from the experts
« on: April 19, 2021, 10:22:08 AM »
When I got married (8 years ago) there was a website called light in the box which had a decent reputation. I didn't use it myself and it was a while back so no idea if they are actually ok or not. I did look and there seemed to be a huge selection so might well be able to coordinate different styles.

The Haberdashery / Re: Looking for a ruler

If you tape two standard pencils together they usually draw about 3/8 apart. Easier for curves than a rule too.

Are you still needing any more beads? I have some seed pearls in cream and a light turquoise and some stone flattened round beads in deep turquoise/green mottled colours.
I also have various drilled gemstone chips, but think they are probably too small/irregular for what you want but happy to send a selection if they would suit.

Technical Help / Re: Child sizing help please

My little boy (aged 3 but quite a chunk) measures between 21 and 22 inches chest and a new sweatshirt (age 3-4 and decent growing room) is 26 inches so that ease sound about right to me. Better too big than too small I reckon.

A bit of a 'do' / Re: Breastfeeding bride - which cups for her dress?
« on: August 06, 2018, 17:20:31 PM »
I'm currently breastfeeding and have two non padded non wired bras and one that is padded and wired. Personally I don't find much difference in comfort (but am small busted) so prefer the moulded cup for shape, it also hides any unevenness in fullness after a feed.
Another thing to consider is how easy it is for her to undo and redo or move aside the top of her dress to feed, maybe an extra bit of ribbon similar to on a nursing bra to stop the straps disappearing at an awkward angle.

A Good Yarn / Re: Caterpillar Crochet
« on: July 08, 2017, 18:15:14 PM »
My Mum was asking if we wanted anything crocheted for the baby, we didn't really want pastel cardigans etc but a caterpillar outfit would be very cute.
I'd already requested a pumpkin hat (due in October).

Thanks, but the shipping on all the etsy ones is about £12.

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Wanted: simplicity 1360
« on: May 26, 2017, 10:50:50 AM »
Has anyone got this pattern (or can suggest an alternative). I can find it for about £11 online which seems a bit steep.
I particularly like the twist front detail and overall it looks like it might be wearable post-maternity too.

Patterns Discussion / Re: Storing Patterns
« on: April 18, 2017, 09:40:14 AM »
I trace patterns, so fold the original back into the pack and store along with tracings in 30cm resealable freezer bags. I can see the pattern envelope easily and write on the outer bag the date and fabrics i have used for easy recall. This is also handy for self drafted patterns where obviously there is no picture!
