Your Favourite Suppliers / Fabric shop in Oxford, closed

I was looking forward to popping into Darn It and Stitch in Oxford, today. But apparently it closed in May.  :'(
Another one bites the dust.

Kept me busy. Cut him out yesterday. Sewed him up today. Brushed cotton in the main. Not sure he'd stand rigorous handling, think I've overstuffed him a tad.

Current Projects / Whole cloth/fleece/wadded blanket
« on: August 24, 2017, 21:12:14 PM »
This is what I made over yesterday and today. I love both these fabrics but had had them in the cupboard for a long time without finding a project for them.

I sewed around the outline of all the birds and some of the flowers.
Bound with fabrics from stash that were 'close enough'. Size 42" X 36".

Not sure what I'll do with it, might put it away for the next baby. All the young teachers at school seem to be taking it in turns to have babies, I'm sure it won't be long til the next one.

Your Favourite Suppliers / Stitch45 in Malvern, Worcestershire
« on: August 03, 2017, 12:31:26 PM »
This is my most local quilting supplies shop, and the one I use the most. It has recently been sold so has new owners.
It must be very nerve wracking to be starting/taking over a business these days, with online competition being very sharp.
Good luck to the new owners, and I hope lots of sewists remember to use their local shops.

Fun with Fabric / Quilting Cotton to Make a Dress?
« on: July 30, 2017, 19:39:12 PM »
Is this acceptable or is it doomed to disaster?
I have three metres of this 100% cotton fabric by Lotta Jansdotter.
I think it would make a nice summer weight dress, maybe even the Vogue 1410 pattern I have.
What do you think?

Access All Accessories / Mended a handbag
« on: July 26, 2017, 13:23:45 PM »
My daughter bought me a bag from Joe Browns last Xmas. The zip broke about the second time of using it. I put it away and forgot about it.
I noticed it today and thought I'd do something about it. I took out the old zip, put in a new. Was feeling rather pleased with my clever little self til I realised I hadn't reattached the strap. So I've bodged the strap back on. Ah well. Another reminder to think things through and not just jump in all hung Ho.

Finished this by appliquéing the name.

Now it's finished I think the second name disappears into the background.
I think I'll still give it though, most likely.

Pink and white - bit stereotyped - but when it's for someone you don't know well I think play safe.

Which needle should I use on my machine for sewing leather look material.
I have a leather needle, but wonder if it's still useful for leather look?

I 'logged' one of DFs posts by mistake (fat fingers on my iPad). Tried to unclog it, but think it might have logged again. Sorry. Didn't mean it.

It's an ikea throw backing, cut out shapes held in place by cover shiny material and decorative stitching.

I should have sewn the shapes down individually. Maybe I'll do that next time I'm in the mood to be creative.

I just liked a post three times and the counter went up accordingly. I had assumed it was a one off thing.
Not that it's a problem, just sharing the knowledge.

Unfirtunately, My hallway curtains are now 6" short after a 20 minute cool wash.   :(

Fortunately, there is a doubled 6 1/2 " hem on them.

Unfortunately, lazy me had machine sewed the hem.

Fortunately, it's Sunday afternoon and I have time free ( if I ignore the Internetz) to unpick.
